I believe Steve's character is summed up best by his response to Dr. Erskine's question if Steve wanted to kill some Nazis, to which Steve responded, "I don't want to kill anyone. I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from." IMHO, that line alone tells us who Steve Rogers is.

This movie feels so different from the other Marvel movies, but years later I feel like I can understand the reasons for it. The original comics are from a simpler and more innocent time, so the movie is as well. But much more than that, it causes the more grounded and realistic tone of the second movie (Captain America: Winter Soldier) to hit that much harder. Bucky's fate is so dark, that it can make part of us wonder if he actually would have been better off dying in the first movie. We want his reunion with his best friend Steve, but we also don't want him to suffer.

Captain America first appeared in comics during WWII, which is why Marvel set his origin story during the war. Bucky was always his best friend. I think the reason the movie moves faster with a slimmer story is because they need to get through WW2 and get him frozen in time for Avengers. But for me who had at that point only read Captain America comics from when he was still fighting in the war and thought he was kind of a boring hero... This movie completely turned me around on him. Most of Marvel's heroes are human, there are a few exceptions, like Thor, but mostly everyone is humans who are in some way special, either gaining powers, building tech, or just really specialized training.
@ChrisTheAspergerGuy8 ай бұрын
After directing The Rocketeer 20 years prior, it's easy to see why Joe Johnston was the perfect choice to do this one. He's so brilliant at capturing the WW2 era in comic book form. I'm sorry you weren't entirely crazy about this film ( I noticed you were getting sleepy there for a while lol ), but for me, this is one of the best MCU movies ever made. By the way, speaking of The Rocketeer, I'd love to see you and Steph do a reaction to it together if you haven't seen it yet. I want to see what you two think of it. It's a very underrated classic.

I am of the firm belief that the grenade scene is one of the most heroic in the Marvel phases. It certainly was cemented for me Captain America being my favorite Avenger. He has no idea it's fake he has no idea what's going to come up this isn't for the sake of the world he saw something that was going to kill his comrades and he was willing to sacrifice himself for it. This movie is pretty far down the rankings for many but it's pretty far up the rankings for me.

That's something Stan Lee introduced to superhero comics. It's not their powers that makes them heroes, but their personal qualities. As John McLane would say, that's what makes you "that guy." Don't worry, Steve will see plenty of growth, as will Tony. BTW, the gravity repulsors Howard was demonstrating was the same technology Tony ended up using in his suit. An aside. The US used many genuine war heroes to sell war bonds; it was one way to finance the war, hence it made sense for the captain to be used that way. Fun Fact: his war bonds outfit is what Captain America originally wore in the comic, including the kite-shaped shield. Next up: The Avengers!

Seems like every reaction I watch edits out what is probably the most important line of Steve Rogers back story. When Dr. Erskine is speaking to Steve the night before the procedure, he explains why he was chosen and why ultimately Steve is the most successful "Super soilder" in history. Steve Rogers is Erskine's choice because he is "not the perfect soilder but a good man." It's the one actual thing that makes Steve Rogers special.

So here's some fun facts about Captain America. Number one he was created by a man known as Jack Kirby and Joe Simon 1941 is when he first debut on the comic cover. It's him punching hitler. In the movie they have it reversed. Actually, Bucky is actually supposed to be as young side kick. But in here they made it more like he was like his big brother. Number 2, the red skull, that is his arch. Nemesis. . Number 3 Captain America is not from Brooklyn originally. He's just from the lower East Side of Manhattan. Number 4, he is of Irish descent. His parents were Irish immigrants, and his father was a very abusive man. He gets his heart from his mother. These are things you would only understand if you read the comics the source materials. Number 5 basically, Captain America is known as the sentinel of liberty. He is also called the man out of time because he was born during World War 2 and slept for 70 years and woke up in the modern era, so he's lost a lot of time. In terms of his abilities, the supersoldier serum that is, in his bloodstream, basically is a souped-up steroid. It increases his everything, so he's basically Ten times better than any olympic athlete. Number 5, you must watch the sequels. The sequels are called Captain America. The winter soldier Vibranium You're gonna hear that word again in future movies.

Keep watching. There’s a LOT more story for Cap & Bucky in succeeding films! 😄 I agree about Ironman being a great film. I’m torn between the badboy & the all American boy as my favorite. Hulk was not the best film, I didn’t enjoy it at all even though I was a big fan of the 1970s tv show w/Lou Ferrigno & Bill Bixby. Thor was okay but I can take him or leave him. So for me it’s a tie between Ironman & Cap, with Thor coming in 2nd & Hulk a distant 3rd as of this point in the timeline. Enjoy your Marvel journey! I scrolled through your list of reaction videos (2000+?!) but I may have missed it. Have you watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy yet? Even if it’s not something you think you’d be interested in personally (a lot of people are hesitant about the series), 1.
