I just put one back in after using it two years ago and now it is filling back up again. ? not sure I get that but will have to do a little more investigation.

I wanted to say thank you, ur vid is 3 yrs. old so idk if u will see this, but I hope so. This helped me immensely as I just received this on my brand new printer. I have maybe printed a total of 10-15 sheets of paper. I was shocked/frustrated it wouldn’t allow me to use it. I printed once in color, and everything else I have printed are black and white or really light grayscale images. It notified me yesterday that I two inks are low, and today was the notification of the error for the code in this video. What is a maintenance cartridge do or for anyway? This is my first time ever owning a fancy super expensive printer, so I have no clue. Why is it filled with ink and from where? Is there anything else you can suggest that I should order and have on hand because the printer will stop working completely without replacing it? I have ordered two of the maintenance cartridges so I can immediately replace the new one, and have one to spare. And I’ll order another couple when the last one is replaced. I had purchased a complete set of inks, when I purchased my computer (because they are SO expensive) and it seems you quickly go through ink. I didn’t realize how little of images printed you get for the ink. 😟 I really appreciate any and all my questions you can answer. And am grateful you stayed and showed the code, explained, and clearly showed the replacement and open and replacing super clear and precise visually and orally for me to fully be able to change this on my own and order the correct one! 🙏🏻 your video is a life saver! I have to wait 4 days for mine to arrive, but I will definitely follow instructions. Oh!! I was also instructed by the customer service canon person, that since I don’t print often regularly, then it is best to turn the printer off completely right after I use it, some I don’t print a lot often. I hope that is a true statement... and that’s isn’t what affected how quickly that cartridge or my inks needed to be changed.

The maintenance cartridge is use to catch over spray and to catch ink that is used to clear the heads. When you start it up you will hear it prime the head and this catches that ink. You do not need to stop printing when it says ink is low. This is only a warning. It will stop completely when the ink is empty. Then you will have to replace it. The first ink cartridges are just to gets you up and running so the new ones you get will last longer. I never heard of having to turn the unit off immediately after use. Not sure what that does?

So nice of you to be able to still respond after all this time from this video. 🙏🏻☺️ They just said to turn it off after I finished printing, that it would be best, because I don’t print everyday... so I was wondering if that was filling the maintenance cartridge more faster. And it seems it does. But, I did hear it rotate the inks even when I left it on after so much time would pass on its own. So idk which is better to do for the machine. Leave it on even though there may be a week or two I don’t print at all? Or shut it off when I know it will probably be days between printing?

Thanks Rusty! This was great! I'm dumbfounded as to why I even need to change this. I'm at the end of my first run of ink cartridges (the originals). I think I only got about 25 prints out of the pro 1000 before the printer showed low ink and the cartridge was full. Yikes! All my ink went into the maintenance cartridge!? Expensive! Is it normal for the maintenance cartridge to fill up faster than the ink cartridges last? Again, thanks for an awesome tutorial.

Yes first one seems to go fast. Also if you are printing borderless. Not good to do that. If you do not print all the time it will run extra cycles when you start up and that will fill also.

Yes the great thing is you can change in the middle of a print if need be. I have not had that happen though as it always seems to wait till the end of a print to "stop" dead in its tracks.

Informative and so helpful - thank you for posting Rusty - from the video you obviously continue printing with low ink warnings - I understand there is a fair amount of residual ink in a cart that nevertheless indicates low... Is there a work around to continue printing without switching the printer off??

Glad it was helpful! When the ink says low you can still keep printing. When it stops its because the ink in the cart is EMPTY. There is still ink n transit to the head. You do not want to keep printing so do not even attempt a workaround. You will fry the head.

Hello, I plan to move in about 5-6 months. When I do a transport printer, will it empty all the ink inside the cartridges? Then I will have to rebuy all the cartridges again?? That seems like a giant waste of money if some if not all the inks are full no?

Its going to run you through and empty ink out of the head and system. It may ask for new cats and sill for sure ask for the extra MX cart. But with that said it will last for a while if you take a look at this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZqynJKolNykf5o

Here is a link to a thread on the canon site. There have been several different problems with this that I have seen around the internet. I did talk to somebody that I suggested taking the carts out on either side and see if they could see enough to unclip the cart manually. They said they did it but that is all I heard.
