When I do use auto iso I always set the upper limit to 1600 so then I can be sure it won't be grainy. I find it really helpful for the few times I do need shutter priority mode. The fact you can set this upper limit makes program mode pretty much unneeded.

Great video, learned a lot from it! I am not sure if anyone can help with this - I have a Canon SL3 and using a prime 24mm lens with autofocus on. It always starts in focus but then it degrades. I have it set to face recognition AF and servo. It's on a tri-pod and I'm doing some instructional stuff, moving around a bit but not too much. Can anyone tell me why it wont re-focus on my face? It's in manual so I can set the shutter speed to 2x the frame rate and fstop is 2.8. TIA!

You said SL3 needs a Canon ext. flash. Not. Flashpoint Zoom Li-onTTL for Canon. with integrated R2 radio transceiver. Adorama used $109. Works even though there are 5 pins on the flash Hot Shoe. However, Canon assumed if you are only using Auto, you wouldn't need an ext flash. Hence..all the confusion. Won't find ext flash. Argh! Use M on camera first to find flash. Works. Then...you can turn it to Auto and the flash still works

Great video and just subscribed! I have old M42 lenses and want to use them on the SL3 because of MF Peaking. Can I just get the adapter without chip confirm? For manual lens - Do I have to shoot photos on live view only or I can have peaking colour through the viewfinder? Can't thank enough for making this tutorial!!

Godox V860iii flash and Godox X2T trigger both work with my 250D/SL3. The flash works on camera as well, manual and TTL-E.

I gave up on the SL3 250D and sold it. Then bought another just to give it a second chance. It still didn't perform well for me. Sold the second one. I just about broke even on the pair of them, and I am quite happy with my T6i

Sorry, but I don't believe for even a moment that you can't use generic brand (eg. Godox) flashes on it. That has never been true for any Canon camera.

Hello. Thanks for this tutorial. A problem popped up after I watched your video, I was hoping you could help me fix it. When on any setting other than Auto, if I shoot using the optical view finder, when I take a picture the mirror doesn’t drop down afterwards unless I push the shutter button again. This doesn’t happen when I’m on live view mode so I figure that it’s a setting thing that I did wrong when I was following along with your video. Can you help me with that setting, whatever it is?

Likely it isn’t focused - when if AFS it will prevent the shot from being taken until it’s in focus

Nice tutorial! I plan on using this camera as my main camera for streaming. Is there a way to get its screen to work, while it is hooked up to the PC via HDMI and is recording? For me, the screen always shuts off and I can't find any information on whether it is actually possible. It would be awesome to have some "monitoring" to see what the camera is looking at, without having to unplug the HDMI everytime I want to change a setting.

I can never understand why Canon (and others) don't mark their EF-S lenses as the cropped value considering the 1.6 cropped format cameras are the only ones they will fit on. An EF lens is for full frame cameras, so having the lens marked as the true value and applying the 1.6 x crop factor value makes sense when fitting to a 1.6 cropped sensor camera.

A question: is it possible to record video in pal 24fps 1080? As I know in ntsc can't record on 24fps. But What about pal mode?. I need this for a cinematic look!

I don't like the AV Mode that much because you'll never know when the camera will choose to blurry your images. When I'm shooting some photos in a event I prefer to have control of the shutter speed, that way I will know the images will always be sharp.
