Everytime I go to cape disappointment I have to check this video first for which site to get. 👍

I stayed there about 10 years ago. I was treasure hunting the area. The whole time I was there you couldnt see 20 ft the fog was so thick.

Hi Reed. Thanks for posting this. We want to do some Washington and Oregon RVing in the future and I'll add Cape Disappointment to the list. I was hoping to see you with a beach box running :)

+Gus Chiggins A beach box is one thing that I haven't built, though I do have all of the parts :) Next time we will be mining for sure.

+Reed Lukens I can tell you from experience that the Keene Miracle Sluice Mat works VERY well in a beach box or for anything that requires ultra fine gold retention.

I was just there this past weekend and its is a wonderful area. Did you know there good gold there aswell. I have the free permit to highbank and dredge down there, there is a 3" to 12" thick layer of black sands about 6"-18" down.
@ReedLukens9 жыл бұрын
+Digger Dave I definitely will be checking that out next time. I did some detecting but we weren't set up for highbanking this time. But... Next year for sure :)
@Raincentral0037 жыл бұрын
Digger Dave how do you dredge down there on the beach? what I mean is how do you get enough water to run? I know the ocean is right there but it seems like the surf is always churning and at low tide its 100's of yards away.

That beach isn't a bad "gold" beach. Next time take your gold cube (or whatever), a copy of the state's gold and fish pamphlet, dig a hole and get some gold.

+Dennis Petersen Thanks Dennis, I definitely plan on going back and the Gold Cube will be packed for sure :)

How long is the beach? Do they have showers?
@ReedLukens8 жыл бұрын
The beaches are huge and there are 2 separate beach areas at least on both sides of the lighthouse. They do have nice showers and bathrooms

+Doublenotminer We only went out a couple times this summer, we family in the hospital, so we spent most of the summer out of town at the hospital. We planned on mining but it just didn't pan out this year. Plus my mining partner spent the summer going through chemo... So it wasn't that greatest year that we have been hoping for. But all's good now, his cancer is in remission.

+Reed Lukens Sorry to hear that. Hope you get out next year.

I won't camp in a " designated campground". Not my idea of getting out into nature. Just one of the many reasons I got the HELL OUT of California.

+Grandpa the Grey Cape Disappointment is in Washington State. I love staying in the woods myself but when it comes to the coast and beach camping at the waters edge, I've had to pay all the way up and down the Pacific Coast. If I didn't have a trailer and tent camped, there are spots that you can drive down the beach and boondock, but driving on the beach sand while pulling a trailer is something that I have never tried. I honestly just don't have the experience. I'm comfortable driving in a 4wd but on the beach with a trailer... Never even thought about trying it.

Reed Lukens I didn't know you could camp right on the beach anywhere on the west coast. I've been kicked off more than one beach in Calif. I have a Lance cab-over camper with all the whistles & bells, but seldom use it for camping. I'd much rather limp into the woods and find a stream to set up a base camp. In the Ozarks, ya can't throw a dead chicken without hitting a stream or waterfall.

We will be coming that way one of these days Chuck, we're heading to Arizona next month, then on to New Mexico to see some friends and then just heading east. We're loving the retired camping trailer life :)

Reed Lukens Good for you brother. If I wasn't raising a grandchild, I'd probably wouldn't even own a house. I'd be living in an RV and stay totally mobile.
