Aha!!!! That's the face behind the voice we know so well and what a fantastic aircraft to have a flight in, she's such an aviation legend in my opinion, the throaty engine and the sound of the prop is fantastic!! We have a Harvard that flies around a lot near me (Essex) who has the electronic music legend Gary Numan in the cockpit!!!

A commercial company here in The Netherlands used a Harvard till deep in the 70’s for skywriting purposes. As a child I saw it sometimes on clear sunny days at a very high altitude making letters with smoke, making that typical sound that only a Harvard makes.. Btw, the MSFS 2020 Reno T-6 is very enjoyable when you want to fly a Harvard in a simulator…
@AudieHolland2 жыл бұрын
We used to live in Haarlem at the time. Most times we would see low flying jet liners, waiting for their turn to land at Schiphol. We did see a sky writing plane during Summer, although it flew too high to see what type of plane it was. Even at age 7, I thought his sky writing was rather simplistic, because all he ever drew was "7 UP"

Nice one Cap. Here in South Africa we have the Harvard flight; I think they have about ten, but I stand to be corrected. They used to fly over my house regularly at quite a low level; what a sound. I think every sim pilot should have that kind of experience at least once. I first did something similar about 30 years ago, and the feeling of that first time spinning around in the sky still stays with me, and really gives you a bit more appreciation for what those pilots back in WWII must have felt like to be strapped into something with a big piston engine and rudimentary technology. I'm just glad the flight didn't end in the traditional Grim Reapers random bailout!

Great video, when you mentioned not feeling the resistance ect thru controls in Virtual, have your group thought of reaching out a computer workout company like Tonal to give you a test unit. The group could get together and bodge a realistic feedback system from? They use a computer to simulate the resistance of weights and it should be adaptable to flight sims

@AudieHolland2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, video too long to watch. Did they mention the Harvard was used as the basis for the Zero fighters in "Tora Tora Tora!" and "The Final Countdown?" I believe they were also used to 'mimic' P-47 Thunderbolts in "A Bridge Too Far" though you can easily tell the Harvard and Thunderbolt apart (Thunderbolt has a giant engine and the plane itself is rather enormous for a single seat fighterplane).
