I first saw this movie when I think I was six. I'd snuck downstairs late one night, like you do when you are that age because you KNOW all the best TV is on late at night when you're supposed to be asleep, I mean that was just logic. So, I flip on the TV and there is a movie on, it's clearly sci-fi and has these cool looking soldiers, with big guns and this is just the kind of thing I'm crazy about. But this ain't Star Wars, which is the kind of sci-fi I loved, this is all spooky AF, but I'm sticking with it, because cool soldiers with big guns. Then they got to the Atmosphere Processer... Then the chest burster scene and then the monsters start boiling out of the walls. I slammed off the TV so fast and bolted back to my room, hunkered down under my covers and didn't sleep at all that night, or the next one or for the next month. I spent every night, for that following month, seeing xenomorphs at my window, or crawling across my ceiling. They haunted my dreams when I did sleep. It would be almost a decade before I actually saw the whole movie, right the way through and I can't tell you how cathartic it was, watching Ripley literally bitch-slap the monster from my childhood nightmares, in the face with a walking forklift, before blowing it into space.

Fun fact, in the Special Edition of the film there was a scene just before Ripley finds Newt in the hive where she finds a cocooned Burke. Had a blast watching you three react to this one! I got to see it for the 1st time in 1987 (on VHS videotape)- I was 16 when it came out in 1986- too young for an R rated film. I still love the 1st Alien film the most for its classic horror, but the sequel is a fun ride. Over the years at conventions I've met four of the actors- Hicks, Dietrich (the female Marine who is the first to get grabbed by the Alien in the hive), Bishop the Android and Newt. The child actress who played Newt had never acted in a film before, and never pursued a career in acting after- she became a teacher instead. Hope you continue the series- Alien 3 gets a lot of flak, but I liked it as it goes back to the horror/suspense roots of the 1st film. Someone already mentioned it, but try to watch the "Assembly Cut" edition. The original film was basically "rushed" and key scenes were cut, turning it into almost a different film at times.

I think Burke probably was abandoning the soldiers since he knew they wanted him to die also, though he would have had more chance with the humans than with the xenomorphs. But, he inadvertently prevented the aliens' pincer tactic since they were cutting off their escape route.

Her nightmares remind me of William Manchester’s book Goodbye, Darkness. He was a Marine in WWll and for some reason, when he was an old man, he started having the same nightmares he did right after the war ended. He had a bad heart and knew the terrible darkness of his memories/nightmares had to be dealt with. So he decided to go back to the Pacific; to the islands he and his fellow Marines had fought on. One of the eeriest moments was when he and his guides went back to a spot in the jungle he’d dug a foxhole in decades before, so he dug one again and fell asleep in it. He woke during the night and didn’t know if he was really an old man now, or still a young Marine, dreaming he was old. Then he went home and wrote about it. The nightmares stopped.

In the uncut they showed Ripley a picture of her daughter, after telling her she passed away. It was so weird and sad, because Ripley was in the pod for so long, she was younger than her daughter. Ripley was written and acted so perfectly, and ahead of the time for especially horror /action genre. A Strong woman, feminine not overpowering. Not weak or belittling to others. Wasnt afraid to show a real emotion, (fear) something anyone would be feeling. And didn't step on toes to be in charge or to show strength. Ripley ultimately became a hero, trying to get home, while saving mankind from a serious threat. I Love her character even after all these yrs later.

Ripley can't shoot the Queen on the ship because 1) the armory doesn't have a blast door to shut the Queen out, 2) the Queen could catch her before she could get to it because it's further away, 3) fatally shooting the Queen could spill enough blood to melt through the hull, and 4) those bullets are armor-piercing with explosive tips. If she misses even one shot, she could blow a hole in the fuselage of the ship and the explosive decompression could tear the ship in half. Guns on spaceships are not a good idea. That's why they use flamethrowers: they won't break or pierce critical systems.

Third Officer Ripley returns to life after Hypersleep with a bad case of PTSD from her Alien encounter. What will Weyland-Yutani make of her return? When I saw "Aliens" in the theater, I wondered how Ripley was able to "get close, quickly" to "Rebecca." A reviewer at the time said: "Sisterhood." I didn't buy that, and when I got the Special Edition Laserdisc (!) it was crystal celar that Ripley and Newt were connecting on a mother and child level. (Did female Marines Crowe, Ferro, or Vasquez connect with Newt?) What's so special about the missing footage? Here goes: The fate of Ripley's daughter, Amanda; Weyland-Yutani's ruling on Ripley; Hadley's Hope; Newt's prospector family; Hudson's macho rant; the Hamsters; Setting up the robot Sentry units; Extended "what's laying these eggs?" discussion; Robot Sentry Boogaloo; The "Dwayne" and "Ellen" exchange. The Loader was convincing enough for commercial companies to inquire about them, and the "APC" was a painted aircraft tow/tug. If you listen closely after the credit crawl, you will hear a "wet, slithering noise" going from left to right. Ripley's trip isn't over...yet. The "Alien" movies made Sigourney Weaver a movie star and the very definition of a Strong Female Character

'Why didn't you grab a gun"? The same reason why you don't open a window on an airplane...They're in a pressurized Space Ship... once the queen starts bleeding, it'll melt thru the ship and kill everybody
