Cape Fur Seal approaches Southern Right Whale with Calf

Cape Fur Seals are naturally inquisitive, however,, as marine apex predators, they are known to mob other marine species, including Great White Sharks. Following on from two positive rabies cases in Cape Fur Seals in the Garden Route, it was interesting to observe two incidents where immature seals approached both Bottlenose Seals and a Southern Right Whale mother and calf pair. Their approach of the Bottlenose Dolphins was mobbing, with definite lunges at the dolphins tails, eliciting defensive and evasive action from the dolphins.
