Sam and Bucky are on parallel journey's in the series. By the end Sam finds his narrative catharsis in taking up the shield and fighting for what Steve made it stand for. Bucky's journey is obviously not over. He's only begun his healing. Hopefully Bucky's next appearance will continue his journey and tackle the issue of his PTSD. Bucky will likely appear in the currantly in development Captain America 4. Though I did prefer the long form character development the series allowed.

Captain America in the MCU was everything Superman should have been in the DCEU. It was also genius of the Russo brothers to have Cap’s view of America/American government be shattered after he discovers it’s been run by Hydra for decades. It helps avoid the whole American exceptionalism trope and also makes Cap a far more interesting character that operates based on his own morality and worldview, not just a tool of the government.

Superman wasn’t captain America in the DCEU because he isn’t there yet. MOS was his true first outing after years of training himself to restrain his powers. BvS showed a Superman who became overwhelmed with the mixed attention of people who didn’t know how to receive him. Some worshiped him and others hated or feared him. That stress culminated in the capture of his mother. Superman, at the end of BVS sacrifices himself to save the world from doomsday, and that sacrifice hits Batman, who is then inspired to return to being the hero he’d slowly strayed from being. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the first time we see Superman as we know him. It’s called a character arc. If WB hadn’t lost faith in Snyder because of their money boner, we would have seen that arc come to fruition in the MOS2 and JL2&3.

@@sokandueler9578 I wish Marvel would have taken their time with Captain America like WB did with Superman. We should ha e gotten 3 movies where Steve struggled to decide if he cared about bullies or not, if he wanted to get involved in the war, and ultimately sacrificing himself in the second movie, so he could come back as Nomad! Then have him dress in all black, and brutally murder people, and not care about the innocent people UNTIL...the 4th movie, then he can slowly start to transition into the Captain America from the comics. It’s genius, cause this way it only takes 10 years to give the audience the character they’ve loved for decades, and we get to see how he became a symbol of hope, after having to learn whether or not he actually cares about anyone else besides himself, and girlfriend. Also he gets raped in prison. And if you don’t think that sounds awesome, we’ll your dumb, and don’t understand how deep this is, wake up, your living in a fucking fantasy, this is exactly how Steve Rogers would be in the real world, where he clearly lives.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Captain America is more Superman than Superman himself in the DCEU. How is that possible?!?! People who defends the DCEU: Captain America in MCU already has been in 10 movies so it's a fully develop character. Superman in BvS for example shows that Superman haven't become the Superman we know and love, it's because he's still new to this hero stuff. Me: Well, Captain America's character in the first avenger already is more superman than superman.

@@escapefromreality6934 wow, just...wow. Marvel is not the end all for how to do a film series. Marvel went for a ten-year long hall. DC’s series would have been more short-term. The MCU covers 10-11 years, the DCEU would have likely covered somewhere around 3-4. Also, you WAAAAY overblow what happens to Superman and thrown in a little bit of what happens to Batman. You couldn’t give Captain America that arc because he isn’t like that. Maybe you forgot about when Superman killed Zod in the comics? Maybe you forgot about when he killed Joker for offing Lois...in the comics? Also, we see Superman kill people in the DCEU only in the possible future where Darkseid used the anti life equation, a weapon which overrides free will and turns anyone - even Superman - into a pawn of the wielder...like it does in the comics. Marvel is fun and has a good storyline, but pretending that it’s peppy or bust with superheroes is to deny the existence of hard realities that exist in comics. This is not grandpa’s golden-age Superman, this is the modern alien struggling between power and humanity. Its not trying to be deep, it’s not trying to be anything. It’s simply being it’s own story, and gatekeeping the genre is only going to lead to the harsh toxicity that ultimately brought us the Josstice League monstrosity.

His defiance does actually make him a good avatar of for the old American spirit. America, the federal government is shady as anything, but America the founding ideal, remains the impetus the world's move toward a more free and prosperous one and I'll always hold Washington and company in high regard for what they did with the power they held. People judge far to harshly against modern standards, but we stand on the intellectual shoulders of the institutions those men enabled.

