The RSI SmartCap continues to evolve as I have finally installed the absolutely AWESOME Enerdrive Adventurer 12V setup. This premium travelling 12V setup comes pre-wired with a 2000W AC-transfer inverter, 40A 240V charger and 40A DCDC with MPPT. I have paired it with a 200aH BTEC lithium battery. This 12V setup means we can run most 240V appliances and all the 12V gear and virtually stay off-grid indefinitely! I also road test and demo the BushWakka Extreme Darkness 270 Awning and explain the years of R&D and engineering improvements that have gone into this one.

We added a Bushwakka U-Beaut 270 to our Jawa Lowdown 13- absolutely love it. The U-Beaut doesn't come with inbuilt lighting, however we have permanently added a strip light (white/red led's) over the pull out kitchen - works a treat

Hay Ant, mate where can I get hold of the pully strap, you use to tension the awning ends? thanks for your reviews mate, appreciate your time. Also, my wife and I did a few days along Lions Road between Beaudesert in Qld and Northern NSW. Amazing place a few campsites up that way. Sheep Station Creek in Border Rangers National Park is closest to the bush walks and spectacular scenery looking back over the volcano caldera from a very high viewing point.

Nice work. There is a lot of weight on one side of the vehicle and whats the plans for water crossing as water may get into the tube and will destroy the Enerdrive gear. I have a next gen raptor and looking as a rsi canopy but i have used a tred store box to put my 200 btec and 2000 watt inverter in there with the bcdc redarc 1240d on the out side to keep heat away from battery and will pop open lide on case when using 240 volt but love the mods and ris canopy set up you have.

Hi mate. Sorry for the very late reply, not sure how we missed this comment. The battery and tub was high and dry on our recent half lap of WA. The deepest crossing we did was to El Questro Gorge, about 900mm and 70m long. Not a drop in the tub… decent bow wave and bobs your uncle even over a longer span. I get the weight thing, sort of counter balanced with the long range tank sitting more driver side and I store 40L of water on the roof rack above, drivers side as well. Not perfect but just attentive weight distribution

Hi! Yes the Howling Moon was a good awning, as explained in the video, Bushwakka asked us to test theirs and so we did. The pros for the howling moon- lighter, reflective canvas is great, easy setup. Pros for Bushwakka- more coverage, built in lights, endo-frame seems very strong. I’ll tell you in 12 months which one is more rugged. This 12V setup we’ve just installed is the ultimate for a car…. The Rough Country fridge has been surprisingly good

Hey mate. Love your videos. Just wondering with dust factor I thought you mentioned in a previous video that you had installed a dust kit in the tailgate. I am surprised that you are still having dust problems. Do you think the tailgate dust kit is worth installing?

Not having dust problems mate. What you can see is left over from the lap pre-canopy and my laziness, not detailing the tub. The ref to dust in this vid is the the dust suppression vent in the Smartcap. It works a treat

Just grabbed one today, it has lights on all arms and no poles at all. Happy with the lights but disappointed about the missing pole.

Ours came with one leg, it is Velcro’d onto one of the frames…. Mind you, we had ours out in ~50km/h winds at Sandy Cape last week and didn’t even use it!

Hey just wondering as I have the smartcap aswell, what load bars/roof rack did you use on the smart cap for the270- awning, and do the brackets comes with as i plan on getting bushwaka aswell ?

Hi John, I use the Rhino Pioneer platform and then use the Bushwakka supplied brackets. Hot tip on the brackets, keep the inox up to them or they will start to corrode

Yeah sure does, compliances at 3350. When we are fully loaded for travel with 133L fuel, gear, beer and all Mavo’s crap, the car sits at about 2900. We’ve tested a lot of vans in the last year, and talk weights on most videos, so check them out. I generally aim to keep the ball weight at 10%. We’re lucky to have a weigh bridge about 1.5km from where we live, so we can get GCM and untethered weight with each van. I have a BW scale, and it’s an ok guide but not perfect. Obviously your weights change everyday due to slight changes in water, food, fuel, distribution etc, but the ute with the GVM upgrades has always come in under. If we were a family travelling with a couple of teens (extra body weight and gear) we would be pushing limits…. The other thing to watch with the way most hybrids are configured, are your left/right variances as the passenger side tends to heavy with awning, external fridge etc, so you need to try and distribute packing to balance. For the BT, interesting this model (Isuzu spec) is notorious for going very close to being over front axle loading once a bullbar and winch goes on, but again we are good there with the gear that I’ve chosen
