He was rubbish.... so amateur and forced. The way he always sticks out his tongue is pathetic and that line you quote was a feeble attemp to get a laugh which simultaneously destroyed the seriousness of the situation and undermined the whole killing spree.

Following the "Friday the 13th" tradition, the first person on screen is usually gonna bite it. Drew was doomed the moment she picked up the phone. Clever casting, but her character was too naive to live.

So, Drew Barrymore actually wanted to be casted as the first victim. Her name was all over the posters and her face front and center. People expected her to have a bigger role in the film, so her death came out of nowhere and showed that no one was safe in the film. Great reaction.

@@Joker_JAK They wanted to cast her as the star, but after she read the script, she asked to be the first victim. @@Thomas-no9wy Yeah. You are incorrect. She was cast as Sidney. She did much of the promotional material because she was the star of the film. 2 weeks before filming began, she changed her mind and said she'd rather play Casey. The irony is that Scream was itself a homage to Halloween, which inspired the entire slasher film genre. So many films afterwards tried to be like Halloween - Friday the 13th, My Bloody Valentine, Prom Night - until the genre burned itself out by the end of the 1980s, including the Halloween sequels. But then when the Scream copycats started coming out, like Urban Legend and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the Halloween H20 reboot also copied Scream, which was ironic.

"Are they allowed to reference...", that's kinda the whole point of this movie. This movie works on its own, but you miss out on the meta horror aspect if you haven't seen the movies it's referencing. At least Halloween, Friday the 13th, and a Nightmare on Elm Street should be watched. Also, Drew Barrymore, who is the first one killed, was mostly known as the cute child actor in ET. Seeing her brutally killed in this movie was unexpected to say the least. In a way you can say the movie Psycho inspired that casting choice and her character's fate.

Wes Craven has two sleeper horror-fun films from the earlyish 90s you’d enjoy; Shocker (1989) and The People Under The Stairs (1991).

Thank you for the continued great reactions! Check out "Cabin in the Woods" for another horror movie that is self aware, and amazing!

The Scream movies are all good. But there is ONE more self-aware horror movie - the Cabin in the Woods.

As much as I love the first two Scary Movie's. I was only 11 when things first came out so my peers and I never realized that this is the truest satire of the Slasher genre. And thus I dub this movie the most 90's movie of the 90's. And the fact that this was practically the follow up to Freddy's New Nightmare. The previous 90's Meta king.

Yes! Exactly! So glad you understood and appreciated the satire and intelligence of this movie (and the amazing horror movie references). I think it is so underrated and I love all the movies (never seen the TV series) so definitely check them out.
