It's brilliant. They have gamified the clean up and billing process so the customer does the work. It's also salemanship since you will most likely eat a couple more plates to get to a multiple of 5 so can try again. The chance to win also acts a reward for eating 5 plates that is programmed into peoples base psyche.

I’m gonna say this rn, the capsule toy thing is actually so fucking smart. Normally, cleaning tables in restaurants is a bitch, but slotting in 5 plates in chances of winning a toy is not only entertaining for the customers, but it helps with cleanliness aswell. Plus, it also gets people to buy more too. So it’s a win-win situation for the customers entertainment and the restaurants cleanliness and money

I'm picturing how many toys they'd have to give away if a school baseball team stopped by there for either a celebratory or conciliatory dinner...and how that could motivate an otaku to sponsor a team. Simon and Martina Sorry I'm getting back to you months later. I was visiting California with my fam and my uncle decided to treat us to sushi so we decided why not go to a conveyer belt one with no capsule toy (sad) . (Might not be the best sushi but you could eat so much.) It was my two sisters and I and 3 of my cousins. My uncle said "eat as much as you want", which was a bad choice of words for him because we did. 70-80 plates worth, which costed him a bit. The servers that walked by stared at us like we were going to eat them clean. Which we could have if we brought my other cousins. But that pretty much sums it all up. Dang this is a long comment.

Tisha Someone I've been to many Kaiten (conveyer belt) Sushi restaurants while living in Japan so far (they cheap imo and even though Martina says its lower quality, it still better than what we have in the west). Usually, most plates are 100円 each, with others being 150円、200円、500円、etc。I usually spend about 1000円-1200円 each time I go. Thats around $9.00-10.00 USD. Still cheaper than the western style sushi here in America.
@EricLeePiano7 жыл бұрын
I usually spend $35 USD after tax+tip in America, eating ~12 plates by myself, it's so expensive here T.T so glad i'll have a layover in Haneda Airport so I can try their sushi-go-round there :D
@LoveNeko647 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm glad they don't count the type of sushi cause here in America certain sushi costs 4 dollars for two pieces.

There are kaiten here in the US, not many though. There are are a few in Texas that I frequent on business trips and they start at $2.25 a plate. Look up Kura/Kula in the Dallas area.
@Lilyium6 жыл бұрын
Gosh it's $3.50 AUD per plate here for ALL plates. So the high quality (eel, sashimi etc) you get less of, but the cheaper quality (egg, seaweed salad etc) you get more of. Still very expensive because I spend around $25-30 per visit...and it's not even that filling.

It's 5:30 in the morning, and I just had a thought of hey remember that sushi capsule video a few months ago? And I come to rewatch, it's been 3 YEARS. Exactly 3 years and 4 days. So much has changed and things are different. Eatyourkimchi podcast is now independent and in video form as Tokyo Tales, Martina's hair is silver. Simon got an emotional sleeve tattoo. Hundreds of dollars spent on a single fruit. Simon's parents visited, Simon and his dad went to Poland and Martina's kitchen garden has grown. We've been building a ladder together for over a year. Amazing. And it still cost 25 plates of sushi to get a gacha toy.

oh honey i couldve sworn after the two fancy shmancy omakase sushi vids that simon and martina have become experienced in the ways of sushi eating. tips for green(for wasabi?)horns: 1)dip the side of fish/ingredient rather than the rice into sou sauce. 2) depends on the restaurant, but some sushi places will actually include the recommended amount of wasabi for each piece of nigiri in between the ingredient and rice layers, ergo having "the optimal amount" of wasabi fro each bite, allowing for dippage into plain soysauce. just suggestions, much love
