Hello people.
Thanks for dropping by.
This is an innovation by a student in Jkuat and involves an irrigation system called the Capillary Wick Irrigation System (CWS) which is a sub-irrigation system that involves the use of a device that delivers water by capillary movement from a reservoir to the plant growing medium. Sub-irrigation systems save on labor, time and water costs compared to conventional watering systems
Larrywick Consultancy
Plants that are grown in pots are more economical and efficient than overhead irrigation systems. Capillary Wick Irrigation System is suitable for greenhouse production to increase efficiency of water and nutrient use in production of crop plants. The system results in higher quality produce, there is reduced water loss as there is no runoff, reduced labor costs, reduced incidences of diseases among other advantages such as saving on time and operational costs. This innovative method is also easy and cheap to install and operate and thus suitable for small scale farmers in Kenya.

Hi learned kenyans. Thanks for sharing this video about the capillary wick irrigation. I have a farm in a low flat area located in a region that is usually dry but it floods sometimes in May when there's too much rain. It floods about 85% of the 1 acre farm. I would like to somehow harvest this flood water so that i can use it in the dry months for irrigation instead of just letting it flood the farm then flow away....also creating erosion which diminishes the quality of soil.. I have seen some thing about digging spiral 'streams' in the farm but eventually with this system, the water still drains off. I am also reading about building a retention pond... Do you have any ideas that can be useful in my circumstance? Thanks!
