Cape Hatteras Pumped! | Winter Storm Skylar

-EPISODE 5-
Winter Storm Skylar absolutely pumped here on Hatteras Island! The current was a beast during this one, making finding good waves very challenging, but I managed one of my thicker barrels here in quite a while!
Looking like a few down days here for some much needed rest after I strained some muscles in my left leg. I'll see y'all next week, and go a little more in depth on what surfing those big swells is like here, and the challenges vs. rewards of pushing myself as hard as I do on those days.

Michael Harris that’s one video I actually don’t plan on doing. With surf forecast sites now days, the map is almost completely drawn on where will be good... and crowds follow. It’s good to leave SOME info unpublicized, so that those who put in the extra time and effort to dial in specifics for a location, can reap the rewards of their extra efforts.

Yes i do! I use Adobe Premiere Pro, and have been since 2014 or so. Prior to that i used Final Cut Pro 7, and in the very beginning i used Windows Movie Maker (prior to getting a Mac and using iMovie). Thanks!

Wtf does doubled up mean?

jack strada when a wave coming in hits a sandbar that’s much shallower than required for the wave to break (waves require a water depth 1/2 their height to break) , it makes the wave grow in thickness (the lip) and thus it “doubles up” thicker and heavier than normal.

In this videos case... (I went and looked up the scene you were referencing) it was doubling up more than what is rideable, cause a single wave to have basically two Lips, and turning into a mess. Kind of hard to explain, easier to show by example.

Brett Barley Thanks. I’ve been surfing in Hawaii since 1 year old. Double ups are usually a good thing, but I know exactly what your talking about. We have a spot that breaks like that on a 1 foot deep lava shelf. Don’t fall. Anyway, sick video, epic waves, as good as any day over here this year.

jack strada ohhh ahaha ya well you know what a double up is then. So in this case it was long period swell hitting our outside bars, and then doubling up on itself and closing out as it hit the inside. Not the good kind of double up.

Hatteras is very overrated. ... always usually too wind blown, bordering on victory at sea.... the great majority of the East Coast faces bad winds most of the time. Ocean City, NJ, Bubba's in Hampton, NH, Devereux Beach. Marblehead, MA, Frisco & Pea Island, NC, all of Rhode Island, Long Island are some of the expceptions. Go south young man, to PR, South Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Soup Bowl, Northwest Africa, etc
