The relevance of this review has been narrowly tailored to describe somebody who 1) has multiple cameras, 2) doesn't mind spending additional time in post trying to match footage, & 3) has specified needs that don't match the abilities of the Z6iii. There's nothing wrong with that as long as the larger audience doesn't forget that the parameters of the reviewer are probably quite different than their own. The question I'm wondering about, is why do you need so many cameras?

Good points. Perspective definitely matters. Thinking about your question basically leads me to answer this way, but the answer may change in the future: None of my cameras really are great at everything I may need, thought he Canon R5 comes close. Each camera is good at certain things. For example - R5 is great for detailed high quality footage for some shoots, though I'm limited with it's 30 minute time limit. Blackmagic cameras are great for their impeccable image quality, though they require a focus puller. My Lumix GH5 is great for a compact 4k beast and controls for video in a small body, but it's low light and auto-focus is terrible. My Samsung cameras produce great footage at very small file sizes, but their bit depth of 8 bit 4:20 doesn't really let you adjust colors in post very much, and it's rolling shutter is bad. I can go on and on, but different shoots prioritize different cameras. But that's all up to the person. You can grab any camera and make something wonderful in any situation, you just gotta work around it.

It's simpler to get the Pro. It's all the benefits, battery life, in a smaller lighter package and that's the point. This makes no sense.

Simply put, it's the best hybrid camera for the price and even above $3000. You see, real video production stick to one system so that can retain the color science, quality, and look. They don't use a Canon R5, Samsung NX1, and BlackMagic camera to shoot one video. The colors, dynamic range, logs, low light don't match. What a post nightmare. Most will have two Z6 III or a Z8/Z9 with Z6 III or an A7S III with an FX3 or FX30 or FX9. It absolutely streamlines post work because you are using the same system that have identical color science, logs, and glass which gets you professional results. Gerald Undone made it crystal clear about the dynamic range. It was RAW footage that had no NR applied. Apparently, you are in video production, so you should know RAW video is always noisier. Did you notice how DR jumped when he applied NR? It managed 12.5 stops, close to the A7S III's 12.8 stops. So in the end, you based your decision on camera you don't have, never tried or tested and told us that your 100 year old Samsung NX1 with iPhone like colors or R5 or Blackmagic will suffice. So, carrying 3 different systems, lenses, and accessories... all to do the job 1 camera (Z6 III) does lol

I have an R5C, R6ii, Ninja V+ Resolve / Final Cut. For what it’s worth I’ve get the best DR using ProResRaw on the NinjaV+ with the R5c and the R6ii Into FCP. Next best was Canon Cinema RAW LT or ST into the CFExpress and developed as CLOG3 (and sometimes CLOG2). I do find the ProResRaw to be cleaner chroma noise than the internal cRAW and I wish Resolve could work with it as Cinema DNG is a painful workflow. I’m giving up and getting a Raptor X or a C400 though.

I'm interested by this camera. First because I use Panasonic cameras and lenses a lot, and I don't like how they changed their video engine, nor the fact that they still use the same sensor for their full frame cameras since 2019 and also because they stopped to release Pro lenses since 2020, they seems less and less serious. The Z6III with Proresraw will allow to get excellent rolling shutter, perfect fine details (nothing altered like on the S5II) comparable with blackmagic raw cameras but with good AF and acceptable IBIS. My big question is how good the colors are ? Since the Samsung NX1 and GH6, I struggle to get the colors I want, every other cameras I own like the S5II or G9II are disappointing in this regard.

Colors are difficult to get exactly right to your liking. I purchased a Lumix GH5 years ago, and even though I could get passed the autofocus issue, I couldn't stand the colors off of that camera.

Having owned the Z6 II, Z8, Z9 and Z6 III, the colors straight out of camera are phenomenal and arguable the best color science between Canon, Fuji, or Sony. NLOG isn't great, so I tend to shoot in Nikon's Flat profile and it gives plenty of latitude in post, but you have flexibility in post. But again, Nikon's Flat profile gets high praise by many. Next, the glass from Nikon is the absolute best quality for the money. Take Nikon's Z 1.8 S primes. You are getting top notch quality, like Sony GM optical quality for a few hundred. If you look at Canon or Sony's cheap 1.8, its absolute garbage. Both Sony and Canon have a $200 50mm or a $1500 50mm. You are getting the $1500 quality for $400-500 with Nikon. They're good for video, quiet yet fast. They've got the best telephotos in the industry. Its the best value, quality, reliability and durability for the money. The Z9 proved that. The Z6 III proves this too. Their lens line up proves it.

