I heard about the Captain back in 1970 hi school electronic music class. Mr. Dobbs was the teacher. The Captains name was spoken by those in the know with reverence..but they were rich kids, so I didnt listen. Now that get...time to re- visit.

Something I forgot: there's a lyric about "diamonds and lice" here, which is also a phrase from the song "Ripple" by The Church (an Australian... how do you even classify them... i guess, college rock? goth adjacent? it's not even that they're particularly weird, but their style seems to overlap between several broadly similar genres of 80s 'alternative' music)... did The Church reference a Cpt. Beefheart lyric? they seem way more down-to-earth than that musically/artistically - more R.E.M. than Radiohead or Wire, I guess you could say - or are they both references to some book or poem or smt antedating both of them? or is it just a weird coincidence? there's even an "ice/lice" rhyme with both of them