The Cap that met Sam was the guy from the 1940's. He didn't just miss a lot of movies and music, he skipped the fight for Civil Rights in the 60's, the desegregation of schools and sports, the assassinations of MLK and Malcolm X. But the Cap that gave Sam the shield is one who lived through all of it. He knew the significance and importance of there being a black Captain America, and he knew completely that Sam was THE person who could carry it all.

And also, Cap would have realized the significance of Sam being the most worthy person to carry the shield after living those missing years. No one is arguing that Sam was chosen because he's black. As an Indian girl at the present date, i can say that me and all my friends look up to and favour Captain America because of how he treats women. His respect in courting Peggy, his control while talking sweetly to Sharon, his overall decorum and politeness is something that transcends time and place. Indian women would feel safer if Steve Rogers existed today.

Sam is a regular man of the modern day, in more ways than one. In a lighthearted and fun manner, that notebook scene between them established how he's in touch with recent historical events and culture. It's short, maybe easy to overlook, but it [along the rest of Winter Soldier] makes a case for why he's a good fit. Steve could never quite find his place in the 21st century, and that's the central conflict of his movies. But here's a man with Cap's values, dedication and heart, with more than a foot in the present day. Not to mention, of course, wrestling with present day issues up close and personal. Really nice to learn more about his background and struggles in this series.

I think the issue with politics is not as much about the values we all hold but more of how we believe those ideals should be achieved. Captain America I think most definitely symbolizes the values of courage, bravery, and standing up for those who cannot defend themselves ("I don't like bullies"). However, the government of any nation has had their own histories of shifting powers and different ideas on how to achieve these ideals, making for a lot of conflict. Steve is one who holds and symbolizes the foundational ideals of the people but not one to just sit by when the government decides to achieve things via unethical or less than fair means. He's also human in the end, but a pretty good one at that. That's why people respect him.

@@Arcyis except in Civil War they explicitly say that Ross gives Tony 36 hours to bring everyone in, and at the beginning of the airport showdown Tony says that was 24 hours ago. True I'm no expert on air travel but even if a private jet can't fly substantially faster than a commercial jet, at the very least it doesn't have to deal with nearly as much beuracratic type logistics in the time running up to and away from the times of it actually flying, so I can easily believe Tony flew from Berlin to NY, pick up Peter, and back to Berlin in 24 hours, hell that's more than enough time. Sure it doesn't take a lot of screen time, but it doesn't need to.

