I had a very strong memory of being lost in the grocery store and seeing my mom's younger sister at the beginning of an isle, I cried and ran into her waiting arms. As a kid/teen/adult I harbored resentment towards her as SHE LOST ME IN THE FRIGGIN STORE. I asked her about it 2 years before she passed way too young. She laughed and told me she remembered this event and in fact it was the Piggy Wiggly up the road from our house and I (as I did many times) had ran away naked and she had come and found me. I forgave her and apologized for thinking the worst of her for 30+ years. A year after she died, I realized she was at fault because who let's a 2 year naked child out of their sight?

I fell through 3 times, lost a boot, had the presence of mind to lose my heavy winter coat and crawled over 100 yards to shore where I fell through the 3rd time. I could see our camp the entire time and knew my Mom was right there. I cannot imagine what those men went through because I was scared beyond words at my ordeal.

The lifeboat used by Shackleton and his men to sail to South Georgia still exists and is on display at Dulwich College in London. Why there? Shackleton went there at age 13 until he was 16, then became a Royal Navy cadet.

His ship Endurance was just found. Everyone should go see the footage of the ship because it looks just like the day it sunk.

This video came out just in time! I'm writing a story about exploring the Arctic based on an Irish legend. Such a coincidence 😅😉

The documentary Endurance is one if the best ever. Shows a lot of the footage they took and cites survivors' testimony for much of the story. I highly recommend watching "Endurance".

Wow ! When you say BADASS, you mean BADASS........ Ernest Shackleton was an incredible man. All of those hardships may have weakened him in the long run unfortunately. Who knows what incredible exploits he would have given us if he had lived on.?.?

Shackelton did not just have a 'stiff upper lip', he had a frozen jaw! I read about him recently, very impressed.

I was amazed by this man's feat. He died 6 years after he returned (not after "years".. but 18 months). Felt a pang of sorrow for the man.. until I found out, he was preparing for a next voyage to the Antarctic. Once you tried and failed a trip to a remote area.. and you have to be rescued.. you lose all privileges of venturing into harms way again. But that's just me. ;)

He made a solemn vow to his men that he would return. He kept his word. Through some of the most perilous odds imaginable, he kept his word.

Just wanted to leave a comment to say thanks for the awesome content. I absolutely love history and could watch & be completely interested in most bland historical documentaries but I look forward to your uploads every week. Not only is the content really good but the way you present the information hooks me in. Plus, I'm a huge sucker for a sense of humor :)
