the water table in a deposit of sand 7 m thick is at a depth of 3.5 m below the surface. above water table, the sand is saturated with capillary water. the bulk density of sand is 20 kn/m³. calculate the effective pressure at 0.5 m, m and 7 m. also plot the variation of total pressure, pore water pressure and effective pressure over the depth of 7 m.

sir while calculating at B -B Shouldn’t we consider top layer and bottom layer. top layer effective stress will be 34 and bottom layer will be 53.62. in the diagram there will be positive stress while drawing effective curve graph.

Bro at depth1m pore pressure water =rw×hw(water table)not height value..

At layer b only one pore water pressure developed or two.. as top is 0 and bottom as -19.62.

Sir due to capillary rise there will be some saturation attained so particularly why u have taken dry unit wt in zone of capillarity if it would 21 be as I had taken then it can be 100percent saturated which can right or not?

yes, you are right, but in question, it didn't mention that given unit weight is dry or saturated, It has given that Unit weight, above the water table is 17km/m3, that why we didn't calculate saturated unit weight separately. Thanks

I have denoted Hc means Height of capillarity. It will affect the pore pressure at B negatively

No, because at C-C height of capillarity is zero.
