Update: The 5.9K 60fps Raw without USB-C PD only works with RF lenses, not EF lenses. You can still get the advantage of smaller file sizes in 5.9K raw vs 8K raw, but you will need to use RF lenses without USB-C PD or you can use EF lenses with USB-C PD.

From my understanding converting a full frame lens to a super35 or aps-c crop not only affects the focal length equivalent but also the f-stop. So you would, in this case, multiply 1.38 to the f-stop as well as the focal length. And then when using the speed booster you would multiply the result by 0.71. So my question is do you really gain a stop of light, or is it back to the approximately full frame equivalent? What do you think?

Josh, as a primarily R5C user, I was so excited when I saw you re-purchased the R5C, knowing we would be getting some sweet, detail-rich content. This video proves it. Love the "party trick" and you getting the actual numbers from Canon. Thanks so much for your awesome videos! I also like the speedbooster combined with ISO 6400, which is only one stop above native ISO (3200), and puts the camera effectively at the same EV value as Sony's 12,800 ISO cameras. Pair this with the great in-body noise reduction on R5C (covered by you and Gerald Undone) and it becomes a nice low-light camera.

Great detailed breakdown, thanks Josh. There’s one other use similar to your last test, which I discovered while playing around with the viltrox speed booster and the Helios 44-2. If you use the speed booster in full frame mode, but leave Digital IS off, then in post, crop out the sides of the frame (to a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio), you essentially now have open gate on the R5C.

I have an EF 50mm 1.4 lens that is having issues with the autofocus (but my other EF lenses seem to do just fine). Could this just be a Metabones issue? 2. Does the “eye detection” only work with RF lenses? In the menu, I wasn't able to access that AF feature (and others) with my EF lenses attached. Thanks!

I couldn't find any information about the 4K modes in Super 35. I would guess that the 4K XF-AVC and MP4 modes in Super 35mm are oversampled from the 6K up to 60 fps. But I don't know for sure.

I've seen comparisons of new RF glass vs older EF glass, and the RF almost always edges out in sharpness. So my feeling is older EF glass + speedbosster would sacrifice too much sharpness. The R5C has a great sensor, why limit its full capability.

Wait a minute, whats happening at 7:30?? When you go from 8k raw to super 35 mode (6k raw) on the r5c? Did it just lose a stop of light (from the crop) and gain it back from the speedbooster to even it out?? -Otherwise I thought the super 35 6k crop would be a plain "unchanged" crop that in turn would allow the cam to gain a stop of light from the speedbooster. (Did you stop down?) The reason I ask is because if I can get a speedbooster for the sole purpose of gaining a stop of light.. that would be amazing! That would be like having a third optional base iso taking the 3200 base to a faux 6400. (Albeit 6k [which is a bonus lol]) Thats literally more usable than 12,800. So what happened to that light? Excuse my worddiness (caffeinated) ALSO I just REALLY want to stop my vintage lenses DOWN on a raw camera that isn't sony. The stopped down flare of legacy lenses is.. 🤌*chefs kiss. Thats why I in particular want this.. sigms arts are nice but vintage flares in a dark moody environment at a base iso.. that's.. spending that extra leeway well. Anyways thanks for opening up this discussion anyways. Theres a lot of curious people out there!
@Josh_SattinАй бұрын
If you add a speedbooster you will increase the light coming in to the sensor (and thus expsosure) by one stop. For example a F2.8 lens will give you the light of F2.0. Please check out this video for a full explanation on speedboosters: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXaam36QppyJr6M

@@Josh_SattinThat was not my question I understand that. My concern is a little more specific. @7:43 it's the same exposure but you mentioned that you didnt change the exposure in post. Did you compensate it in any other way. Wouldn't one be brighter than the other? Later on you at 9 min you demonstrate the extra stop of light gain, I'm just wondering why it didn't have an extra stop at 7:43? In 8k mode the extra stop is nice. But it would really shine in 6k. @@beeftownz "The reason I ask is because if I can get a speedbooster for the sole purpose of gaining a stop of light.. that would be amazing! " I don't remember exactly what I did because I made this video 9 months ago. If the exposure is the same then I had the camera at the same F stop on both. The camera actually will show you the new F stop with the speedbooster. For example if you have a F2.8 lens and you use a speedbooster, the R5C will show F2.0 when it is fully opened since you can get another stop of light. I must have set both to the same F stop.
