CANON'S BIGGEST MISTAKE

I've been shooting the original EOS M since 2014 and really enjoy the camera. It's very light and takes good photos. Focus isn't always dead on but it's not bad. I don't like the focus breathing when doing videos if it is in AF mode. I'm assuming that the newer versions took care of that.

Still hoping for a small RF-S camera, yes the mount is big, but you can get smaller after the mounting point. RF mount could even fit a M6 II body size if well designed.

The R100 and R50 are tiny. Very small cameras. Just like the M50

I mean that’s true but I think the issue come down to the size of the lenses. I just love the option of bringing more lenses on a vacation. I brought 4 lenses and a camera in the space that I could barely fit my R6 and EF85mm 1.4 into.

@@walter_fernandez canon need to rebuild the 22mm f2 and the 32mm f1.4 into the RF-S mount for the APSC line

This is why I went off Canon. I am an old man. I need lightweight gear. But Canon did not take APC EF-S seriously. They want to sell you full frame, and the were laughing at us for buying EF-S lenses, or M mount. In the end I got fed up with it. Ditched all the Canon gear and went the whole way, and bought M4/3. If you want Canon, you have to buy full frame. If you can't carry the weight any more, buy something else. They are just laughing at you.

Walter you are so right, this is now Canon's underground sleeper system. These cameras will have extremely long lives in the aftermarket and i plan on never abandoning the system, even if i eventually delve into RF. I hope to join you in the EF-M crusade soon once i finally start making videos. Can't believe i never subbed before and that your sub count is so low! You def deserve more. Looking forward to the more in-depth video.

The M mount is even bigger in diameter than the Sony E mount. So Canon could put a FF sensor in M mount.

But then they would have to make bigger lenses to accommodate the FF sensors - which probably wouldn’t be a wise decision if the M mount was meant for portability. Besides, the RF mount is probably the better choice for them in the long run.

I‘ve had and still have various Canon dslrs, crop and full frame. With the prices dropping on the used market I’m considering an EOS M6 Mark II with the EF M 32mm and a Sigma 16mm. How do you rate the M6II with the 32mm in regards to autofocus, especially eye af?

You and me both! I've got my original 300D, which I bought over 20 years ago now, a 20D, a 7D Mk II, and a 1DX Mk III. Those last three were all purchased used, are in great shape, and will likely last longer than I will. Much as I'd like to get a 5D Mk IV, it really would be kind of redundant with the 1DX, even though the 5D has "better resolution" in terms of MPs. I really haven't given any though to moving to mirrorless, though I know it's an option. I could get an R5, and since nearly all of my lenses are Canon EF or EF-S, I know I could get an adapter to use them. I don't shoot any video at all; only stills, and if I'm completely honest with myself, the cameras I have are more than enough for what I do. OTOH, since I have a bad case of Gear Acquire Syndrome, Christmas is coming... 🙄

Hey Dude! I‘m well aware of G.A.S. being what makes most of us buy new or more cameras. I‘m affected as well. And I envy you for the 1DXIII. Most sensible thing for me would be to get an R8 to photograph my family. I too have decent EF lenses. But I’m afraid it’s too amateurish for my soul. I’m eyeing a used R5 once the R5 mark II comes out and prices drop a bit more. Hopefully. I do own an EOS 5D mark IV and it’s great. But I want eye AF!

Oh the images from that 32mm lens is beautiful. I reckon the prices of these cameras would go down further as Canon produces more RF cameras in this range - or everyone just leaves to Sony Fuji or Nikon for these specific uses. I love the M6 II but it does have it’s flaws. The autofocus is amazing but isn’t quick enough to catch up with it’s blazing burst rate. If you shoot one-shot most of the time, you’re good. You’d probably get 8/10 hit rate in the fastest burst mode. Eye AF is good enough but not R5/R6 onwards level. Probably on par with RP and R which is honestly good enough. In video mode, you have 4K and 24/25 fps but it overheats after a while. You get 1080p 120/100 fps without autofocus or audio. Other than that, video performance is solid. Very decent in low light. Very light weight body which could be a pro or con depending who you’re talking to. Screen is beautiful and image quality is exactly what you’d expect from Canon. If you can’t tell, I love this camera hahaha

@@walter_fernandez Thanks for the lengthy reply! I guess I will try it out soon. The 32mm must be fabulous. I love the shots I get with my old EF50mm f/1.4 at f/2 on Full frame, so that should probably be equivalent to the 32mm, though in a smaller package.
