👍🏻si4 si4 is not bad. It makes sense. Perfectly understandable as well. But I would say "sing4 jat6" sounds more natural.

I am getting to the point that I believe I am quite skilled in listening and understanding your lessons. While watching your videos, I usually pause it so I can write the Chinese characters though I do not remember them all. One thing that I don't have much practice in is oral communication (I don't really try...maybe fear of embarrassment) even though my partner's Cantonese is at an advance level and could help me. She talks to me in Cantonese, and I respond in English. It annoys her, but I don't mean to. Anyway, thanks for your lessons. They are a great help to me.

I'm about your level I think. I generally know all the content in these videos already but they are excellent refreshers and give me some confidence (which can often slump) to hear and understand them.

@@breadyegg Amanda has put together a great lesson plan teaching us Cantonese. The earlier lessons built up our vocabulary and progressively thru sentence structures and now various applications in situation where we are likely to face in real life. We have Amanda to thank. I am sure we are advancing in a pace that is best for us. Best of luck to us both in our Cantonese journey.

Is it possible to say 佢冇時返學, to mean "She never goes to school"? Or does that sound strange?
@5minutecantonese Жыл бұрын
We cannot say that way. you can say "keoi5 cung4 loi4 dou1 m4 faan1 hok6" 佢從來都唔返學

yeah I was wondering, when I asked someone how to say "I always do (something" and "i do (something) all day" i noticed it was the word Sing Jat. Is this just a context thing where it sometimes means all day and sometimes mean "all the time"? Or is there some ways to differentiate? like if I used future or past tense or a specific day it would indicate all day whereas if i used it without those words it would just mean "always"? Also, Dou. So that means "also". I see it used the same way in Mandarin, in some grammatical expressions. But is it used the same way as 也? 她也說廣東話 keoi dou sik gong gwong dung waa ? doesn't 都 mean "all" in mandarin? So is it not used that way in cantonese? 我朋友們都 all my friends or my friends also ???
@5minutecantonese2 жыл бұрын
sing4 jat6 means always instead of really doing something all day long. If you want to say so. you can add the time. e.g. keoi5 gam1 jat6 sing4 jat6 dou1 tai2 syu1. She is reading for the whole day today. dou1 means "also", just sometimes we have skipped the word "all" when the content is understandable. if you wanna say all. You can add: ngo5 go3 go3 pang4 jau5 dou1 we double the quantifier
