I hate all the fear and hate-mongering towards the MCU right now. Just because there were some stinkers in the mix, doesn’t mean that everything is awful for the next film. Plus, it isn’t 100%Marvel’s fault that those projects were crappy, but rather also with Bob Chapek. Thanks for calling this type of BS out EA!

@matthewdegraw6947 15 күн бұрын
@ My brother in Christ. The only DEI bs that happened was Black Widow making Taskmaster into a woman who didn’t even have the power set of the actual character. Have you ever read a comic? From your comment, the answer is a resounding NO. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have both been Captain America for a length of time. Bucky took the mantle after the Death of Captain America run after the first Civil War. Sam took it on after Steve lost the abilities of the Super-Soldier Serum, and RAPIDLY AGED!! They adapted that story line, and, honestly, if you’re of the opinion that taking story beats from the comics is DEI, then you better stfu and talk to people who actually know the comics.

@@mattjvictory 1st, like I said in my original post, marvel does have some blame, but it is mostly the fault of Bob Chapek, as he is the one who wanted quantity over quality. Ever stop to wonder why we got over a dozen Marvel projects in just over a year after the worst of the pandemic was over? It’s because the CEO at the time was not interested in building franchises, but cheap cash grabs that may or may not have actually worked. Secondly, who was paying for it?! What argument is that? Just because Disney and Marvel are paying for it, doesn’t mean anything, man. It’s the creatives, and the oversight that is being shoved down their throats. Remember Spider-Man 2 and 3? Do you know why 3 was so bad?? STUDIO OVERSIGHT!! Thirdly, no, EA is not a Disney shill. He’s constantly calling them out and criticizing them and their failings. And he straight up has said in previous videos, that Marvel knows that it’s not going to break even. Marvel knows that they have spent way too much money for that to be possible for this film, but it is a story that needs to be told for the greater MCU. Lastly, dude, if you don’t like the MCU or Marvel content, why tf are you on this channel to begin with? Go do something with your life instead of being a miserable no-life on a channel that talks about something you don’t care about.

Since then there hasn't been a movie that resonated with the non-Marvel fans apart from Deadpool, but had more to do with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman teaming up than that it was Deadpool and Wolverine. There aren't a lot of people invested in a Mackie lead movie. Hell I doubt there would be a lot of interest even if it was still Chris Evans. The non-Marvel fans are just superhero movie tired. considering the movie prob needs around 900 million ish to break even its going to need heavy lift to make up the difference.. if the movie does not resonate with fans it will translate to lower sales of merch. No company is happy spending to 500 million ish at the box off to break even or lose money.

I’ll see this movie, but it’s hard for the general audience to be excited about a Captain America movie without Chris Evans. The falcon and the Winter soldier Disney+ show did not do any justice. I like Anthony Mackie but the betrayal is just not that engaging, plus I don’t like his suit. It sounds superficial, but we need superheroes to look cool too.

Its really ridiculous how all of this is turning out. 1. Streaming movies has killed the movie sensationalism and interest for people to leave their houses and go watch movies with friends, families, coworkers, dates, or even by themselves. 2. There are wayyyyyyy too many "critics" online that people are soaking up to whatever those people say or think about a movie before it has even been released. 3. Movie makers, story tellers, producers don't need to change the fundamentals of characters that are already established to pander to political agendas that may completely ditter fanatics of what they love. 4. Fans need to allow new ideas of characters to flourish as long as it doesn't change the fundamentals of what that characters role even if a new character is filling that role.

Doesn’t matter to me one bit how much it cost to make. What matters to me is whether it’s a good story and well made. Secret Invasion cost $250M+ and it was awful. Agatha All Along cost less than $50M and it was incredible, I rewatched it 3-4 times. Money spent doesn’t equal enjoyment factor or plot strength. I think we would all enjoy the movies more if we stopped caring so much about budgets and cared more about how the experience of watching them. .

