Andrew varley Hi there, thanks for your comment. Yes, it is a very sturdy camera isn’t it 😀. After I used standard batteries, I switched to rechargeable. Making the choice to upgrade is always an exciting time tinged with sadness. @@steveneugene339 Yes, it is a nice camera to hold, especially if you have big hands. I gave my one to my father after he found it much easier to handle compared to smaller form cameras. Buy some rechargeable batteries for this camera. It eats through batteries quite quickly, so have rechargeable will help a lot. Regarding the memory card, it seems to prefer older memory cards, (I had the odd issue with card reading issues) but a standard SD card is also fine. Buy a few cheap ones from eBay or flea markets and see which one works the best.

@@ReelFilm2016 Yes and I have it because I realize it is capable of doing almost everything I'm interested in having a camera do these days. I'm viewing Powershot videos because I'm trying once again to understand how to employ the inherent capabilities. I'm an old guy with a bunch of mechanical Canon gear i bought and used enthusiastically back in the '70s. My problem is mostly not understanding the digital interface and terminology that seems born into younger people.

If you have the instruction manual, start from there in automatic shooting mode and take your time. (If you don’t have the manual like me, you can download it online. Just type in the make and model and type instructions) I am still a novice myself, so I am learning everyday. Mark Koons You are welcome, we all need some encouragement from time to time. Ahh okay, that part of the States. (I was in New York / Utah last October). I have seen this problem so many times. The older generation are often left behind due to technology changing so quickly. With the right support and guidance, I am certain you would be fine, but I recognise that gaining that knowledge and then having the confidence to apply it is often the problem. Maybe have a look online for local courses. We have them here in the UK. Or see if there is a small photography community in your area. There always tends to be. I have always found most photographers to be gentle creatures.

Alexis Marie Thanks for watching and commenting. I did have an issue with my Canon 1000 camera (video is on the channel) in regards to the battery. If I tried to shoot in very bright environments, the light meter would fail and the camera would shut down and the battery would indicate empty. The thing was, the battery was brand new and not empty. When I took some pictures in normal lighting conditions, the camera was fine. I have asked a few people about it and they think it was to do with the cameras metering and then way the camera draws power from the battery. If the fault continues on your camera, you may need to seek advice or get a replacement. Always check online forums for help and support.
