Capcom Vs SNK 2 was released on PS2 exclusively for a long time. The first game might garner attention from PS1 owners who never got a dreamcast--if their interest maintained, they might get a PS2 and buy Capcom VS SNK2. Don't be short-sighted--a game takes a long time and money to make; anyone who is smart with money (like Capcom) will try to port a succesful game (like Capcom VS SNK) to any system they can, even in a new generation of consoles--or backwards releasing unto older generations of consoles if there are still many people playing it.

It also had so much content. The second game just reused all these sprites, added a few new characters, stages, terrible music, a million grooves--and called it a day. It was such a cash grab, it wasn't even funny. It had no style, either, it was just color overload. CvSNK 1 had EX characters, extra music, extra stages, each character felt weighted (the second game everyone feels so light and small)--just overall, the first game was a labor of love and design, from the intro to the end credits, you could tell the game director and the animators all wanted THIS game to redefine fighting games. And they did--despite Soul Calibur 2 and other 3d fighters making their way up--Capcom vs SNK was super succesfull in a world set to become 3D models in all fighting games.

The CvS1 version of the game that was brought to the states also received some regional localization. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Rugal's Genocide Cutter was "renamed". So whenever he did the move in the game, he would just grunt instead of actually saying "Genocide Cutter". Also the Final Fight stage's music heavily edited as ALL of the lyrics were removed.

The characters' names are no longer announced in the overseas versions of vanilla CvS1, either; likely because the announcer literally says "MIKE Bison" when selecting Balrog/Boxer (if he simply said "Bison" without the "Mike", I imagine it wouldn't have been too much of a hassle to swap the sound bytes between the SFII bosses). This is probably why CvS Pro plays voiceclips from the actual characters you've selected instead (in all regions, regardless of platform). Sorry about the late response. soundclips

Yes you’re absolutely right but Sega even stated back in the day that even though the Sega Naomi had more ram than the Dreamcast that it was not at all going to affect the Naomi ports brought home from the arcade machine to the Dreamcast, the Dreamcast would still be able to handle them at 60 frames per second with arcade perfect resolution and graphics and boy did it live up to the hype, I remember when I first got my Japanese Dreamcast back in the day and I bought a Japanese version of Capcom VS SNK, and I remember playing it on my still running RCA CRT TV, and I just remember smiling so big I’m getting so excited because I couldn’t believe I was playing the actual 100% Sega Naomi arcade version at home I mean it was 100% identical you just had never seen anything like that unless you had owned a Neo Geo AES home counsel which no one could really afford back then so Dreamcast was a more affordable home version of the sega Naomi ❤️❤️

I have such a love-hate relationship with this game on the surface, it's easy to say CVS2 is superior, but that's not entirely true this game had some good and bad qualities to it don't like the nerfed version of Sakura created for this game and rather have her Alpha 2 incarnation? want Ryo Sakazaki's AOF incarnation rather than his KOF version? want FF Mai rather than KOF Mai? EX characters were lit, but they did not make a return in the sequel but thankfully, the sequel fixed the nerfed ratio system, meaning you weren't given artificial limitations when it came to choosing a team I'd love to see a CVS3 one day that takes the good aspects of both CVS and CVS2 and combines them add in the tag mechanic from MotM for good measure

It's to be expected the PS1 version would be lesser as the arcade game was built for more powerful hardware, and the PS1 was a generation behind. Still a valiant effort, and it's the version I own (Japanese version, and I had to have more Mai in my game collection, plus I don't own a DC). I got the Japanese version as the US version is more expensive now, but if you play it on a PS2 with any boot disc, the game will not run as it has copy/piracy protection on it, CvS 2 has that as well, but the version I have of that is the PS2 version.

thing is with this generation of 2D fighting games, is that the characters were always much lower res than the backgrounds, due to the costs of making high res sprites.. which never made sense from a player point of view. Great comparison - you didn't mention though that the lower horizontal resolution affects the Naomi and DC versions as well as the PS one, since the characters were simply pixel-doubled and therefore lower res than CPS SF titles (320 H pixels vs 384 H pixels). That is why the main characters were redrawn for this game rather than reused.

It’s very funny I’ve had people argue with me and different KZbin videos about the Sega Naomi VS the dreamcast saying that the Dreamcast ports will never look 100% identically good as the Sega Naomi ports would yes the second Naomi had more ram and sound memory but that was only for the Sega Naomi games that required more than one screen and sega Naomi system to run the arcade game, but other than that the sega Naomi games that only used just one sega Naomi arcade system were identically ported over to the dreamcast, even after I show them this video they still argue with me even though the evidence is clear as day that every single Sega Naomi port that was on the dream cast was 100% identical to it’s arcade version, Sega actually developed the Sega Dreamcast right along side the Naomi so that way whatever kind of hardware specs they put inside the Naomi they added right inside the Dreamcast so that way the Dreamcast could run the exact same way as the sega Naomi except you could now plug it into your TV at home and play it

I love this game. I bought it for PS1 at EB when it came out. I think this was the last PS1 game I bought before getting an OG Xbox. It is really impressive that Capcom was able to port this to the PS1. I recently did a play-through on my PS3 with a PS3 arcade stick. Tons of fun!

God, the PS1 port looks so impressive! Even with the severe hardware limitations they still managed to make a really solid port

Ainda não acredito q o dreamcast perdia em número de vendas para o ps1 e é pior ainda saber q ele teve uma vida tão curta....Dreamcast é uma máquina incrível até hoje!