Dude... Im sorry but your objectivity I think has been compromised here. The estimated budget, prior to marketing, is 350-375 million. You said, it doesn't need to do Endgame numbers on a film with a comparable, if not more than Endgame budget (the budget for Endgame is 356 million). They literally cannot afford for it to be not a billion because once it clears 350 mil budget, they need to bring in over 800 to 900 mil just to turn a profit. Box office revenue is not taken by studios 100 percent, there is a 40-50 percent split between studios and distributors (ie theaters). Given that the first Marvel movie to cross the Billion was Cap 3, the expectation is precisely it will break a billion. The fact is that the quality of MCU projects since Endgame has plummetted. When they make a good movie, it makes the billion or pretty damn close. The fact is that this movie has had multiple different test screenings that have had disastrous reports. Additionally, Sams tenure as Cap has not held audiences in the comics and the fact that people have cared more about f4, Superman and Thunderbolts than anything with this film shows its in bad shape and Marvel is doing everything it can to give it marketing legs it just doesnt have. The only way this does well is if it has positive word of mouth and given what weve heard from screenings, I very much doubt that it will.
@jeffreyfettes

I disagree. I think he got it exactly correct. Most of us know very little about the movie business, especially on the scale that Disney operates. “Common sense” might suggest that their primary objective should be turning in films at a low budget, controlling marketing spend, and then turning a profit in theaters. So why don’t they do that? It’s because those who are in the IP business know that their primary objective is to 1) Do no harm to the IP and 2) Expand the value of the IP. 1) To do no harm, you want to make sure you don’t scar a brand with too much controversy (which is why so much was spent changing Sabra). You want to make sure you injecting the best quality content possible to keep the general conversation and buzz about a character going in the mainstream. So they need a Captain America movie to keep up the sales of backpacks and keep their theme parks relevant. 2) How do you expand the IP? You introduce lessor known characters and attempt to elevate them into the public conscious. The more Marvel characters that everyone knows on site, the more that their $4 Billion dollar investment keeps going up in value as an asset. And so by their internal calculations, adding $100M of cost to this film is worth it if it keeps everyone talking about Captain America as a brand and launches the Red Hulk to enhance their IP. Do they want the film to make money? Of course. Yes. However, the performance in the above two categories is primarily what they are focused on when releasing these films. For all of us fans to pretend that somehow Disney is just stupid and doesn’t understand how to make money in entertainment is kind of silly. Most importantly, Michael Roman pointed out that as fans we should care the most about if the film is good and if we like it. Pre-Endgame films barely got any scrutiny on their budgets and profitability. Well just knew that we were having fun. That’s our job in all this.
@9RealmsPublishing
@9RealmsPublishing 15 күн бұрын
@jeffreyfettes pre endgame the budgets of these films were generally below 200 mil, and they brought in double to tripld that. Winter Soldier had a budget of 170 mil, and brought in 713 mil world wide; Civil War had a budget of 250 mil and brought in 1.15 billion. Every single one of those entries were profitable on box office alone. Marvel has seen activd diminishing returns since endgame where they have dumped tons of money into projects that have performed poorly, with some notable exceptions like No Way Home, Guardians 3, or Deadpool Wolverine. But most projects have fallen flat and as a result have shown a decrease in profitability. There has been a super saturation of content between film and streaming and mosf of it has not been good. As such interest in the marvel brand is waning and these presale numbers are a result of that. Word has gone around about the extensive reshoots and lukewarm response to the Falcon and Winter Soldier show has more than likely turned people away and unless the review embargo lifts and people are blown away resulting in incredible word of mouth, this movie is nof projecting to do well. It is the fourth entry in the Captain America saga, and this is a brand that even though may no longer have Steve, is still strong and people do care about, so the fact pre sale numbers are on par with Ant man and the wasp and eternals does not bode well at all.

I get that they're trying to do the "Every Man" story, "you don't need powers to be special" kind of thing. Just not super interesting to me. I'll definitely see it...just maybe not in theaters.

“The days are gone where Marvel movies make a billion dollars”…. Is a statement that serves nobody. It’s not about timing; it’s entirely about the quality of casting, directing, editing, and delivering what audiences actually want - not what Disney decides they should want. These shortcomings are due to poor creative decisions, not a lack of audience interest. And yes, a financial loss absolutely qualifies as a 'failure.' Ultimately, profits will dictate the future of this franchise, as they were the driving force behind its creation in the first place.

I definitely agree with your take, Michael. The fact is that we are living in a different world, post pandemic. The habits of moviegoers have changed. Partly due to inflation, and also just because a lot of people got used to not going to theaters as often. Covid wasn't the only factor, as streaming trends also changed how audiences engage with media, as did rising ticket prices. It is unrealistic to expect that every MCU movie will be a billion dollar film, especially given the more uneven quality of late. As you say, tracking for a good opening weekend is still the best indicator for a headstart to profitability, but word of mouth is still where a movie truly rises or falls.
