Recent comments from Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie seem to suggest his new version of Cap doesn't represent America. Was it just an unfortunate turn of phrase, or does it speak to a bigger problem in an already troubled movie? Either way, its ignited a firestorm that the MCU definitely doesn't need right now.

People are COMPLETELY misunderstanding what Anthony said. He meant that Captain America, despite his suit, should represent the standards of the world, not just America. This is the exact same argument for Superman all those years ago when his motto changed from "Truth, Justice and the American way," to "Truth, Justice and a better tomorrow." Ironically, Chris Evans said the same thing years ago around The First Avenger and The Avengers movie, and no one criticized him with that. This is just feeling like people are looking for another reason to hate this movie again.

Falcon is cool in the classic comics, and was portrayed well in the movies, up until being anointed as Captain America. The Winter Soldier perfectly established why Bucky was the logical successor to Steve Rogers, from their common background, lifelong friendship, to comparable fighting styles and abilities. They even got it right partnering Bucky and Sam Wilson, but messed up who was to become CaptainAmerica, and who was the partner.

The people who watched them doing their terrorist activities for about twenty years and freely voted Hamas to govern them in 2006 after Israel withdrew from Gaza. And the people who were taking Israeli Olympic athletes back in Munich 1972, and hijacking civilian airliners for just about as long. At least five different flights that Palestinians hijacked including Lufthansa Flight 181 in 1978. It’s actually quite remarkable how the Palestinian have managed to trick a lot of westerners into believing that they are gentle pacifists oppressed by Hamas and bullied by big bad Israel. It’s kinda darkly funny how they have gotten the world to call them Palestinians given that a sovereign state of Palestine has never, ever existed in the entire four thousand year history of the region. Given the facts, perhaps it’s not surprising that the new Captain America has trouble identifying the terrorist bad guys. It actually kinda fits.

[Laughs] You know, he was created at a time when there was this undeniable evil and this guy was kind of created to fight that evil. It's our own citizens who have been brainwashed to hate themselves and their country. I liked Falcon, but I can't get into Falcon playing Captain America. He's a normal human being with a wing/jet pack combination, guns and the infamous shield. He can't fist fight Thanos or Hulk like Steve could because Falcon never took the Super Soldier serum. But in this trailer we see Falcon using the shield to block a punch from red Hulk. This doesn't even make sense and shows me once again Disney have screwed up the source material and forgot that Falcon is not like the original Cap. They should have made Bucky the new Captain America. Would have been a great redemption arc.
@kj3n569
@kj3n569 7 күн бұрын
100% correct! Falcon is nothing more than a non-superpowered human with high tech gear, Batman without the training, discipline and drive. Putting him in the suit with the shield would have made him even less effective than he was as Falcon, because the wings and weapons were designed for fighting. In his hands the shield is just that; purely defensive. As you said, The Hulk punching the shield would have knocked him backwards so hard it would snap his non-superpowered neck.Vibranium or not, there is still physics.
@jamoecw
@jamoecw 7 күн бұрын
The shield is made of vibranium alloy and in old lore (no clue about modern lore) it reflects back the kenetic energy of blows, allowing even a child to block the strongest of hits. Everything else though that Cap does is partly due to the serum.

@ The serum does a lot for Rogers, and makes him well above a normal human like Falcon, but the stated scenario of tanking a Red Hulk punch is not something he can do without the shield, and anyone can do with the shield. He also fought in WW2 and was humble enough to learn from his fellow soldiers, which puts him above most people as well. Rogers is the true Captain America for several reasons.

To be fair, Captain America, wearing an American flag as his costume, is an inheritally political character. Comics have always been political. There is nothing wrong with that. Were it gets stupid is when writers attempt to force in a particular political narrative onto a character it was never intended to be put on. All the while blindly, stupidly ignoring the faults and short commings of the political narrative they have invested so much into. Being critical of his own government? That's as American as baseball and Apple Pie. Being obtusely anti-american and refusing to apply different perspectives and nuance? That's foolish and the ambrosia of whinny privilaged elites who's advocation of someone comes off more like their own personal pass time and hobby rather than a sincere belife and value. Captain America: Civil War is a great example of politics in an action packed thriller. It presented both sides and the needed nuance. Brave New World is looking like it was written by an AI program trained exclusively on Blue Sky. It's probably going to suck hard.

So yeah, EVERYTHING is political here. But do you know where politics is outlawed? You don't have to worry about politics in North Korea, Russia, and China. I think Mackie is trying to thread the needle with Trump in office. Hard to drive a pro America message when America the brand is about to get hammered. Gulf of America anyone... Rogers in the films had a solid character arc of being All American to realizing the deep state is a thing, fighting against it - but he kept his values, an idealized version of America on his terms. To have Winter Soldier effectively take on that arc with his own redemption, and maybe going through his own arc, even with similarities. It's too bad we won't get that. I like Mackie a lot as an actor.

Their actor choice for Captain America kinda sucks, Cap was so prestigious and selfless in the films to be replaced by someone like the Falcon, wish it would of been a character who completely fits the picture of Patriotism and love for America, like Iron Man or even his Buddy Rhodes who was actually an American soldier and fought to protect his country, just makes a lot more sense to me.

