I wish Caprica got three seasons... They were setting up SO much backstory that the second season would have been epic.

Amazing the reaction some people are having in the comments. It was a great show, and the only reason it didn't 'tie up well' is because it was cancelled, and far too early at that. It was a little messy but I have no doubt a second season minimum would have been a great addition to the BSG universe. I loved how much more bold it was in its approach to philosophy, theology, and ethics. Nice video!

I watched it when it originally aired, and I've never forgotten it. I'm looking for the 4K Blu-Ray release that's never coming. If it ever does, I'm pre-ordering it. I should add/admit "Caprica" was my introduction to the "Battlestar Galactica" franchise. That may be why I like it so much. I didn't have the main series to compare it to.

The original series had corruption, prostitution (although seen as an acceptable career), black markets & starvation.

That is a great observation and a very good point. So in the end, all the Caprica series did was just show what we already knew about the original Battlestar universe but promptly forgot. It seems the original series wasn't so squeaky clean after all! 🙂

Gosh look at all the comments! When I stumbled across the Caprica miniseries I practically had to pick my jaw off the ground. I liked it's V-World and I wonder if it was part inspiration for "Ready Player One". I hope you do a review of "Blood and Chrome" at some point, now that was also a strange miniseries with it's unplesantness and PTSD.

I enjoyed Caprica, especially its art direction. That series actually wanted to make me want to visit Vancouver! But one thing I would like to have seen addressed eventually (and this is in my headcanon) is that sometime during the war, Adama is gravely injured resulting in getting blinded. The result of this is he has transplanted eyes. This is because in Caprica, Willie has brown eyes. In Blood and Chrome, Husker has brown eyes. In BSG though, Commander Adama has blue eyes. I know they did this to help match him with Jamie Campbell, but as an in-universe explanation I think it works!

Happens to so many shows that are just a bit more complicated than the average trash tv watcher can cope with. This was a fantastic series that could've built out the foundations of the whole BSG universe, but no patience from the networks. I'd include Rubicon as another amazing show that was killed off with just a single season for requiring the audience to be eased into the world they're viewing without being spoon-fed "bad guy there, get bad guy" type crap. We'd have never gotten Breaking Bad if this was every network all the time being this way with in-depth well thought out shows.
@BlackDoveNYC3 ай бұрын
I agree with you. I’m glad you mentioned ‘Rubicon’. As you stated these types of shows are not “easy” or simple and especially at that transitional time for basic cable television they were ahead of their time. I think both shows would have gotten at least another season or more in the current environment.

I think part of what tanked the show was the wildly varying genres and tones of the plot threads. It's as if the writers had lots of interesting ideas but couldn't decide which one to base the show on, so they tried to do a bit of everything, everywhere...all at once. The common elements between the otherwise separate threads don't quite stitch them together into a coherent show. Instead, it effectively ends up as separate shows in the same canonical universe with an occasional crossover. Even worse, jumping between the random threads so much in each episode made it feel like watching a soap opera, something that didn't really appeal to the wider audience the producers or network were hoping for. Rather than weaving the threads into part of a larger cohesive tapestry, the writers created a mismatched narrative patchwork. While I think they would have pulled all of the threads together eventually...somehow, thinking they were going to get multiple seasons to pull it off was naive. The BSG reboot series Caprica was based on was much better at handling multi-threaded plots. A series that was more adapt at spinning multiple threads in different genres was The Expanse. Unlike Caprica, The Expanse started pulling those threads together _long_ before the end of the season. By the end, you could see how all of the threads weave together, while glimpses of the edges teased at something even bigger. I watched the entire run of Caprica, hoping all of its interesting ideas would come together. Unfortunately, that never happened...and never will.

Caprica was an attempt to cash in on the reboot Galactica with a series that wouldn't have such an enormous FX budget. The problem was the story was weak and aimless. It hit the stage with great fanfare and then just sort of wandered off, long after I had stopped watching.

@kristinaF544 ай бұрын
Blood and Chrome (despite its mostly garbage-looking CGI) was a million times better than Craprica storywise and pacing. Unfortunately B&C wasn't spun-off into a series because they'd already put too much money into Craprica to afford it (which if you've heard the showrunners' interviews, Craprica initially had nothing to do with BSG; it was a standalone sci-fi concept series that they "tacked on" to the BSG universe to get it 'green lit' by the network).

It wasnt forgotten. I watched every episode. It just wasnt very good. Sure, it may be important in the mythos but It was incredibly slow paced and boring AF. It was an intentional deviation from the source material that honestly came WAY too soon after BSG ending. (good idea, awful execution) It was marketed way too close to BSG which was such an avoidable error because it was also built to be a demographic shift away from the war driven space opera which drove the predominantly male audience (I know I remember being made fun of by my ex for the whole "frackin" thing every time I dared to watch an episode) It was also a LOT heavier subject matter, delving into theology, philosophy, issues of the modern world from organized crime to same sex relations. It lost BSGs pacing and comparatively more simple premise. Space battles had nothing to do with it. You couple that with the emerging ramp up of woke ideology in tv/film, general audiences did not appreciate being preached to in that manner, (which is funny considering how on the nose the preaching was with its own actual religious revolution based plot.) So to try to play it off as people just not liking it because it wasnt action/sci-fiy enough is incredibly misguided or actively trying to ignore what actually happened during its run. Honestly, it was not forgotten. It was outright rejected. Back in an era where TV producers still cared about what general audiences want and dont.
