If you notice, Ripley and the Queen came to an understanding, but then the Queen tried to be sneaky by opening one of her eggs behind Ripley, who saw it and gave the, "Really?" look to the Queen and THEN flamed her eggs. Hehe.
@gryffen9608
@gryffen9608 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I don't know why, but most people miss this. Sigourney Weaver nailed this scene in particular. You can tell Ripley just wants to get out of there. They really did come to a "mother to mother" understanding, which is why she was slowly backing up. This scene is also there to show you that the xenomorphs aren't 'just animals.' While they may be like bees in some regards, they're not just living and colonizing. They're willfully malicious. The queen just 'had to' open up that eggsack, certain Ripley wouldn't notice it happened. And yes, just like you said, Ripley gave the disgusted, " ... really?!" reaction. Only one response at that point. They would have come for Ripley and Newt anyway.

@@Biggiiful Hello there. There's nothing wrong in missing something, then having someone else point it out later. It's one of the strange gifts that comes with being a person, we each have our own perspective. Each has something to give. To me, that small scene is a great demonstration of how the only logical response to the aliens is extermination. Well, running away until you can get the ability to exterminate is also an option, but you get the point. They're not like bees. They don't contribute to the environment. They're not like sharks that only cull the herd. They're malicious, insatiable swarms. They don't have the intelligence to create a society or use tool, but they know what they're doing and they like it. Thanks again for the approval and the comment. Good journey to you.

The Nostromo was detoured to the planet in the first movie because of an obscure clause in their contract with Weyland Yutani. The crew were essentially interstellar long-haul truckers BUT...the corporation put it in their contract that they could be diverted to investigate signs of life/civilizations should a signal be intercepted. It was an obscure clause but obviously important to the soulless bastards at Weyland Yutani since they deemed the crew expendable in such cases. They had no training in such things but they had to do as WY told them in order to earn their paycheck.
@courtneyvaldez7903
@courtneyvaldez7903 3 жыл бұрын
I think the idea of being diverted calls back to certain maritime rules (I think...) which are common in science fiction that has space travel. Essentially, you are obligated by international/intergalactic law to investigate any distress signal because you may be the only ship capable of helping-the ocean/space is massive and very difficult to navigate. Weyland-Yutani obviously also had ulterior motives, because they’re the bad guys, but the basic concept it’s based on isn’t inherently rooted in corporate greed. It’s something the company can easily use as an excuse in the situation, but has legitimate and necessary applications.
@SpearM3064
@SpearM3064 3 жыл бұрын
@Pixelologist Actually, Courtney is right. The "obscure clause" is based on _real-world_ maritime law. Under maritime law and tradition, ships have a _legal_ and _moral_ obligation to help distressed seafarers. In a recent incident, a Princess Cruise ship failed to help three fishermen, and two of the fishermen died as a result. The captain is now serving prison time for failing to respond, and the Princess Cruise line was forced to pay fines. The Nostromo was morally and legally _required_ by law to respond to the "distress call". Where Weyland-Yutani comes into the picture is that they _knew_ it was some sort of warning beacon, not a distress call.

William Manchester, one of the great American historians, served with the First Marine Division in WWll. When he was in old age, for some reason, he started having his war nightmares again. Nothing stopped them. So he decided the only way to get rid of that awful darkness was to go back and visit every island in the Pacific he fought on. One night, when his island guides had taken him to an area he was sure he’d dug a foxhole in back in 1942, he dug a foxhole again as an old man and got in it to sleep. He woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t remember if he was an old man revisiting his trauma, or a young Marine dreaming he was old and survived. The book was titled “Goodbye Darkness” and is one of the best WWll memoirs I’ve ever read.

Coincidentally, the loader that Ripley used was a full-scale costume built around stuntman John Lees, who was concealed inside, immediately behind Sigourney Weaver. It weighed around 600 lbs and included hidden counterweights to help balance it, and _still_ had to be either suspended from wires (concealed within the radio antennae on the suit's shoulders) or mounted on a counterbalanced crane for filming. It featured electrically operated claws; the various hydraulic systems were cosmetic only. It was supposed to be four-legged (and in the novelization, it is) but James Cameron was worried that it would look too similar to the AT-AT from Star Wars, so it was redesigned to be bipedal. In 2018, Hacksmith Industries built a real, _working_ power loader, but it uses a tracked chassis instead of legs. This is for safety reasons, as legs are too unstable and "fail dangerously," which could injure or kill the operator if the hydraulics lose pressure or if it simply loses its balance.
@kellyhoward6941
@kellyhoward6941 2 жыл бұрын
I remember reading not long after the movie came out that the loader was just an actual piece of working tech, jazzed up a little to look SF-ey. But I've also read for years that bipedal robots remain a pipe dream so far, so always wondered about that tidbit about Ripley's loader. Thanks for the info!

What I like about james cameron's vision for aliens, is that he expanded on the nature of the xenomorphs. When a xenomorph is alone, it behaves like a lone wolf in the wild, but when they are in a pack (or hive) they behave differently. It is very 'believe-able', and expands the story of the Aliens themselves.

Carrie Henn, who played Newt said that as they were going to film the "Water" scene the next morning, the Assistant Director had the water warmed. Carrie said in the morning the water was too hot so her and the "Alien" sat on the edge bathing their feet in the water till it cooled down a bit. Pity there's no picture of that eh. Carrie Henn gave up acting and became a School Teacher. Maybe she taught Aliens to be nice people. 😂

"Is it weird that something about Vasquez is working for me?" Be much weirder if it didn't. Vasquez has been turning heads for thirty five years. Janet Goldstein spars with Brian Blessed, F. Lee Ermey, Jet Li, and Chuck Norris. The mere sight of Vasquez has been known to turn gay men straight and straight gals gay. Between Vasquez and Ripley, twelve years olds boys came outta theaters with full beards. Ms. Goldstein auditioned thinking this was gonna be a film about migrant workers. When he finally stopped laughing, Cameron wrote "Vasquez" into the script.

Speaking of James Cameron, just letting you know that there are three versions of Terminator 2: theatrical, special, & extended. Only the first two have the official ending. Hence, stay away from the extended cut.

Please react to Alien 3. A lot of people don’t like it because of how dark it is, but I personally think it’s an underrated masterpiece. You have to watch the Assembly Cut, though. Not only is it way better, but it’s closer to the film that the director David Fincher originally wanted to make. The theatrical version is still watchable, but it’s completely butchered and botched.

The crew of the Nostromo didn't have a choice but to investigate the source of the beacon, it was written in their contract. They were nowhere near confident about investigating it that's why Parker was so freaked out and why Lambert was so jumpy.

I’d say they are all worth a look if you care to see them out of curiosity and interest in filmmaking, but only if you are the kind of person who can keep your own head canon and ignore stuff you don’t like, cause yeah, for me this film was effectively the end. 😉

Vazquez rocks. She works for me as well. The whole Ripley/Sarah Connor/Vazquez strong woman thing is great and needs to be done more. And, by the way, the actress who plays Vazquez (who is Brazilian/Jewish I think) also played the step-mother in Terminator 2. So she is one of a handful of actors to be in both Terminator and Alien movies. This was one of my mother's favorite movies. I love it too and think it is the best of the franchise. I know many people like the first one best but it was disappointing to me, maybe because it was hyped at the time so much. The third I think is underrated, but it is dark...very dark. So if you liked the happy ending here, you may not like the third. The prequels are not very good (I have seen the first two) but I kind of like the backstory. So I tolerate them. SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T WATCHED IT...stop here if you haven't watched it. You say you hate Burke early on. Well by the end even the actor's own mother cheered when his character died.
