Canon R5 Mark II: Will Overheating Issues be Worse Than Original R5?

The only "overheating" I have see is when the user set the camera down on hot concrete in Phoenix where the heat from the concrete was going up through the vents... No fan grip was used either.

@thelensmanphotography I saw the dance video. But I'm really going by Canon's description of overheating on the r5 mark 2 vs my experience with the mark 1.

@@magnus547 So how do you know if it will overheat? And the r5 does not overheat even in south Florida heat recording for hour.

@@contentm3893 Canon has put out that the R5 Mark II will overheat. Pause my video at 6:17 . That's directly from Canon, not me. I'll certainly test after I get the camera. The R5 doesn't overheat on me either in most situations as well, except 4K 120fps. There was one long recording event where I got the warning after recording over an hour in 8K, but it never shut off on me. It got better after I pulled the screen away from the camera.

I have an R5 Mark II mounted overhead recording in 4K fine 30fps and it overheats and shuts off in under 15 minutes, usually about 12 minutes. This is at 70 degrees F ambient. Completely unacceptable. My R5C on the other hand, records forever at 8K 60 (if I want it to) even in the middle of the Texas summer, outdoors. Regretting buying the Mark 2 instead of another R5C or even a C80.

I have not experienced your scenario at all with my R5 Mark II. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through that. Are you recording handheld when you do that? But even that is very strange. I'm assuming you're recording in 4K Fine when this happens, but at 70 degrees? That's pretty cool. There may be something wrong with your unit, because at 80 degrees F, I still have not had that happen. Have you tried calling Canon support?

R5 II's new BSI stacked sensor can generate more heat. That is because the increased circuitry and processing capabilities are integrated into the stacked layers.

@@pablomarin1746they have a fan grip, more than likely just more corporate greed. They fixed r6 mk 2 over heat and the r5 overheat with an update guess they figured "hey we can charge 500 for this fan grip"

Be interesting to see how the r5 II compares to the r5c? Considering the r5c is like $1000 cheaper than the r5 II

Nikon dslr used to be Canon dslr competitor , they were the top two camera makers when canon released a new version, nikon would do one. Until Sony joined the gangbang

Jump to 6:17 , where I put a shot of Canon's own video where it says that WITH a fan, 8K 30 will over heat at 75min with low fan speed setting. Imagine with no fan? It's not a lie, regarding the R5 Mark II. The original R5 hasn't overheat since firmware 1.6 firmware for me, but that totally depends on ambient temperature. But I also mentioned that in my video. Maybe I misunderstood you. What are you trying to say, because I stayed factual.

@mostfrequencies4981 I love to do that stuff too. I will. They don't get as many views, but I will continue to do that. And i just filmed a short film and a music video a few weeks back. Got loads to share on that. Thank you for being interested!
