Canon R8 Best Lightweight Wildlife Travel RF 100-400mm RF 2X Extender

I am finding it hard to believe these RF extenders would be this good. I've got the 1.4 extender and both 100-400 and 200-800 lenses, before the purchase, I was skeptical about the IQ but to my surprise, both these lenses performed spectacularly with the extender. But a lot of reviews don't mention this at all. The extenders won't really give you more reach if you're looking for the Same IQ you were getting without the extenders however, it'll make your subject fill the frame easier. So if you can take sharp photos at 100 feet without the extender, you're not gonna reach 140 feet to get the same image with the 1.4 extender, but rather you can still get the same IQ on a 100 feet subject and it'll be much bigger. So these are perfect for macro or closeup shots!

yup point of TC is not that you stand further than you should if used wisely it works as intended with good results

I've tested both RF 2x & RF 1.4x. Get the 1.4x as the 2x is slower afc for Birds inf flight

Rf 100-400mm if you need flexibility else 600mm is really good prime

Hi Richard, great video. I also have R8 and 100-400 and 800F11. I like 800F11 on R8 because it is full sensor focusing unlike on R5 (on R5 you get a square box in the middle). But I hate 6 meters MFD on 800F11. How is Image Quality on 100-400 with 2X?

IQ is still good but slightly slower in tracking fast birds in flight due to high f-stop either way the RF 800 will still be sharpest at max length

@@RichartAsia yep it (800F11) is pretty sharp but if you like to shoot small birds (like hummingbirds that I love shooting) you gotta be close to them and 800mm F11 just does not work as well as 100-400 or 100-500 or I suppose the new 200-800.

@@DmitryBrodsky007 yup for small hovering birds or bees 100-400mm more suitable at close range it's still sharp with the RF 2x don't worry it's only at max that it's performing lesser to RF 800

@@RichartAsia One thing I sometimes do on 800F11 is I use 35mm macro tube between it and the camera. This lowers the MFD from 6 meters to 4.8 meters. It also slows the Autofocus somewhat, but 4.8 meters is better than 6 Meters.

why not R7 + TC1.4X isn't that a better combo? with 896mm reach and faster f-stop f/11 at the end.

Nice video! I have an canon eos r10 with the rf 100-400 lens and I find myself always needing a bit more range. Would you recommend I get the 1.4x or 2x teleconverter? I am torn between deciding on the two… please help with a recommendation 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Get the RF 1.4x TC it's almost 900mm FF due to sensor smaller can't go higher ISO for the 2x f16 that's too dark for the R10

The R8 has a digital zoom also. Have you tried that with the 100-400mm lens? If so, what did you think of it?