It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable.” Chris Evans- “Ha, well, to me, I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn't a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. I've said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good. [Laughs] You know, he was created at a time when there was this undeniable evil and this guy was kind of created to fight that evil. I think that everyone could agree that Nazis were bad and he, Cap, just so happens to wear the red, white and blue.” Captain America FROM A COMIC- “Listen to me, all of you out there! You were told by this man, your hero, that America is the greatest country in the world! He told you that Americans were the greatest people, that America could be refined like silver, could have the impurities hammered out of it and shine more brightly. He went on about how precious American was, how you needed to make sure it remained great. And he told you anything was justified to preserve that pearl of the great price that is America! Well I say American is nothing! Without its ideals, its commitment to the freedom of all men, America is a piece of trash! A nation is nothing! A flag is a piece of cloth! I fought Adolph Hitler not because America was great, because it was fragile! I k new that liberty could be easily snuffed out here as in Nazi Germany! As a people we were no different than them! What a terribly convenient way for any racist to carry out such abuse and then get away with it free of reprimand, by socially excluding the victim from the conversation after the fact, citing their wealth as if that means they have no right to speak of the abuse, or that the abuse doesn’t matter at all. Sneaky and despicable behaviour wouldn’t you agree? You’d think that would work on everyone, but you’ll be very pleased to know that humanity as a whole is well aware of the stupidity of that tactic. As an Englishman, I was never too bothered about Captain America. But Chris Evan's version of the character made me a huge fan. Because he wasn't just about America. He was about everyone. He had values and morals that made me fell like he was an inspiring hero, someone who would have your back no matter who you were or what you were up against. He didn't have all the answers, but he was trying. He never belittled someone, he would try to talk to them and work through things with them, even if he had no clue how to and would say as much. And this was portrayed through his actions, through the characters words. There's a reason everyone lost their minds when Cap wielded Mjiolnir in Endgame. Would anyone do that for captain falcon? Falcon I liked as Falcon, but in FAWS, he was insufferable, condescending and not helpful in any way. Mackie once said something like people dont care about the actors anymore, they only see the characters. when actors come out with stuff like this, is it any wonder?

I think his point about people not caring about the actors is about how people don't focus on their acting abilities or their choice in movies they act in. When Perlmutter was still Feige's boss, there was strong fiscal discipline on the films and Perlmutter was focussed on getting the biggest audiences to turn the biggest profits, which kept the activists at bay. Also Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter and the Netflix shows were successful weekly adverts for MCU movies. Now it's all gone to crap.

@@DomH75infinity war and endgame were really good, along with the Netflix daredevil and punisher shows. Those are actually worth watching, because it was made before Disney went full blown woke. I understand if you’re burnt out of watching superhero media but those are genuinely good shows if you’re ever looking to scratch a Marvel itch.

That’s why Trump had such an overwhelming majority vote him back in. Trump is the people’s “Captain America “ because he actually loves America and her people and is a true champion in the fight for good over evil in the pursuit of freedom. The pendulum swung far to the left and socialism under Biden Harris, Clinton, Obama. Now Trump will bring it back to the centre and rid the system of the corruption that has plagued America for so long. He’s off to a great start and the left can’t stand it. He is the true hero of our time! 👍

He’s also a character who has faced internal struggle when his government wasn’t living up to his country’s ideals. Trump’s victory was far from a landslide. Certainly not a mandate. 2 weeks in and plenty of his voters already have buyers remorse. The Fandom Menace has more fans left of center than I think you realize. Not crossing the line into overt political commentary was a feature, not a bug. A popular sentiment in the States right now. FAFO.

The thing about that is both Winter Soldier and Falcon have been Captain America. They just skipped Bucky Barnes being Captain America because in a lot of the animated stuff they made for Captain America they pushed Falcon to the forefront. Then with the Falcon and the Winter Soldier they decided to make clear Falcon would be the next Capt. America but it's clear he tripped up quite badly. Like, he didn't need to give a super patriotic speech about the character but he at least needed to acknowledge the America part of the character in a wholly different wat. You know... He's a guy who doesn't give up, protects people the best that he can, and remembers to always return as safely as possible unless he truly must make a tremendous sacrifice.

Anthony Mackie- “Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term, you know, ‘America’ should be one of those representations. It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity, and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable.” Chris Evans- “Ha, well, to me, I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn't a flag waving movie. When I returned, I saw that you nearly did turn America into nothing!”

The thing about Captain America is that he's supposed to represent the best of us. Each of Cap's virtues are meant to inspire Americans to be the best we can be. Unfortunately, that's not always the case
@jimjones308

Yes, but Mackie isn't talking to Americans. He's talking to Italians, who, the last time I checked, are not Americans. Hence his attempt to broaden Cap's appeal. If he was giving this talk in Topeka I could almost see why there would be some outrage. But he's abroad, trying to drum up foreign interest.

Yes but 99% of those virtues are beyound border. Captain America is an avenger. He's not under the US government and if a world threatening event happens in another country, he'll go there to help. But Bucky should have been Captain America. Harrison Ford SHOULD not be hired for Nerd movies. He dislike them and he doesn't even try.
