I gotta say, as a U.S. army veteran, I ALWAYS cry when I watch this movie. When Bucky falls, when Cap crashes....I always lose it. A fellow soldier and very close friend of mine was killed overseas just six months after his first child, a son, was born. That was almost 14 years ago. My son is 16 now. So when I see Cap wake up, I cry again, for all of us who live, and for all those we leave behind. I know, it's a superhero movie, but for me it's the most relatable of them all, because even a super soldier has to face the reality of loss and sacrifice. No soldier wants war, but every soldier is there to see it finished.

The smart tactic _is_ to dive away and lie prone on the ground feet-first from an impending grenade blast. Lying down minimizes your profile relative to the grenade (most fragments will miss you) and if the soles of your boots fail to stop the fragments from penetrating, at least it's your feet that take the damage. You may not be dancing anytime soon, but you can sit up and shoot.

"Vienna," the capital of Austria is spelled and pronounced "Wien." But all 50 US States are the same and New York is New York and not "Neu York" which would be a literal translation. There are quite a few documented instances of soldiers or Marines throwing themselves on a grenade to save their friends. A similar event took place late in the Pacific war; a B-29 fired a flare as a signal. Something went wrong & the flare ended up _in the plane_ activated. It was burning magnesium or something else that would burn through metal, and the plane was full of incendiary bombs. A crewman *picked the flare up with his bare hand* and tossed it it out a window. True story. And yes, he lost his hand.

"Hercules was also scrawny before all that training". Not in actual mythology. In the Myths Hercules was always supernaturally strong. As a baby he choked a large snake that was sent into his crib to kill him, with his bare baby hands.
@helenvamboula21724 жыл бұрын
@Black Ninja yes. The difference is that in the cartoon the snakes are sent by Adis while in mythology they were sent by Zeus' wife. You know, Hercules' mother was mortal and Zeus' wife wanted to get back at her husband for sleeping with an other woman.

@HaganeNoGijutsushi4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the whole idea of "zero to hero" after all is a very modern concept, tied to the notion of the American dream, and everyone being able to succeed if they work hard. The ancient Greeks were big instead on the notion of being "kalos to agathos", beautiful and virtuous, namely, that not only you were supposed to be born good, but that good looks and moral goodness went hand in hand. Heroes were just cool from birth (due to being the children of gods, after all). Peasants ought to stay in their place. They had a bit of a different outlook than we do.

Pretty sure the Hydra regrowing it's heads was a later addition to the myth as well. It originally just had a lot of heads, then it regrew them, then it regrew them plus another head.
@lokithecat72254 жыл бұрын
@@lapelcelery42 Nope. The Lernaean Hydra was the second task of Heracles, it regrew two heads for each cut off, and it's middle head was Immortal. Heracles realized he couldn't defeat it, and asked his nephew Iolaus for help, who came up with the idea of using a firebrand (torch) to scorch the stumps after each decapitation. He used a Golden Sword (from Athena) to cut the immortal head. There is an alternate version that he cut off one head, and dipped his sword in its venom, and that burned each stump. The biggest "Cheat" is about the size, old art has it about mansized. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lucas_Cranach_d.%C3%84._-_Herkules_und_die_lern%C3%A4ische_Schlange_(Herzog_Anton_Ulrich-Museum).jpg
