I can’t begin to thank you enough for this. Clarence Woo was my great grandfather. The Capri Market runs deep in my blood so does Chopsticks in Roseville CA. I will never forget my childhood around my family & the Woo brothers. The last time I had stepped foot in Capri Market it was a furniture store..

Thank you so much for this trip down memory lane. Kevin Woo was my best friend in 3rd grade (Pershing), and I spent many hours at Capri growing up and this video brought it all rushing back. Thanks again and thank you to the Woo family. Such great people.

Thank you, BJ & Cindy! I grew up in OV from 4th grade at Central School in 1959 through graduation from Bella Vista High School in 1968. Like you, BJ, I remember the original Public Market that sat close to the Northeast corner of Greenback Lane and Hazel Ave. I was thrilled when the new Capri Market was constructed. Architecturally designed as the perfect 1960s-era store, I felt like Orangevale had graduated to a more cosmopolitan community with this new modern upscale center of commerce! I took accordion lessons at Mingo's Music Store in the Capri complex. I was hired by the Woo Brothers and worked at Capri as a bagger for a total of 2 days before Frank fired me for incompetence! Never mind that I wasn't trained. I harbored bad feelings toward the Woo brothers for the unfairness I experienced. Thankfully, that was the only time I was fired from a job.

I LOVE your Folsom videos, I’m going to comment on a few, thank you SO MUCH for taking, preserving, and sharing your videos, I love reminiscing and “stepping back in time”. I lived in Folsom from 1978 till 1983, and lived in this area my whole life, your video’s have brought me much joy since I found your channel….thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU. I worked at Kurtz & Finan NAPA Auto Parts at GB & Main from 1978 till 1984, first as a parts runner, then as a parts counterman. The office ladies would send me to Capri Market to buy supplies (coffee, sugar, bathroom cleaner, whatever), all the usual things a business needs. While I did not know the Woo family like you obviously did, I fondly remember them being kind. I also remember trying to buy beer at Capri before we were 21, I can’t remember how many times it worked, or didn’t work, but I do remember when it didn’t work we would go across the street to Orangevale Liquor and ask people to buy us beer…lol. And you mention George’s Fruit Stand, I worked right across the street so we went there often, and also going to Wild Sports.

This is great. Our family was friends with Albert and Carol Woo. I went to school with their kids Kevin and Colleen. Wayne Woo was just a little guy back then and now he’s Placer county sheriff haha. Henry lived on the street behind me. The Woos were legend in Orangevale. Thanks for posting. Many memories.

I am so happy to have seen this. My son forwarded it to me. My association with the story is basically to Donna McDaniel Woo and my fathers participation in the construction of the Capri Market. At the end of the war my Mother and I lived on a ranch in Greenwood, up in the foot hills. The McDaniels lived across the road from us. I remember Donna when I was probably 3 or 4 years old when my family visited them. Anyway after we moved I guess we lost contact. Later apparently my father worked for one of the construction companies that was building the new market. I knew later that Donna had married one of the owners but was never able to get ahold of her since we didn't at that time have "the internet". I am so appreciated that you have done this record and I was able to see it. If Donna is still around and you are able please let her know that Teddy Ellis from years ago wishes her well.

Thank you so much for this. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes recalling all my memories of shopping at Capri. And of course the Woo family what an wonderful family. We were a young family and lived on Hazel (it was still 2 lane). We only had one car and of course my husband needed to get to work. I used to ride my horse with my 3 year old daughter up to Capri. She waited outside with the horse (looking back, probably not the smartest thing to do) and run in and pick up a couple items and ride back home. . Yes, Walmart is there now, but it will never come close to replacing Capri

Wow!! Another one with tears in my eyes. What a fabulous video. I lived on Woodward way the Field on the east end of Capri all the way to Pecan. Many times of playing “Combat” (Army tv program)in that field We moved here in 1958 my Dad was stationed at Mather AFB. We lived next door to Grant and Linda. They would remember me as the😂 5year old kid that painted the east end of their house, I really was trying it make it look better 😂 sorry! I would walk across the field to Capri and buy a RC cola with a twist, 15 cents for the soda 3 cent deposit and a box of Flicks 10 cents. All this for $.28!! Thank you for this trip down memory lane! Sad to see it go but time marches on.

Wonderful to look back on a landmark from back in the day. I grew up in o’vale in the 70’s-80’s and lived on Filbert Ave. Our family shopped at Capri market and remember it’s sad closing. I remember the family well and had one of the daughters in my class. Thanks for the look back!❤

Thank you for a wonderful video. Our family moved from the Bay Area in 1974 to Orangevale. Of course we shopped at Capri market. I forgot about the other businesses there until I saw your pictures. I remember we did test our TV tubes, what a blast from the past. I never knew any of the background of Woo family and the Public Market and how Capri came to be. Thank you for sharing that, and a walk down memory lane.

Grew up in Orangevale, lived on Chastain, Cone Lane, and spent lots of time at Central and Hazel,.. 👍😝 Capri Market was just shutting down about the time I moved away. Otherwise Capri e it was a constant fixtur. Helped my dad make repairs to the building and spent plenty of time shopping there as well in All in all the Woo's we're good people, they were definitely they were good for the community. 🌻😍 Orangeville was good to me over the years and still have friends in the area it was a real treat to see this video, Thank you for sharing all this good information

Our family moved to Orangevale in 1988. We never got to visit the store. Remember the pharmacy, liquor store, fabric store, and then thrift store. There was also a Kvar Karate.

The real shame in all of this, is there’s a WalMart parking lot where the original store stood. I grew up in Fair Oaks in the late 60s through the 70s, and Visited Capri market quite Regularly…

What a tear jerker. Willy Woo is my best friend and I had the pleasure of meeting his father Frank and Donna before his passing and the last of the brothers. I remember the store sitting there when I first moved to Sacramento area as a boy but never got to experience it in its prime, however the real enjoyment was getting to know "PapaWoo" and Donna. I remember going into the Yougurt shop on Douglas and Frank sitting there and he would alwsys ask " What he do again"? He was always smiling and in one way or another the Woo's have brought that smile to so many others. Great Video thank you so much!!!!..
