Your side by side comparison of the bird according to my eye shows the panasonic to be sharper. Surprised that you disagree.

Both cameras shoot RAW. I think you should do some direct 1:1 comparisons with both cameras on a tripod, shooting with the same settings, at the same objects. Then just post the pictures. But if you're handholding anything and not shooting the same object at the same time, there's no way to really compare image quality. You

You are right if you would like to go and pick the image apart pixel by pixel. The photos in the video are only for demonstration purposes. I have formed my opinion based on over a week of using each camera. I used both of them in different situations and lighting conditions. So what I'm presenting in this video is my overall conclusion after combined 20 days of usage and taking hundreds of photos.

I am much more for picture image quality than video but I think the SX70 video looked better than the FZ80, it looked too washed out and less contrast. But I'm an FZ love as I have the FZ30 and FZ100.

in the second photo, do you have them labeled correctly? The 1 on the right looks sharper to me, though you say the 1 on the left looks sharper. Thanks.
@TommysOutdoors
@TommysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question - well spotted. They are labelled correctly. The Canon photo was taken late in the evening around the sunset while the one taken with Lumix was in a late morning. So the lighting conditions were better for Lumix. Still the Canon photo is less noisy than the one from Lumix. Those nuances of photos will never come across fully in KZbin vid as a photograph deteriorates while being put into video and then KZbin's compression does the rest of the damage. So I guess you'll have to take my word for it. 🙂

Panasonic is $300 vs canon $550 these 2 cameras are in 2 different price category.

Yeah, I mentioned that at the beginning of the video. However, I feel like they really shouldn't be. The difference in price doesn't reflect real-life performance, at least in my opinion.

Canon images are known to be better out the gate than the others pre-processing. This is not debatable.

while i agree mostly what you say, i still went with the fz82. my friend has a sx70 . its a nice camera, but i feel the fz82 isnt that far off with quality tbh, and the cannon pictures are more saturated than the fz, so needs more post editing. i never use max photo lense length, so dont really lose picture quality. plus, im just a learner/ part time hobbyist so it would be a waste sspending so much buying the canon

My little point & shoot just died. I am by no means a professional photographer. That’s my brother. His cameras are house payments. I am looking into buying one that is point & shoot but will let me learn the more advanced features. Nothing too crazy hard. Need nice zoom plus indoor family photos. Want fast shutter speed to capture people & things in motion. From the features & zoom I think I’ve narrowed it down to these 2. Which is the easiest to load pics to a pc laptop? Don’t want to have to fight with another computer/devise giving me fits. No special program to buy or load. Computer is Windows 8.1. I know, I know but it still works & getting a camera is more important right now. Thanks!

I'm not sure buddy but Lumix will likely use their DFD autofocus (like in their other cameras) which is way slower from Canon's equivalent. Just not that's what's happening in the mirrorless world so I'm not sure if that's still true for those compact cameras.

I have to agree. I loved the FZ70 and "moved up" to the FZ80. Initially, I was loving it. It could really zoom in and capture some photos and videos of birds, etc. But I found the pictures to be grainy on the computer. It was also tricky to focus. I found a used Sony HX400V and started using it and was much happier with photos. Now, on paper, the FZ80 is the better camera to the HX400V. But in actual use and quality of images, I recommend the Sony. One thing the FZ80 has that the others don't, Is the 20mm wide angle for landscape shots. You don't miss it if you haven't experienced it, but it is a nice feature.

Think I will buy a cheap 4 wit a boom speaker for my blogs (120-150) and buy a Olympus Evolt E520 10MP Digital SLR Camera with Image Stabilization w/ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens which I can pick up used for 150-175, that way I can get the best of both worlds. A new Olympus EvoltE520 is still 699, so getting one where all the cords are still in their plastic packs means someone probably rarely used the camera. They look pristine via an Amazon rep who has a 97 percent positive rating. I wanted so bad to buy the FZ80, but I just think, from what I hear, its overcomplicated in some ways. Thanks for the video.

I have 2 previous head injuries so comprehending is not my strong point. If I set the settings in menu to manual focus, then all I have to do is use the rotating ring on the top of the camera to adjust the focus, am I correct? So what you are saying, is EVERY TIME I want to take a photo in the MANUAL Focus mode, I have to use the rotating dial? If I was taking a picture of an eagle jumping off a limb, I wouldn't have time to use the rotating dial.

I am now looking at both these camera's and lucky for me the price difference that I am looking at is only $120AU. I hope to see both in person today, I am leaning towards the Canon mostly because I already have a Canon DSL kit and this would be an upgrade for my wife who has the SX110 that she loved for so long, so plenty of bias for me to try to overcome in making this decision.

Image quality with the Panasonic is appalling, photos are noisy even at lowest ISO, noise reduction just smooths out fine detail, even at its lowest setting smooths the images so that detail is lost. The lens is very soft and in camera sharpening just makes matters worse, leading to unsightly artefacts. The viewfinder is very poor and the lack of an eye sensor makes handling a pain. Oh, and the markings on the buttons rubs off over time. It's so bad it's not worth buying at any price. I wish I hadn't. OK, it's got a touchscreen, which the Canon hasn't, but the camera is a lemon. The FZ72 was better, the FZ300 far better and the Canon SX70 better again. Like chalk and cheese.
