Canva Terms for Digital Product Creators Explained | Can I sell Canva Designs?

At this point, for people who use canva to create items to sell, what good is the pro account? I would love to see a video on how you use a pro account to sell items ❤️

Canva is a design platform, the pro features that help you with design are things like the resize option, background remover, ability to filter out pro elements in search results, etc. You get lots of benefits with canva pro, and lots of other design platforms don't actually give you a much 💕

​@@ItsLizPeck I have found that for my niche, the free images are awful and mostly childish cartoons. Also the template options are quite limited. That's what I would pay for with a Pro subscription, but it sounds like it would be useless for digital downloads. I don't need the extras you mention as much as I need quality images and professional looking templates, not super basic or silly ones.

I loved your video! Your explanations were crystal clear and have given me a better idea on this subject. I have the following questions though. I'd really appreciate your help on them a) If we replicate a Canvo Pro element on say, Adobe Illustrator or any design program and then use the element in our digital downloads, would that be considered legal? b) When we use a free element from Canva, are we allowed to edit it in some way (e.g. change the color or add an effect to it) in addition to combining it with other elements, before selling the printable? c) If we create designs using Canva's free elements, can we still resize the download using Canvo Pro and still be able to sell the digital download? If you're creating your own elements from scratch then it likely won't be exactly the same, so it would be fine. You can change the colours of the free elements and do what ever you like to them in your designs. And yes you can resize with canva pro and sell your resized items, that doesn't affect anything 💖 I hope that helps, but if you want to check anything specific you can always reach out to canva's support team and they reply pretty quickly. It is slightly different for POD but I haven't really looked into it that much - here is the page you need to look at www.canva.com/help/licenses-copyright-legal-commercial-use/ and then if you have any particular questions email [e-mail] and they tend to reply very quickly!

Okay so I think I got this right ! If I make art work with free elements that’s okay ✅ If I do it with pro elements it’s bad ❌ If I make journals to sell can I use the template and alter the template (color,font not pro,and keep placements of line work )! Or just do it all from scratch ?!

Yes you are correct. With the templates I believe you have to make sure they look completely different to the original, so often it's easier to start from scratch 💖

Hi Liz! I’m reading comments to find the answer but you gave two different answers for almost same question, I got confused. Could you please clarify if possible: I pick a template on canva, removing anything except 1 element and background, adding some different mix of free and pro elements. Download and sell this as a sticker or banner design (eBay, Amazon, Etsy), technically I sell ready already printed sticker or banner using the design I created with multiple canva elements. Is that allowed? Thanks in advance!

Canva have different rules for items that are printed before purchase, so if that's what you are selling then you can use canva pro items in your designs. Thank you for clearing this up. I purchased Canva Pro but can't really use it's pro elements to sell printable art on Etsy, is that correct? I can only sell pintable art (of course, not exactly as is) as long as I use free elements? I feel bummed since it's quite pricey, makes me feel like it's a waste of money.

How about using your own design (element you created or photo you took) in the template, and sell those template? Will the buyer without Pro account be able to see that element on Canva and print? I’m sure the answer is yes, but love you thoughts. Thanks, great video!

Thanks for your video. So, it’s clear to me that using canva pro elements is ok for your personal use unless the work you create will be for commercial use. Am I correct?

You can use pro elements in personal projects and promotional items for your business, just not in things for sale as digital products. 😊

That is how I understood it as well, not things made WITH a template. I've read and reread their terms and I do not see the restrictions being discussed here. Why would they have book covers in Pro if users weren't allowed to use them in books for sale. Surely they don't think people are designing book covers and then just giving the books away????

Hey Liz, quick question.. What if I mix the free and pro content into my own original design and selling them as sticker/ postcard or some-kind? is it allowed or not at all?

If it is printed before the customer receives it then yes you can as they have different rules for this 💕

Thank you very much for your video. 1 Question: If I possess 100 unique designs and consistently employ the same purchased mockup to display them in my online store, is this practice permissible? Alternatively, are there specific licenses or fees required for such usage?

Yes, if you purchased a mockup you can use it over and over for multiple listings. You shouldn't need a special licence as you are not selling the mockup, just using it to display your product.

Hi Liz, I am creating Tshirt designs for my online store. I am using the pro elements provided in Canva, ( EG, a picture of a car which is pro element ) and then putting some font onto it and customizing it. Is this allowed? One of my shops got suspended but i wasnt sure if this was the case

Physical products have slightly different rules, just shoot canva an email at [e-mail] to check, they are pretty fast at replying and it's best to get it in writing so you know you're covered 💖

Hi Liz, what if I used a Pro Element and embedded or flattened it with the background image of the product, do you think that would be ok? I try not to use crown stuff if I can but otherwise when I do its either embedded or I will have it in my description previews that a certain text is a pro-canva product and they will need to upgrade to pro canva account to use it

You would be best to check with canva directly at [e-mail] they reply very quickly. I think it would be against their terms and conditions to flatten anything pro as a work around - but just check with them.

So you CANT sell images or pdfs with a pro element like a font or content but you CAN sell if the font or the content you use is free. Am I right?

Not correct for the font. If you google the name of some free fonts and check the licence you will see that commercial use is not allowed. They are free to use for personal use only , not for sale

That's incorrect. Canva purchased the commercial license from the font creators so anyone using it in canva can use them in items they sell. If you were using the font on another platform you'd have to pay for an extended license or you couldn't sell products created using it 😉

I wouldn't recommend using anything pro if you are offering a downloadable version as that's against their terms. Reach out to canva at [e-mail] to double check, they are usually very fast and helpful 💕

Am I following correctly 😩😩 if you make a digital notebook to sell, you can't create the cover or insides with any pro backgrounds, elements, templates, pictures, etc

Hi thanks for your explanation on Canva. So bottom line is that you CANNOT USE CANVA IMAGES at all unless you altered it correct? Makes no sense if you buy Canva Pro, to use the images but yet you cannot use it unless you make it your own. So why really purchase Canva Pro? Yet, you can use and sell all the CANVA FREE IMAGES, so why purchase Canna Pro if you cannot use it? Just makes no sense.

Canva pro is great for the features, it is a design platform not a stock image service. Most other design platforms like photoshop don't include anything like canva do 💖 but yes, they make all their terms a bit of a grey area so I wouldn't only stick to canva free items to be safe.

Can I save the template with pro elements and re upload it as a background and then do the texts to avoid watermarks for clients? In that way canva can still get potential clients coZ I bring them traffic and maybe those ppl will sign up in future. It’s a win win 🫣
