Thanks mate, slowly sharpening up the editing skills. Just need to keep getting the mad content and try and do it some justice at the edit phase.

Great video mate and awesome queeny too! How deep were you when you caught it? Also the fish at 30:00 is actually a blue throat wrasse 👍
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, Blue Morwong was a bucket list fish for me so I was very happy to catch that and even happier to see it swim off. Yea cheers for the heads up on the Blue Throat Wrasse, they're also known by many other names including Blue Throat Parrot Fish. Its cool fishing that depth as there's many different species that we don't usually encounter. We fished between 40-60m for most of that session and we found the Morwong in about 55-60m over broken rubble type ground 😎.

That’ was awesome 😁 Well worth the wait 🤓 You have no idea how happy I am to see regular folk catching fish on slow pitch jigs. I’m new to this whole boat thing (I’m into it in a big way now mind you 😂) and I’ve been dying to try this slow pitch stuff. I’ve bought a shed load of jigs but I’m still getting used to the whole boating thing and haven’t used em yet. I was down where you caught the Mowie just a week before you. I stopped somewhere near there to watch a whale. Anyway, great work guys 👍 Love the vids and can’t wait to do a bit of similar fishing myself 👍👍 Ps how awesome are dolphins. I’ve had em surfing the bow each and every time I’ve been out in the boat. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of em 😁👍
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
Hey Mick thanks mate. Yea slow pitch Jigging is very effective especially in conditions like this with a light breeze and minimal tidal movement allowing us to stay fairly vertical with our jigs, definitely give it a crack. We thought we might see some whales on this day as well but only dolphins, we did mark a big shark at one stage which we were happy to drive away from. The dolphins down here are very playful, we also always get them riding the bow and yep never get tired of interacting with them. Glad you enjoyed the vid and hope you find a few on the jig soon 🙂🍻.
@micknoname64664 жыл бұрын
Staunch Pirate Productions I’m itching to get out there. I’m glad you mentioned the tidal flow. That’s the biggest thing I’m struggling to get my head around. So you’d kinda fish for squid or, when they’re around, troll or chuck lures at tuna when there’s a lot of flow? Then make sure you’re near your reef / good bottom marks as the tide gets closer to the turn?
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
@@micknoname6466 yea mate it can take a bit to work out, we're still dialling it in as we get more experience in the area. I haven't fished Cape Jervis on a big tide yet but I'd say that's a solid plan. I'd be trying to fish the bottom either side of a tide change when there's minimal water movement as it's easier to get to the bottom. When the tides really moving that's the perfect time to do some trolling and look for bait schools and tuna during summer. We also find the tuna feed better on the surface either side of a tide change as the bait seem to move up in the water column when there's less flow. This gives you a chance to throw lures at them and is an awesome visual way to target tuna. So trolling and searching/sounding during heavy flows and then Jigging or casting either side or just before the tide change when there's minimal flow. That's what's worked for us anyway.
@micknoname64664 жыл бұрын
Staunch Pirate Productions Awesome 👍 The tuna are the main reason I bought a bloody big boat 😁 Bought a 3.7m tinny in December. Then started catching fish. Got some rat kings (where you got smoked), some nice Snapper at Port Augusta and then a fantastic Tuna off of Victor and I thought “Shit, I need more of this in my life” and so bought a 7m plate boat 😂
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
@@micknoname6466 haha nice one mate. 7m of platey will be perfect for getting out there and chasing the tuna. From what I've seen and heard late November they'll start showing up again and by Christmas they should have settled in locally for a couple of months. Can't wait, hopefully see you out there somewhere 😎🍻.

Hey, I notice that you have an Minn Kota on your bow. Is there any reason why you don't use that to either "spot lock" or slow your drift rate? I used mine at the Cape on Sunday keeping us right on top of the fish. Best thing money can buy on a boat. Cheers
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yea the Minn Kota is a great addition to the boat and definitely helps to keep ontop of thr fish. We were trying to cover as much new ground as possible on this trip as it was all exploratory to us having never fished out that way before. Now we've got some marks to return to once we find the fish we will definitely spot lock ontop of them and give the area a good work over. Hope you got a few on your recent trip, any Nannys?
@bakes4024 жыл бұрын
@@staunchpirateproductions3919 That makes sense...we didn't find any nannys but nearly got our whiting - a few short. Must have caught more than 80 typical reefies. Lots of blue devils, small snapper, sergeant bakers, what we call "peter fish", a few wrasse , two big blue morwong and two lion fish. It was action aplenty.

Good day for it. Is that a Key West boat ? What's the size and engine combo ? It does ok off victor on the tuna, I see...
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yea its a Key West 189 FS which is basically 6m. Its power matched by Yamaha with a F130. Yep it was perfect for chasing tuna schools out off Victor last summer, cant wait for them to rock up again.

Hi guys Great videos, can i ask what electronics are you running?
@staunchpirateproductions39194 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeremy, mate I'm running a 10" Garmin GPSMAP Sounder with a GT 51 Transducer for shallow work and a Airmar 1kw Transducer when we head deeper. I just switch between transducers when I need to and often use both on the same trip. Eventually I'll get another Garmin screen and run one for maps and the other as the dedicated fish/structure finder so won't have to switch but for now it does the job 😎.
