Hi John, It looks like you have her very nicely balanced there. Thank you for sharing it.

Very nice video. Good to know there is an alternative windvane and to the usual brand.

I have only just discovered your channel. Full of great ideas. I’m embarking on an Alberg 30 refit soon. Was wondering how you manage long passages with an outboard engine! Do you ever use it to motor long distances when becalmed? Cheers

I never used the side mounted outboard offshore even when totally becalmed because there is still some kind of swell present. I'm not going to say you can't. But, I have always enjoyed being becalmed and as soon as you crank the engines on, for me, the magic instantly evaporates. I have drifted for over 24 hours but normally a calm only lasts for 8-12 hours. There are exceptions of course but it's all part of sailing in a simple uncomplicated manner. Also, the Alberg 30 is a great boat and capable of taking you anywhere you want to go.

@@FarReachVoyages Thanks for the reply. I often come across comments saying you need a Diesel engine to do any kind of of-shore work with days worth of fuel. But I totally share your philosophy of simplicity. So it's great seeing an actual offshore sailor confirm the fact that you don't need to motor everywhere when there is no wind. Looking forward to more of your videos. Cheers from Canada!

Hi. I have a Triton 28 with a Cape Horn vane. How do you have the control lines attached to the tiller?
@FarReachVoyages3 жыл бұрын
Hi. My boat originally had wheel steering. I converted it to a tiller. But I kept the quadrant on the rudder post. I rigged the steering lines under the deck from the Cape Horn quadrant to the old wheel steering quadrant and up to the front of the cockpit well. Yves Gelinas encouraged me to do it that way and it has worked out very well. I lost a little space but not much. I don’t know if I would do it that way on a Triton. I might be inclined to rig it to the tiller in the same manner as Yves did on his Alberg 30 Jean du Sud. Here is a link to how I installed the Cape Horn on my boat. www.farreachvoyages.com/projects/capehornwindvane.html

Just love watching this sailboat with that windvane. Please, record 12 hours of it with all that natural sound and just let it run. In fact, record it all if you have the memory cards, and post it as a continuous video. Why not? No editing required. All you need is the memory card and time to upload??

I never tire of watching the vane do it's thing. But I believe you and I are in the minority. 😆
