@alucard6247 жыл бұрын
Chris felt the same way after the film was released. He was really disappointed it turned out the way it did. In his autobiography he's even quoted as saying, "The less said about Superman IV, the better." The fact that he was even doing the film is most likely the reason the majority of the cast from the first film came back, especially Gene Hackman, who had no desire to ever play Lex again thanks to how badly Donner was treated by the Salkinds during the whole Superman II fiasco. Same with Margot most likely.

Yeah that'd be cool. With today's special effects and with Christopher Reeve in it, it would have been a great film. But the plot with Nuclear Man was kind of dumb to begin with anyhow, I mean, sending Superman's hair into the sun and you get a fully developed supervillain, lol. Unfortunately the Superman films in general, even the Reeve ones, as much as I love them, are kind of B-flicks. Superman films need better story writers, better villains and shit like that. In most of the Reeve Superman films, he's just flying, posing and lifting heavy stuff. Marvel in general has done much better with the villains. Just compare Steppenwolf with Thanos as a case in point.

It's trendy to hate on this film, and while it's far from good, it's reputation as a "bad" film is totally overblown. There are many enjoyable scenes in the film and the cast is great. It's issues are in the structure and the poor visual FX, but honestly, the rest is perfectly entertaining, and the social commentary on media monopoly is an interesting sub-plot which is overlooked for the main anti-nuke one. Even if it was awful, it's ok to like a bad film, but Reeve, Hackman, Kidder and the rest of the cast prevent it from being that.

Chris was not only the Superman due to his performance but how passionately & seriously he took the role. Describing Superman as a world citizen, not just American propaganda is exactly what Superman is & should be. As stunning as the sfx are for the new movies by Zack Snyder & how they adapt the comic source material in terms of visuals & plots, I don’t think he gets it as much as Chris did in terms of the characterisation. Chris was so intertwined with that role. In that video you could see his leadership & passion with the staff & the film. Studio stopped Superman IV from flying higher than he could have.

Why did Christopher Reeve looked so SUPER in the REAL suit and now, every producer, director, and actor call it "the underwear suit"? Those are musclemen shorts from the times Superman was created 75 years ago. Dick Donner was the first to honor the creators, Shuster and Seigel, by crediting them and helping them gain back their rights on the Man Of Tomorrow. He also respected their view on the hero by suiting up the star as they saw him. Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve; the real ones! (Quit your job Zack Snyder)

Brava! Brava! Well said...2 years ago. Perfectly said--Donner and Manck and Reeve do great jobs of honoring the Superman of 1940 AND of 1967, and did right by the creators. Very well said. And blame Snyder for the shorts all you want. No one told him he could't add that permanent and iconic aspect of his outfit back in--the man just isn't very familiar with the character (few but Paul Levitz, Alan Moore, and Grant Morrison seem to understand who he is and why, as far as I can tell), just like DC often isn't. THEY thought Superman had become a worthless property by 1989, as it happens. So...some exec thought it was a good idea to lose the shorts on paper, and that gets Snyder off the hook for that...among 50 worse things? Please. Fire Snyder. Bring back someone who's studied Reeve and can where polyurethane. Then send him running across the street, changing posture as he pulls his shirt open...(and the Williams theme breaks into full stride). And don't forget our man is exceptionally smart. ...Anyway, that's how you make a Superman film. It's been 39 years, maybe someone should give that version another shot, hm??

If you take out the nuclear man element then I think it could have really been a good movie most more focus on the nuclear arms race and the decision Superman had to make whether or not to interfere or let the human race inevitably destroy themselves. In my opinion it's only the nuclear man plot of the movie that brings it down, I think everything else is awesome, if the story focused more on Superman having to deal with a real-world issue and the inner conflict from the Kryptonian council telling him not to get involved and his heart telling him that right thing to do is intervene, and more so the government's reaction to him getting involved and the people's reaction to him not getting involved at first, and that Superman isn't just an American hero but a hero of the entire world and all races, and if it should and you want to find world and the end of it that would have been the cherry on top.

Superman 3 was way better than 4 in fact I think 3 is a little underrated.

So sad, right at the end he says "if we get it right, and I think we are, it will be the best of the Superman movies" which of course we now know its not, poor Chris 🙄

BUT THE QUESTION IS WHO WAS IT THAT WROTE THE FILM NOT WHO DIRECTED IT. BECAUSE IF THE FILM IS BORING NOBODY'S GOING TO LIKE IT NO MATTER WHO DIRECTS IT

After watching this interview I need to say 2 things. 1st, I always figured that the only reason Reeve did S4 was simply so Cannon would produce his other project "Street Smart". But I can see here that he really did have a genuine passion to do this. 2nd, he was right when he said 4 would be the best in the series. When I think of all the feats they tried to accomplish in the film, had the budget been right, S4 would've been IMO, the best and most entertaining film in the entire reeve series.

People need to realize that Superman is not a dark character, he is optimistic and colourful and full of life. This movie had an optimistic message, therefore in my book it’s Superman! Sorry Zach Snyder

I feel bad for Christopher Reeve because he wanted this to be the best of the series and it could have been if he wasn't the only serious actor in the film I also believe if nuclear man was less cheesy the he could have been up there with other great villains like Zod or the joker and also could have appeared in many more movies and also comics.

Its a pity it didn't turn out the way he had hoped. Reeves was so likeable and sincere, but sadly the movie was a career killer.

watching a little behind the scenes I realized that there was a bit of an alter ego between Christopher Reeve and Mark Pilow, I saw a statement from him saying that it's not easy to work with Reeve, something like that!

Chris Reeve and his message to the world to have peace, is the movies important part. The story could be more realistic, but the quest for peace will live on.

I got to meet Christopher Reeve in 1981, learn about the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, he should be a hero as Superman, and also, he won't be riding horses within the year, he's allergic, then I will write a warning letter, that he will help the Team USA and play Men's Soccer ball games in 1994, and compete in the Summer Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta.

All this talented man wanted was to be a serious and respected actor and unfortunately the fickle public dismiss him in any post SM effort. He really was underrated and the Fates threw him a shitty hand as a reward to all the joy he brought people.

Superman 4 is put down a lot, but honestly growing up that was my 2nd favorite superman. Superman 2 was my favorite...4 was my 2nd.....as a kid i found superman 1 boring, and i knew 3 wasn't good, but i liked a few good moments of 3. Bad superman vs good superman was a great scene. And I was scared of that old lady turning into a robot as a kid. edit: But superman 4....i was so sad to see Superman get scratched on the next and get weak. He was my hero and to see him get hurt really bothered me...that scene and bar scene in superman 2 where clark gets beat up would make me sad as a kid. So happy to see superman come back at the end of superman 2 and put that guy in his place. haha

This’ll sound corner because yes as an adult I can see the many issues this film had but as a child it was my first superhero movie I watched and boy did I watch it, over and over. I loved superman so much and as a child the effects etc were not bad they were amazing. It was superman 4 that encouraged me to watch 1,2 and 3. And to this day Chris Reeves, Richard Donner and the superman characters are still so special to me. So for me even though the movie wasn’t what it should be I’m grateful for it for giving me 25+ years of believing in what superman stood for.

Of all the 4 movies, this one ranked last in my opinion. You obviously see the difference in quality from the 3 previous films (especially Superman I and II. They were better in screen quality). Now looking at the comments, this film did not receive a full budget and it shows. But in spite of this, I liked seeing Chris play the role one more time. He is still my favorite Superman actor.