I won't pick this camera. But if I had no camera, then it would be a potential buy. It covers most of my needs, and it is cheap and light. But I hope the R6 MKIII will beat it in specs and price. Anyway, I'll get the R5 MKII, and this one should beat my R5C at least in three points: dynamic range, IBIS, and animal AF.

@magnus547 it was the time when the overheating issues with the R5 were real in 8K-RAW 30, and I wanted the 8K-RAW-LT in 60fps what was only in the R5C.. These two things had been the main reason for me. Later, when the overheating issue had been solved, I liked the possibility to slow down feom 60fps in the best resolution, and so I soled the R5. Also, the RAW-LT is nicer to work with than the RAW from the R5. I also like that with external powerbanks you can work for hours, so I never had battery life problems with the R5C. The only 5 things that I miss on the R5C are: 1) 60fps RAW-LT with autofocus by using only the internal battery, 2) IBIS, 3) Animal AF, 4) better internal battery, 5) internal ND-filters internal ND. And I think 4 of the points will come with the R5 MKII ,and it will have an even better DR than the R5C.

I hope the R5 MKII will also have 3x base ISO. Also it could have a DR around 15 steps (with the new BSI sensor). In your case I would go for the R5 MKII. Now if there will also come a R5C MKII with internal ND-FILTERS, then this could be the go for body... I just hope an R5C MKII will also have IBIS. But I guess after you'll buy the R5 MKII, there will come a firmware update to remove the 30-minute lim of the R5 😉, but the R5 MKII will be significantly better than the R5, so I don't think this will be a problem, and you could keep the R5 as a B-body.

Another one is when you change between video modes M - C1M - C2M - C3M ... it freezes on C2M selection, you have to go from opposite direction. Might be based on different settings in my case, but camera freezes or restarts.

Have you ever used the external recording function on the Nx1 and if so can you tell the difference between internal and external? And is it 10Bit externally ?

Hello! Yes, I have used the external recording of the NX1. Unfortunately, the external recording isn't 10 bit. It's 8 Bit 4:2:2, as opposed to the 8 Bit 4:2:0 of the internal recording. One thing I can say is that though you don't really notice a difference when viewing the footage, when it comes to color grading, it does help you push the colors a bit further. Hope that helps.

Also, I don't trust Canon and the lens selection (and price, because Canon has CONTEMPT for its user base - only took them 3 years to release firmware that fixed the appalling problems at release time). But I do at least acknowledge that you have a point (I don't agree with it, but I do see its logic). But! To me, patronizing Canon is like a chicken buying stock in Foxes... Just doesn't make sense...

Canon has a history of disabling key features on their prosumer cameras, ultimately for profit. The team at Magic Lantern proved this by enabling 15+ year old Canon 5Ds shoot 2 and 4K raw.

If it is lighter and captures lighter to the sensor then we can at least say that almost stop of extra light coming in would indeed allow more latitude iso wise. If it does not give an aperture benefit at least one can come down almost a stop in iso. Same thing. It sure does benefit if one films in side a house such as real estate video. Anyways thanks for the clip. I must get one and test it out. Awesome.

No. The R5C is better than them. The R5 is still on their level except for its superior color science. R5C has 15 stops of dynamic range, 24o fps and unlimited video shooting.

I think you're confusing things. Sounds like you're comparing it getting an extra stop of light OVER a full frame. No it wont do that. It can get almost an extra stop of light on the crop sensor when using a full frame lens because its directing more light to the sensor.

That is correct. More light on a smaller sensor, so you DO get more light in a smaller area. So the settings are as if you had a faster lens on that crop sensor. It's been a while since I made this video, but I guess my point now is that a full frame lens can't produce a brighter image than it's designed to bring. These adapters redirect light to make smaller sensors take in more light in a smaller area, but the lenses are still gathering the light they were designed to bring in from the get go.

I was projected to hit 10k subs by July, but just like you I had a video two weeks ago hit around 19k views now and brought in a lot more subs. Law of large numbers. Bro what the fuck, so the Z9 had RAW video and we thought was getting sued by RED but then they bought RED???? So RED will now have Nikon Lens mounts and Canon won’t be allowed RAW video? What the actual fuck
