Kirk McLean and Trevor Linden have to be the ultimate Canucks! Great interview. Funny that his answer to the question in the headline was boiled down to "it's a coincidence" but I really thought he had a lot of interesting thing to say about all the topics Mo discussed with him. And I do think he's correct that fans of the Canucks need to give the new management a few years of patience. Change takes time with all of the contracts on the books, and difficult decisions have to be made. It's just a bit too early to say so far. Although, I will commiserate with anyone frustrated we didn't find a way to keep losing games and earn a better shot at landing Bedard this year.

I did some probability calculations, and, if my math was right, there's less than a 1% chance that canadian team would not win the cup after this long. This factors in the number of Canadian teams relative to the US (ie. Kirk McLean's "main reason" doesn't hold). There are structural reasons for this sitatuion. It's well beyond coincidence. Personally I think it has a lot to do with Canadian fans and media markets putting too much pressure on their teams.

You want to know why Canadian NHL teams haven't won the Stanley Cup in 30 years, I'll give you the answer in two words - Gary Bettman.

That and your passionate fanbases/media create sometimes unwarranted expectations that leads to a lack of patience.