Cap has been my favorite avenger since his first film why? *INHALES* Unlike both Thor and Tony Cap is proven from the first of his films that he is above all else a good man I think one of if not my favorite quote of his is the one where he’s in the recruiting center “So....you want to go and kill some nazis eh?” *pause* “I don’t wanna kill anyone.....I don’t like bully’s no matter where there from” That line that one line is the truth, heart, and soul of what STEVE ROGERS is and therefore what Captain America is He doesn’t want to kill anyone he doesn’t believe in murder or death BUT he doesn’t like bullies the fact that he used that word not “I don’t want evil to exist” Or “I don’t like tyrants or cruel rulers...” He uses the simple,powerful, and understandable word “Bullies” That word in and of itself implies one person standing above another and belittling the man underneath him in any shape or form which is wrong This sets up the simple fact that STEVE will ALWAYS put himself between the man standing and the man that’s on the ground Why? Because that’s the right thing to do No matter who the man standing before him is no matter there reasons He will always do the RIGHT THING This is shown again in Infinity war “No we don’t trade lives...” The only logical thing to do is what vision says destroy the stone sure he dies but MILLIONS of others will be saved but Cap won’t have it NO STEVE won’t have it no matter what the intentions are or what the logic is Allowing vision to die is wrong it’s not the right thing to do I think people who simply say he’s a type one character who is just an extension of American patriotism and propaganda are just well......wrong it’s like they haven’t watched the movies at all When Steve wakes up he instantly gets thrown back into the fold of shield and avengers happens then we see in winter soldier he’s now back in the fold as he tells Peggy “I thought I could throw myself back in and make a difference do the right thing......just not sure what that is anymore” Shield is a Gov. organization he believes he’s doing the right thing by fighting with and for them but then slowly over the course of the film he realizes that shield isn’t shield it’s now HYDRA a tyrannical form of government and a power that can go unchecked and instead of joining it or even trying to persuade it what does he do? He drops all the beliefs he’s had while fighting with them and instead starts fighting AGAINST THEM to bring them down He has realized that while trying to fight bullies with shield (terroists,warlords,countries who hate America) he has now become the bully to the American people through shield and he instantly puts himself between Shield and the common citizens of the U.S and in the process finds out his Brother is still alive and could kill him BUT he still doesn’t fight back why? Because it’s not the right thing to do! I mean that whole argument of him being a “form of government propaganda and an extension of American power” is just wrong by infinity war HE IS A FUGITIVE! He literally says to the general “I’m not looking for forgiveness,and I’m way past asking for permission” He is DONE with believing the Gov is the “right thing to do” Every major action he takes in the films is dictated by that question “Is this the right thing to do?” Why does he fight Tony? Because Tony is trying to kill Bucky for something he couldn’t control and that’s wrong even though Bucky is his friend Why does cap go and save everyone from prison at the end of civil war? Because it’s the right thing to do they were wrongfully convicted for siding with him and not signing the accords Why does cap stand up with his BROKEN shield against an army and a tyrant completely by himself full and well knowing that he’s probably going to die? Because it’s the right thing to do...... And sure he does wrong things to like lie to Tony about knowing the truth And breaking into shields weapons storage to find out what there up to BUT he does those things because he weighed those risks and realized that if he didn’t do that then what would have happened? Shield might have gone on to make massive weapons of immense destruction and lost control of them And Tony would have gone ballistic and tried to kill Bucky (Which ends up happening anyway) But Steve can only hope it won’t by lying to Tony for as long as he can That’s why Cap is who he is But more importantly that’s why STEVE IS CAP Captain America is NOTHING without Steve Rogers as the doc says in the first film “This is why you were chosen, because a strong man who has known power all his life will lose respect for that power. But a weak man who knows the value of strength and knows compassion. And no matter what happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing... That you will stay who you are... Not a perfect soldier But a good man.......” It’s not about being Captain America it’s about being Steve Rogers........ Captain America isn’t this paradigm of “government propaganda and the government’s always right!” HE ISNT AMERICAN BELIEFS OR AMERICAN PHILOSOPHY.... HE IS WHAT THEY SHOULD BE Believing in doing the right thing always even if it kills you Valuing all lives even if one risks millions Being honorable and courageous even through the loss of friends and the faltering of your own beliefs..... And standing against those who would abuse there power on those who don’t have any....... THATS WHAT STEVE IS AND THEREFORE THATS WHAT CAPTAIN AMERICA IS And to me this is why he gave the shield to Sam over Bucky Sure Bucky is his best friend BUT Steve doesn’t know Bucky anymore he doesn’t know what’s happened to Bucky or if he will ever get over his past trauma from being the winter soldier that’s not a trust issue towards Bucky that’s a baggage issue Steve doesn’t wish to burden him with the responsibility of his shield as well as his own problems YET He knows Sam...NOT FALCON Sam.... he knows that Sam is above all other things a good man who will always do what’s right and be honest and true it’s not about the symbol......it’s about the man who made that symbol matter as Cap said “Take that suit off what are you?” And he does give Sam the shield Sam bears it as an honor “I’ll do my best” *Steves hands close over his* “That’s why it’s yours.......” EXHALES Sorry about that short little rant there it’s just that I love this character and you went so well into depth throughout this video about all the reasons I love him and I just wanted to prove some other points I love this show so far as it’s really contending with America it’s philosophy’s and of course Steve’s legacy which in itself is intertwined with Captain Americas legacy Another amazing video as always my friend can’t wait to see your next one!

I mean in the comics he does get the super solder serum from his grandfather (Isaiah Bradley) and becomes the next captain America (patriot) and joins the young avengers which they are setting up

@@yourboyg3o818 Technically, Captain America and Patriot are two different identities, and he's a founding member of the Young Avengers, so you couldn't really say he joined them. But that's just me being a nickpicky asshole. I can only assume that Teddy will be introduced in Secret Invasion.

