NEED this! Only thing I can really see being a minor issue is finding a comfortable spot for that control box. Pretty limited real estate on my dash where it will be visible. Would be awesome if they would make a round mini guage size option that would fit in a standard size A pillar guage pod! That would put this unit right in line of sight and be a clean, professional looking install.

The problem isn’t the gearing. It’s power. If his project car on the vid has a 5.4L supercharged v8 that car won’t feel like a grandpa car with 500hp compared to the 260hp the 4.6L 8v commonly produce.

Just got one of these on a 06lincoln I won took me a week to realize I needed a new shifter battery and to re register it haha but so far so good an I leave this hooked in? I notice a green light on and I’m afraid it will drain my battery?

looks like a worthwhile upgrade. It's too bad they don't have a multiple OBD connector so you can plug in something else into OBD while using this (like torque app)

There's a guy on Facebook that does repairs to the units and will even add LED'S of a requested color. Panther clusters. They do good work.

That's not the only reason the dash acts that way. Sometimes the solder joints go out on the circuit board, that's what happened to mine, so not always the wire

* UPDATE * It’s about a month since I’ve equipped my p71 with CANSHIFT. BEST INVESTMENT let me say. Since the fuel prices have rocketed in the us, It’s definitely a noticeable difference between switching from normal automatic to semi automatic. My avg fuel economy is much better using CANSHIFT. Especially when you daily drive in the mountains. And it helps my transmission stay in the correct gear when driving through turns on inclines. Thank you Mr. Random for helping me with this more than Necessary mod!!!!

Towing mode? Do you mean OD off. Overdrive off just means you don't have a 4th gear and the car won't shift into 4th when coasting

Those cars sadly weren’t made right, I owned one and it was the worst car experience I’ve ever had and everyone else has many problems with them as well. Ford shouldn’t have used that Jaguar v8 and just put the 4.6 in it

Yes if you own one and haven’t changed the timing belt I would do that ASAP, had to throw a motor in mine and then that motor had a misfire no one could find, just like the old motor did lol total pain in the ass I had sensors failing left and right as well

@@drakeshriver2316 the misfires are usually caused by the camshafts jumping a tooth. replacing timing chain tensioners is a must every 70k in these things

This sounds fantastic... but... I have an OBDLink MX+ in my OBD port to run an android tablet with FORScan I have in place of my broken instrument cluster in my 2009 Vic. This brings to mind the use of those janky OBD port splitters. I assume all this box is doing is firing off specific gear requests at the PCM. IN THEORY those messages should only require very brief use of the CAN network which I wouldn't think would cause a major disruption like using two live data monitors would - the achillies heel of those splitters. I don't suppose you have one of those splitter cables and would be willing to see if this shift device conflicts with active multi PID monitoring on a scan tool, would you? I do wonder if this new toy requires a large or constant number of packets to lock the transmission in one gear. This is a poor quality image of my set up, if you are curious: ibb.co/FDVZVjJ I've been rocking this tablet exclusively for instrumentation for several years now and I could never go back to the boring and uninformative original cluster as much as I would love to shift my own gears.

Replying a year late but here's this info for future generations. I use a sctx4 to monitor temps and I tried the jank amazon obd2 splitter and it angered the pcm none of the gauges worked noting wanted to connect to the obd2 port after cycling the key multiple times everything finally started working again currently searching around for answers. gonna try another splitter from a more reputable company.

The only down side to paddle shifters, especially this kind, is that they are useless for any racing where you are gonna be doing a lot of steering and/or counter steering. So autocross, drift racing, etc. And the reason for that is because in the very slight but also very possible chance that you need to shift mid steer, you are now taking your focus off of steering and wasting your energy trying to figure out which paddle shifter to use. Modern cars with paddleshifters have solved this problem by having upshift and downshift on both sides of the steering wheel. But it still gets hectic if you are in the middle of showing out in a turn and need to shift.

I also have to say, the SCT X4 with the Marty Tune is fantastic in the shift department. It naturally stays in a lower gear instead of defaulting to overdrive when cruising at low speeds. Also, when you punch the gas, it downshifts quickly and firmly, and at the exact right moment it upshifts quickly and firmly. Love it!

i have that SCT marty shift tune on another crown vic and it still doesnt compare to the canshift. and with a little bit of practice theres ways around the shifting while steering issue

Can't see the RPM in the video. If you want to downshift. Just add 3 seconds before you wanna downshift. (Or stay sending it) If you wanna corning at speeds, get wider wheels and tires (18x10 all around) and suspension. Not hating but don't see the point for paddle shifters
