This happens a lot where I live in the Black Country, (only in less salubrious surroundings of course!). In fact my house was built on top of a capped mineshaft. That's great if you know where the workings are situated. The problem is not all shafts and tunnels were correctly or completely mapped. For instance, in my town of Coseley, around twenty odd years ago, a row of houses were abandoned and then demolished as they had sank into the ground due to subsidence. Then there is a local pub, aptly named the Crooked House, which despite *severe* subsidence remains a fully operational pub and restaurant. My sister had her wedding reception there.

I'm from the blackcountry as well I also live on an old coal mine called lyde green colliery or lyde field colliery but no sign of us sinking into the abyss yet 😁🤞, I know the crooked house as well it's the only pub you walk in drunk and walk out sober. About 5 minutes away from my flat is new hawne colliery which has been left untouched since 1926 when it shut after the miners strike which is interesting to explore I think theres some videos of people exploring it as well on here

Idk where is classed as the black country, but im from tyldesley and we have maybe 6 old capped shafts within a mile from our house. Was walking in the woods a few years ago near astley green colliery and found one of the old coal bunkers was open up there

@@Brucie7702 The Black Country is the area to the north-west of Birmingham...containing old industrial towns like Dudley, Walsall and West Bromwich. These areas were heavily mined in the 18th/19th and early 20th century. Yeah we have the same problem here too...the ground opens up at random, houses have been known to sink into the ground. I've included a link to The Crooked House which is a fully operational pub that's local to me...it's been subsiding for years and has been heavily buttressed to save it. Marbles seem to roll up the bar. Glasses seem to slide around of their own accord. Best thing is that you feel drunk in there before you even had a drink lol... images.app.goo.gl/kcCLaVEyJVR8VX8o9

Those snot icicles usually indicate sulphur compounds and foul air. And they sting like fury if they get in your eyes. A grid on top would have helped air movement.

Oxygen monitor beeping like crazy. Was it hydrogen sulfide down there or what? The video showed a couple ways to go but didn't seem to show the ends unless I just missed it. How far did the branches go before ending? Just curious. Would be cool to see the full length video without the sped up video. We do like long explores.

It's an old Tin Mine, there are no need for canaries in these mines,
@aricooper-davis3605
@aricooper-davis3605 3 жыл бұрын
@@BillSikes. no need for canaries, but it's not unusual for CO2 to build up as organic matter decays, and often when the pumps stop the rising water level cuts off adits that would have provided some air flow leaving it pretty stagnant.

A mine shaft collapsed a few years ago nere my house, there was nothing to say there was a mine shaft there. Juts grass on a football pitch!! I couldn't believe there was a 500-foot hole directly underneath the grass i play football on. Apparently that was "capped" but there was nothing on ground level indicating a shaft. Its like nobody knew it was there.

How long did you spend down there, did you find any other capped shafts and did you explore alll of it or were you stopped by blockages or time restraint? It looked untouched for a very long time. Chris

keir barber radon may have built up in the shaft, it would have dissipated before anyone went in. The gas meter you hear is for low oxygen, it alarms at lower than normal levels but that is not necessarily dangerous.

It depends on lots of factors, where water level is, how big the shaft is, how much superficial material there is. There are 2 generally used designs in Cornwall. The Kerrier Plug and the Kerrier Slab. You choose one, depending on several factors. There are a load of other more exotic designs (in publications) which allow various other criteria (access, etc) to be factored in. If it's a plain shaft by itself, happy days, if it's also within workings, that can be a lot more expensive. Presumably you have a drilling investigation report on the shaft. If you don't it's all fine.

Martin Leach the steel is there to hold the wet concrete which is a plug shape, the set concrete cant fall down the shaft.

@@xXtuscanator22Xx That's not what I said. Read me. I just mean a more reasonable lighting, that is, one that is not concentrated on one single spot. No need for a 4k equipment blabla. Don't ridicule me.

@carstenspanheimer8550 4 жыл бұрын
Let me be clear: The camera is fine, but the lighting does not fill the field of view, which is a pity, since it could be better with not much effort. Just carry an additional wide-angle lamp. But nevertheless, it is an interesting adventure. Maybe you can show some more of the cruxes on the way.