I didn’t see The First Avenger until after Civil War (and Peggy Carter) so I may have had a better lens to see it through but I found it to be quite anti-propaganda and much more personal than reviews at the time had lead me to believe. I was particularly struck by the scene where Steve spent his time between shows drawing and *he was really good at it.* It never came up again but it was a nice reminder that there was a whole-ass person there before he got pumped full of drugs and gamma rays. I was thrilled that he got his happy ending. The only thing bugging me now is what happened to the falcon suits? Sam was the member of a whole team of people using the suits; while they may have been killed off the government still has the blueprints. Army of falcons when?

As an American I loved your view on the ideals of Captain America. I think many people often confuse a country and it’s ideals with its government. At least in America know many people confuse these things. The American government is not America. They are merely elected representatives and unfortunately these days more often than not they do not represent America well at all. Cap represents the ideals of America; which are the ideals of freedom, liberty and the individual value and sovereignty of each individual which are a few of America’s core values, and values that are important to all people in all the world.

After a long time I'm watching full-fat videos and I love it. A perfect way to start a day while drinking an actual tea with Full Fat Milk. Sam Wilson was carefully built my Russo brothers... The fact they paid off "on your left pay backs well" Is perfect. I wondered if could ever see someone else as Captain America, but surprisingly Sam way more relatable than Steve Rodgers.. The premise of the story is excellent, acceptance of a black captain America... Great Also I think Falcon is the first character to be un-russoed.

I enjoy how the line where the bank guy says specifically terms changed for all people who disappeared is brushed past. I like the Isiah stuff because back then there was funky stuff going on with African Americans in the military that you could realistically latch on to. I agree with you on your take of Walker, and that Cap is about values not institution. I felt the police scene in episode two was way too over the top and preachy, and I’m probably going to be annoyed by that going forwards as well.

It's still unbelievable to me that the Wilsons couldn't get that loan. I mean, whoever you are, whatever your job is, if Sam Wilson came up to you while you were working and asked you to sign off on something that could cost you your job because he needed it to help his family, is there even a 1% chance that you'd say no? You'd fuckin owe him, right? I really need my job, but I'd risk losing it for Sam. The word's erskine said to steve before he got the super solider serum were that If your good youll become "GREAT" with the super solider serum. and the words Steve rogers said to sam before giving him the shield were "Your a GOOD man sam". So we can see here if Sam wilson were to take the super solider serum it wouldn't have any negative affect on him he'd be just like Steve doing good and protecting the little guys. Thank you, I liked the John Walker as Captain America story arc in the 1980s for the fact that Walker at least learned to try to emulate Rogers' ethics and ideals, which was more than a lot of anti-hero replacements ever tried in other stories. That's not to say I didn't like Rogers' time as the Captain as he lived his modern motto, "I am loyal to nothing... except the Dream," any less during that arc, but the interplay of the characters was interesting.

Ngl i genuinely like the new cap as a character and it really annoys me that people are attacking the actor for being a bad captain america when that is the whole point of the character, he is supposed to be a sub-par cap with very few of the traits and morals that made steve a great cap and in that regard i would probably say that he is one of my favourite characters in the show and i am looking forward to seeing how his character develops. I think from that scene in the locker room the new cap means well but goes about it in a much more aggresive way than steve would have.

I know Sam getting the shield and embracing being Steve's successor is kind of inevitable and I'm good with that, but honestly I think there's a lot of good storytelling potential in this guy who isn't the successor that Cap chose but still tries to live up to the legacy

Hell yeah Brazil had Mamonas Assassinas on its version, that makes me so happy. Now if only it also had Cazuza Also I’m loving the falcon and Bucky show and that scene of them discussing is pure blinding brilliant, the way Bucky voice shakes, and Falcons line is perfect “I did what I thought was right” it’s what everyone tries to do and having him say that hit me (I’m sure they’ve had almost this exact line said other times in MCU but I just love Falcons actors delivery.) He’s quickly shooting up my list of actors I loved him as Falcon and on season 2 of Altered Carbon and I just hope we keep getting more of him
