Praying for Rachel and Todd ♥️ I canned butternut squash for the first time a couple of years ago for baby food for my grandbaby No sugar , salt or additives 🎉 she ate it up!! I also did carrots and other veggies and fruits!! Wish I would have thought outside the box when my kids were in the baby food stage 💗

I didn't have pumpkin fir a pie, but I had butternut! I used my butternut squash for the pie! 😋 yummy Edit: I don't have any jars left empty, so I'm dehydrating carrots, potatoes, onion, and I made egg noodles and dehydrating since egg prices continue to skyrocket. I'll still have homemade egg noodles already made! 😁

One year having planted plenty of carrots, but no pumpkin due to garden space, for Thanksgiving I used carrots in lieu of pumpkin for our pie 🥧 my six children still gobbled it up, as did the neighbors I shared with😋 I am now eager to try butternut squash pie😁👍

The squash looks so pretty in jars and it seems like with chicken broth it would be almost an instant soup. An immersion blender and some heavy cream and spices and it’s ready to enjoy! I think I know what I’m canning next. I’m really enjoying Canuary! Thanks for hosting and sharing.

@@janew5351 We planted around 5 large hills with 5 plants per hill. We had a stand of volunteers as well....maybe 10 to 15 more plants in that stand. The approximate 200 is what is left after using a bunch and giving large amounts to family. We ended the harvest with 323 delicata squash. They are small-ish but oh so sweet....and they were crazy productive.

Because of Ms. Leisa and others that I have been following for about two years I have bought a water bath canner then a steam canner which I absolutely love and bought a pressure canner. Hoping this year to actually use it. Thank you to everyone who is participating in this series.

Years ago my favorite winter squash was acorn. And THEN I tasted butternut. It’s been my favorite since then. When I had a garden, 3 seeds planted on a mound gave me an abundance of harvest (miss those days). Last winter I canned butternut with a few cranberries added. It was a nice addition. Thanks for the collaboration. EPIC!

We grew butternut squash and pumpkins this year as our dog has to have some in his food each day (what I do for the 4 legged kid🙄). We ended up freezing it in a puree as it was easier for me than peeling it. I also volunteered to haul away all the pumpkin decorations in my daughter's development so I won't have to grow squash this year lol. The chickens were happy with the rest of the pumpkin remains. Thanks again Leisa for pulling all this together for us and to forjars for joining in. I love the forjars lids!

I have not canned butternut squash, but I have frozen it and I have found that heating a roaster pan of water and laying the squash in the boiling water for about 2 or 3 minutes until the skin turns a grayish color, then turn the squash over and repeat. Take the squash out of the water with "carving" size forks and let it cool a few minutes till handleable. Using a potato peeler, peeling the squash will be SO much easier, especially for people with hand problems. I have used this method for many years successfully. A knife will work also if that's what you normally use
