April, 1789: In perhaps the single most famous mutiny in Naval history, the men of the HMS Bounty seized control and left Captain William Bligh and 18 loyal crew members adrift in a 23-foot launch with about a week's worth of food, a single quadrant and compass, and no charts whatsoever.
What happened next is one of the most extraordinary stories of survival, courage, cartographic memory, and an almost unbelievable feat of navigation driven by absolute, blinding rage.
Annetta Black ~ Captain Bligh’s 3,600 Mile Revenge
Odd Salon MUTINY: Tales of riots and rebellions, rank insubordination, and righteous uprisings against corrupt authority

How dare you call Bligh a jerk? Ridiculous. Look at yourself.

Captain Bligh, though an amazing sailor and survival master beyond all, was, in my opinion, likely to be a jerk. He also had the balls to take it when some one called him a jerk...as long as they continued doing their job while they respectfully requested the attention of the captain and respectfully offered an opinion.

@@trimbaker1893 I doubt that Bligh would welcome a member of his crew calling him a jerk, balls or no balls. As for seeking his attention, they are not on his ship for that purpose. I think you need to read a little more about the old days of sailing. Britain, Spain, Portugal etc.

@@Kotikjeff I too, doubt Captain Bligh would welcome any disrespect. I gather it would not be met with anything less than a beating. My point was more that Captain Bligh did not require anyone to protect him from comment then, or now. An amazing Captain and his ability to navigate such a small boat and command such strained men to a port over three thousand miles away, proof of his strength of character weather he was likeable or not. I found this ladies presentation to be informative and entertaining and not disrespectful of Captain Bligh, who likely, earned quite a wide variety of comments from those have studied what others wrote of his history. Thank you for your suggestions. I will chose some books on this interesting Captain for reading this winter.

@@trimbaker1893 That’s good. The Bounty was built just a few miles from where I was born.

@@Kotikjeff Back in 1982 I learned much of what I now know as a carpenter, as I built my 20' lapstrake semi-dory, under the instruction of an old boatbuilder named Chazel Cockfield. I fished nets from that skiff for the many years that followed. I can not fully imagine crossing open ocean in such a small boat but I do have many memories of trusting that boat and Chazels design, to bring me out the inlet and home again. Chazel said it would shake the salt out of a biscuit without breaking a crumb. He also said I reminded him of a lost ox the way I wandered about. I called my boat Lost Ox. My friend and mentor died years ago but I carry the talent he took time to teach me. I hope you have a friend like that in your life too. Smiling, George.
