Thank you!! Eager to check out my settings after a shoot today left me quite worried with that overheating warning on virtually the entire shoot....
@holl33083 жыл бұрын
I just tested this and it worked! I had the three custom video functions linked to the "overheat" settings 4K120, 4K60 and 4KHQ. I recorded in 8K until the overheat warning started blinking. I then switched to "stills" mode and the over heat light was still blinking. I then disabled my mapping to the three custom video functions and the blinking overheat light went out. THANK YOU for this information.

I'm mainly a stills shooter but I also have my C3 (video mode) set for 60fps in case I want to grab a cool slo-mo shot while shooting stills. Didn't realize this about overheating. I plan to get the R3 as soon as it comes out and I hope it solves lots of the 'issues' of the EOS R5. Even when shooting still images without any video at all I've had the *temperature warning icon* show up on both of my EOS R5 bodies. The only way around it is to turn off the bodies when not actively shooting. I've had it happen after only 30 minutes of shooting indoors using the EVF and tethered via USB.

Same. I keep it as a option for b-roll but I’ve been dealing with it. Primarily a stills shooter but I capture b-roll when I can. I just turn off as well when I know I’m on standby for a bit.

Thanks, Ricky..-... Like you, I encounter this problem a few days ago, and your video is very helpful... Yes, my "REC" button was "Linked" to Custom C3, and when I check the setting of that in the video mode, it was set to 8K... so I set the link to a normal video... My thought?? I did NOT have this problem when I first for the camera, and it seems that it "Might" have crept in between firmware ver 1.0 and ver 1.3.1 which is what I have now.... Just a thought, cause I don't know for sure without going back and reloading ver 1.0 of the firmware ... Your thoughts??

Kinda had a similar situation during a video shoot. No overheat warning, but when recording video in stills mode all my footage was shot in C-log and it took a little research to figure out why. Same deal. I have custom 3 set to shoot in C-log. On another note, why so many dislikes on this video?!! I don't get it.

I think a lot of the dislikes is from still photographers only they never configured a video C3 to an overheat mode so they don’t believe it can happen, as we have experienced yes it can. I just hope this vid goes out so people know and don’t think this camera is any good. It has quirks like all cameras. it’s damned good as a hybrid camera.

Chris, download firmware update. I switched my C3 video back to 4k120 with no issues in a full day wedding and I don’t turn my cameras off at all. This should fix your overheat warning. But if you are in extremely hot hot weather that I’m not sure. I shot a full day wedding in 70s.

In fact once I created the C3 mode, when switching to stills the timer next to the battery life indicator displays 10:00. Once I turn off the C3 heat video mode, the time changes to 29:59. Great video thanks. I just ran into overheating 10 mins into a photo shoot yesterday (it was about 95 degrees out) started getting the blinking countdown and then had to power down to for 20 mins. I did not set my c3 button (every time I tried I got an "Camera busy" message?) but I did switch my M-F button to swap between 4k 60 IPB mode and photo mode..could this be it? If so how can I fix?
@LucasPassmore3 жыл бұрын
Just FYI...i've been experiencing the over-heat icon persistently while on stills. I never switch to video mid-shoot. I've never used video once, ever. And i've never had custom buttons assigned and more so, the video settings have always been on HD (although again i've never once used video). I am never in AF continuous mode. I am not bursting a lot (i'm not a sports or bird photog), and my raws are set to cRAW 99.9% of the time. The camera has never shut down, even during 8+ hours of Ecom. But the blinking becomes intolerable.

I guess depending on where you live and location where you shoot it could be on all the time. I’m at a hit or miss living in north/east NJ. I’ll get it sometimes, other times not so much. Just something I’m dealing with for now. Make the noise to get canon to fix it.

Hi Ricky, thanks for the video! So if one maps the small record button to a non over heating video mode then there will be no over heating when shooting stills, correct? I'm thinking about updating from the R. Saw your other R5 review - great camera in many ways. But this would have freaked me out as well, piuh ; )
@RickyCheung3 жыл бұрын
Yes from my research and all the info gathering if you map the record btn to say 4k24 that warning should not even come up in stills. I changed mine and I have not hit the warning yet. I basically reversed my setup to C3-4k24 C2-4k60 C1-4K120. Thanks for watching and the support. It’s a really amazing camera for a hybrid shooter. I hope they fixes these little things with firmware.

@@RickyCheung Thanks for your answer! Ok, good to hear that the work around makes the camera not over heat in the stills mode. Good tips. I shall also change it to the reverse so I get used to it when getting the R5 and keeping one R. Yeah, they have some work to do on the firmware.

You sound like a hybrid like myself. I want to shoot stills and just hit the rec btn but I want 4k120. Mentioned in the vid you can map m-FN to C3 and supposedly it won’t get a warning but I have m-FN map to something else. Basically we lost a btn if we do this. Good luck.

Do you think it will overheat at 4K 60p even with IPB compression with the new 1.3 firmware?
@darlingtonjonesimagery92473 жыл бұрын
Okay so I watched the entire video. I actually had previously mapped the m.Fn button in the same exact way that you suggested, 4k 24, 60, 120p However, my record button was left as record. So what are you saying? I need to switch to m.Fn to record and the record to C1,C2,C3? Will that fix the overheating issue in stills only mode?
@RickyCheung3 жыл бұрын
So the C3 for video is linked to the record btn. Any video mode that overheats linked to that C3 in video even if you are shooting stills will initiate the ⛔️. I read a work around if you need is to link C3 to m-fn for a hot video mode and the warning should not turn on. I really hope this helps and canon can fix this.
