You have explained a concept in 12 minutes that I was not confident on after a year of lectures 👏🏿. Maybe I just finally have the passion to learn the topic. KZbin videos have always helped me to get the highest marks, I was foolish to depend on classrooms and lecture notes alone, I just don't learn that way.

The effective stress diagram is the subtraction of total stress diagram by the water pressure diagram. The bottom of the total stress is reduced by 60kPa to get the effective stress at bottom point.

Question: what if the area above the water table has a moisture content of say 15% - do we use dry unit weight or total unit weight in our calculation?

Thanks. But at 3-3; why use 169 instead of 139.6 since that is the resultant stress?
@millpath3 жыл бұрын
He used 169 because when he calculated pore water pressure for 4-4, he used H=6ft. He can also use 139.6 like you said, but H must be = 3ft when calculate for pore water pressure

I think Similar procedure...but you'll use dry unit weight in your computations... Pore water pressure will be zero( since there's no water)
