Thanks for the video! I had a question about this technique for a couple of weeks. Because of the world's current state, ive been self teaching basic moves with the help of youtube. When it comes to Esquiva de frente, i see there are 2 common ways people do it, one is how you demonstrate it in this video, and the other is with the free hand placed on the floor. The second way is definitely a lot harder and i was wondering if one way was correct over the other, or if they're interchangeable. Thank you in advance and stay safe!

I am glad that you appreciate the content and taking your time to ask a question. I am very honoured. Esquiva de frente is when your hand is off the floor and both knees are at approximately 90 degrees. It is a quick move intended to escape an attack and to quickly counter-attack. Descida basica (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b324q4yHrbFjZ68) is when your hand is on the floor, when your back leg is stretched out to the back and front knee is at approximately 90 degrees. It is generally a lower position with different application and balance. It is a more of a transitional move that can also be utilized as an escape. However, in different capoeira schools these two moves are called the same name. May be that is where the lack of clarity comes from. In my opinion, what should matter is the biomechanics and effectiveness of the moves, rather than the right and wrong.

Thank you so much for the response and clarification! It makes a lot more sense to me now. It was seeming to me that they were variations of the same move, but i see now they're 2 seperate moves that look somewhat similar. This definitely helped out so much and i appreciate you taking the time out to respond!
