Great video, my canton dm50 finally has a problem and the sound cuts out randomly. I tried what you suggested and if I keep it below 70 it works fine. I will try to get the aluminium plate on the heat sink and see if that helps. If not I guess it’s time to get out the multimeter and checks the capacitors.

Hello, Before my message, I wish you and your family : Have a nice day and happy new year! I have the canton dm50. There is few days the sound bar have big bang noise. The next day the sound bar doesn't start with the remote(there is a power supply because the led is green). I changed the battery of the remote control but no result(I tested the remote control with my "gsm camera" and it's work correctly). Can you help me? Thanks in advance, Vincent. I have exactly the same problem. Why was I manipulated into paying for this item! Customer service told me to send it to them, so I did, but they never collected it and it got returned to me. They then stopped replying to my emails.

I have the same problem with DM55.I checked the supply voltages 3,3V and 1,8 V ,everything is fine.If its not the D2 chip ,what else ?I'm from Poland and RTV service technician. I've repaired another DM50 after C177 short.IRF9Z34N was defective (no sound) .Can You set aside a secret,ev. can I mail You ?

I saw a DM55 without the extra metal bracket for cooling, seems they are shipping the same as DM50

Hi, great video. My DM50 works fine about 10 min, then start a loud noise like a motorbike and can't do anything to stop it. Only power it off from main plug. Any idea what parts could be wrong? Thank you for your time.

When I opened the Soundbar I found a smd resistor laying loose in the casing but I just can not find its original place. Hi, got a broken DM50. A screw cracked and ripped of both smd parts located left from TL072 Pin1-2 Operation Amplifier. Can you provide me values or a label from these parts? Was not able to see them im your vid ;( I guess one is a cap, the other a resistor (which should be labeled). Greetings and nice Video :)

my dm55 doesnt even turn on anymore. i plug it in and the green led lights on. but after a few sec. it switches to the red led for just 1 blink. i dont know, maybe the remote has a problem too, the infrared it always on(when checked with a camera).

Hi 2010shadow80 , very nice video but my problem is a bigger one. I got a boot loop as a result of power outage, but it's not as you described. So after opening the back panel, i saw that on the main logic board, a few resistors and capacitors were completely fried. Can you please send me a clear picture of that board, front and back, to [e-mail], so i'll order the fried parts and could replace them. I'm asking your help since i couldn't find no where this circuit blueprint or it's board BOM (all part description). Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the type of connector that the canton DM50 uses to internally connect the speakers to the internal amplifier? I'm going to convert my broken DM50 into a stereo speaker box, so I am going to connect external wires to the speakers to run it off an external amp. But thought I'd connect the wires using the clip connectors rather than cutting the wires.

Hi folks. Heres something that might be useful to you.. So, unless you have solid electronics skills - fixing a CANTON DM50 Bootloop issue is going to be nearly impossible as the reasons for the bootloop vary from unit to unit. This means (for most of us ) junking the unit or trying to sell it for spares/repairs on eBay. If you have a couple of hours on your hands - dont do that - instead, take the back off the unit, cut the clips off the cables that go to the speakers (there are 2 pairs for left and right woofer and tweeters) - drill 2 5mm holes in the back of the unit (one for left pairs , the other for right pairs. Pass the cables through - terminate them with a wire-terminal-block (or whatever you are happiest with, and connect the DM50 directly to your hifi. it sounds just as good - doesnt need electrical power as its now a passive speaker box - and a very good and tidy one at that! You could buy a 50W RMS Class D mini amp from eBay for about.. £20 and youve got your DM50 back, or wire the unit as stereo speakers into the back of your Hifi. Theres no Bluetooth functionality - but you can add all this with inexpensive gadgets from ebay if you want. The good news here is that the DM50 is actually a very well built unit and turns out the vast majority (id say 90%) of its sound quality comes from the PHYSICAL unit, with the electronics supplying bluetooth, amplifier and surround effects adding the final 10%. I know it sounds a bit of a hassle - but it really is worth it - you'll thank yourself for it - and it doesnt rely on any electronics skills- you just need a drill and a 5mm bit - speaker cable, and a terminal-block to make connection of the DM50 to your hifi amp (or ClassD amp from ebay if you are using that) and a bit of time and patience to do a decent quality job - and you have your DM50 back - and it sounds just as good - those ebay CLassD amps are surprisingly decent - get a 20V 65W (or 90W) laptop power supply - (the laptop brand doesnt matter) to power the amp and youve got your Canton back! thought id share - there is a way to keep your DM50 useful - it really does make an awesome stereo speaker in its own right! Anyway - hope this helps folks - you can get your DM50 to fly again ..as long as you dont mind cheating :) and just bypassing the problem. Happy again!

Unfortunately, I have another problem with my DM50: When I connect my Apple TV Box with the optical cable, I hear quietly the rinsed music, but the DM50 does not respond to the remote control. What can I do? My TV unfortunately has no optical output and the DM50 does not respond to any input via remote control...Kind Regards

Well, my DM50 has just joined the club of bootlooping cantons :( I'm taking your advice in this video, im not going to try to fix it, and i have been quoted about EUR200 to fix it - so i'll be selling it on ebay i suppose. Out of interest, when a DM50 is bootloping, why is it doing that? I dont mean whats the hardware fault, just curious what logic is causing it to loop? is some sort of logic test failing ? like "Input current is too low so i will restart" -but maybe the reasons WHY the current is too low are very complex. Wish i had your electronic skills - if i knew what i was doing id have a go, but i'll take your advice i think! :)

2010shqdow80 - awesome! thats it! (just turned it up to 11 haha!) The bit in the video wher eyou shows the DM55 was essentially the same as DM50 but with an upgraded heatsink - looking to replicate that. Afte rusing it for 5 minutes it got really hot - much hotter than i expected it to be - and there clearly isnt much space around it to dissipate so hopefully adding more heatsink to it will workaround the problem. Thanks so much for the song reference - i would never have got it without your help :) Im getting into Eurodance.. 20 years late .. haha! Thanks again - A.

Thank you for the video! As I see from forums, this video will be popular :) I've got the boot loop on my DM 9 yesterday too. Digital part of hardware must be the same, I think. Do I understand correctly that boot loop can be fixed by changing D2 soundprocessor? It is exactly "turn on - show input - show volume - turn off" loop.

A P hi in not every case you have to change the D2 audio ic. And yes also the DM9 is the same I saw some DM50 main PCB writing on the back DM50 DM75 DM9.The boot loop problem was the biggest challenge with this Cantons.

I'm going to make an additional heatsink as per your drawing, but can you tell me what size screws hold it onto the original heatsink on top of the amp module?

@@2010shadow80 I've added a heatsink I made using your drawing, with thermal transfer tape inbetween, but I'm still getting the sound cutting out. I'm going to try repeating the original heatsink back on the 2 chips with new thermal transfer paste, and maybe add some extra fins to the new heatsink.

2010shadow80 thanks. I bought myself a dm50 on a "garage sale" with no sound. I see a c177 cap missing but have no idea what kind of cap to use (cannot find schematics). Mine keeps power on all the time but provides no sound. Can you help what to check? Reworking d2 audio chip makes sense if no boot looping?

qradzio what you mean keep powering on? About that capacitor works without that fine yours is a earlier model I had only 2 DM50 s with that capacitor in place the rest was without and also the R317 removed also works fine without that
