Hi Ed I am right handed and left eye dominant I used to solve this by simply closing my left eye, I was happy with the scores I was getting but I am developing a cataract in my right eye that means I am getting a blurred picture when closing my left eye now. Are my options learn to shot off my left shoulder or get my cataract done. I feel my local optician doesn't understand my problem. Should I be making a trip to Wolverhampton? many thanks for any advice Matt

@@matthewcarter2411 Matt - thank you for your email and great question. I’d be happy to see you face to face to go through the options.y immediate thoughts would be to get the cataract done, this would have to be arranged privately as you may be under the threshold for an nhs procedure

How would this affect the user’s peripheral vision and depth of field?
@edlyonssportsvision91978 ай бұрын
Definitely affects both, so the shooter has to train with the new visual data prior to competition time. Different stances, timing and footwork 👌🏼

They have to be individually fitted as they’re a custom made option but your optometrist should be able to help.

Ed, I am right handed but left eye dominant due to being amblyopic in my right eye. No one talks about this condition as it’s not super common. But being that my right eye vision can’t be corrected and is around 20/50 uncorrected, I assume there is no way to train through that and you have to shoot from your dominant eye correct? Meaning that I would need to shoot left hand? Would love to hear your thoughts or discuss this with you

REALLY good question. In an ideal world, you would swap shoulders (see Richard Faulds as an example) however I have known some shooters work around this but they’re able to put 3000 rounds through the gun in a week to develop precise gun mount, muscle memory and target strategy, which is a very privileged position to be in!

@@edlyonssportsvision9197 I’m curious as to how someone can do it when essentially they’re looking down the left side of the barrel (assuming right handed/left eye dominant). Unless they’re rolling their head over far enough to align their left eye with the rib?
@edlyonssportsvision91978 ай бұрын
@@zackbutler950 agreed - and the only way it’s been described to me is “it’s a feel thing”. The shooter is aware of the visual imbalance, as such makes a compensation for target. For example, a RH left eye dom shooter would typically be behind a right to left target and in front of a leg to right (assuming all other technical issues are addressed) so, they consciously build in more lead than the sight picture dictates one way and subtract it the other. Straight driven are shot slightly off line to the right to then centre pattern the bird. The key is to train it so it becomes subconscious. However, this is ultra hard to do to any degree of international success

Any issues with headaches or tiredness, from too much strain on the other eye? Say over a couple of hours on a 100 bird shoot?
@edlyonssportsvision9197 Жыл бұрын
Excellent question. So when an eye is fully occluded, the other eye has to be corrected to the absolute highest level of resolution to alleviate eye strain or any loss of acuity that may be masked with both eyes open

@edlyonssportsvision9197 So what would you recommend Ed, for those interested? Not me personally, but as somebody that did struggle with eye dominance until I found my solution, I'm interested in all options, to help others.

Is the user still able to gather light through the eye with this lense, or is the experience completely dark?

Totally opaque as if the eye is closed
