That Toews story about him telling the coach to put you back out there was awesome. As a former player at pretty high level that wouldve been the biggest boost.
@Jonathan-ih7qp6 ай бұрын
Jonathan Toews will always have my respect. Back during the lockout in 2012/13 I worked at a rink that Toews and a bunch of the Blackhawks and other NHLers that lived in/near Chicago rented out to practice/scrimmage together while the teams weren't officially practicing (if I remember correctly Toews was the one primarily organizing these pick-ups). The had about 4 or 5 of them over the course of a couple weeks. And though these were in the middle of the school/work day and though they were trying to keep things fairly quiet word had started to get out, and being a public rink people were coming by to watch. This was middle-of-dynasty prime Blackhawks so people were pretty excited about this when they found out. The first one had only a dozen or so spectators, but by the time the last one rolled around, there must've been between 150 and 200 people (maybe more) that showed up to watch. Now some of the other guys would sneak out the back door to try and not deal with the fans/crowd, but each time Toews left through the front door and talked to/signed autographs/took pictures with EVERY. SINGLE. FAN. that wanted to meet him. That last day he must've stuck around for almost 2 hours after he got off the ice just being there for the fans with a smile on his face the entire time. That impressed me as much as his skills on the ice. Class act.

Here's a Mike Smith story: I took my sons to public practice when Mike was the Stars goalie. After the skate players were tossing pucks, etc to the older kids while I had my 4 year old on my shoulders, crying because he was too small to get in the mix to get anything. Mike saw this and motioned me over. He kept his stick out of the reach of of grabby parents and made sure my son got it. Of course, it cheered him up instantly and I won't forget him being extra thoughtful to my little kid. Since his name came up in this video I'll take the opportunity to say 'Thanks, Mike!' publicly.

Man, every time ex-Blackhawks players talk about Toews, I think he was literally born to be a captain. The stories about interactions or instances with him always seem to have impacted his ex-teammates on a deep, personal level because he makes people feel seen, regardless of their position on the team. What a great guy. I hope we get to see him play again one day but if not I do hope he’s enjoying life and getting healthy again.

I was pleasantly surprised by this content. I was just reminiscing the other night with my dad about the first time i saw an NHL player. It was during a game in our small town arena and Greg Terrion who played for Toronto and came back to his home town to play as a guest on one of the teams just for fun... I remember hearing his skates on the ice sounded like he was carving through the ice and he made every player i thought was hot stuff look like literal babies. He was basically untouchable with the puck and he was just an average player in the NHL. The next time i saw him was when he got a team organized for a baseball tournament. Him and his brothers were on a team... Everytime these boys stepped up to the plate... Smuck! Without any effort homerun into the river... To see professional atheletes play sports even for fun... They are like on a different planet. So respect for being able to play at that level...

This is the thing about pro hockey players that I love, they fir the most part don't act/look like they have any sort of fame they act like a normal human that you'd go and chill with on a day to day basis. Love this content and I hit that sub button so im definetly here for more of this Perly!!!

I enjoyed the video. I moved to Phoenix in 1989. I was already a Sabres fan, but I loved watching the Coyotes play. Shane Doan was a particular favorite of mine, and thanks to the local media, I got to see his love for the local fans and community. It was great to hear about the other players as well. I'm going to subscribe to hear more about the inside of the NHL.

Brendan, thank you for this video! It just showed up on my feed, I'm glad it did. Great content. Above in the description you asked us to comment who our fav all time player is... Sounds so generic in a way to say it but it has to be Gretzky. I was 10 years old when the Oilers and Gretzky joined the league. Perfect timing for a kid that age. I was lucky to watch them growing up. The times for my team later on were a little dry so now I have a deeper appreciation for the game in general.

Such a cool video to see! You should be proud of yourself and everything you accomplished. Any games played in the NHL is one of the more impressive feats out there!

I grew up loving all sports but a casual hockey fan. This last year, i became neighbors with many hockey players and ended up buying season seats to support them. It's now officially my favorite sport! Love the fans and truly respect the men who play the game, bruised and battered, yet come home to walk their pups or kids with a genuine smile on their face! Class acts!

I feel like I remember him from then Sault. Maybe I’m wrong. Played or lived here. I’m a music teacher in town, and work at Case’s. Loved the video, and the stories! Really cool channel! Keep this style, as it’s not typical and refreshingl!

I’m a ball-hockey goalie in Edmonton in my late teens and early twenties I re-modeled my style after falling in love with Mike Smith’s style and intensity (short story: I did allow more goofy goals but was overall much better and led the league in penalties as a goalie) so I got a big kick out of your stories and totally get where you’re coming from. Awesome to hear all of the stories, and since I try to add more psychology to the hockey stats in my videos (especially with my fellow goalies), so I love this stuff, getting into the deeper psyches of you and the other players and what makes you guys NHLers beyond just the numbers and what we see on the television.

Love hearing bits and pieces from players without getting too deep into things and invading guys' privacy. As somebody else said this video came off just like Maven's videos do. Great job!
