Awesome. Brought back so fond memories of my 5 yrs in anchorage. Dad at 68 and I did 2 (a fall and then a spring) drop hunts for brown bear on the Alaska peninsula In aniakchak river basin. Big country. We took a 1 man raft and ferried back and forth with rope for the large aniakchak river. I’ll never forget getting across it the first time in pursuit of a 10’ class bear I spotted. Once across, my dad broke down and cried about his hunting partner (my 2nd dad I always said) making a mistake and paralyzing himself jumping in a pool at a party. He was upset and just so sad he couldn’t be with us for the hunt of a lifetime. We both cried and wished he was with us. We didn’t catch up to the bear by dark so pitched our 2 man spike tent at the base of the mtn he was on. Made the mistake of packing light and no sleeping bags and slept (or tried to sleep anyway) in those silver space bags. Good lord it was a Miserable night. My dad was wore out and we knew we had to conquer that big river again, so we hiked back to our base camp. Those trips are still the highlight of both of our hunting careers and I wish I could do again but instead just archery elk hunt with him now at the age of 87. This fall will most likely be our final elk/wolf hunt together in Montana. I pray he makes it and can still do it ONE MORE TIME. If you’re reading this as a subscriber, are young and love to hunt, fish and adventure…..I recommend moving up there and living the best part of your life up in the greatest place to do what we love. Congrats on the bull. I never did any moose hunting up there because I always hunted and fished solo and never thought I was a big enough and tough enough man to get one out, but did draw a dall sheep and took one solo hunting hiking way back in the chugach from eagle river. Rewarding but I’d never do that alone again either. Black bear out of a scanoe/4hp was my go to down on cooper lake in the kenai. I loved that place. Bears everywhere including brown bears and no one else hunting, camping or even fishing. Recommend that place too for an affordable hunt you can drive to and a 2 man raft would work great there. Every single trip there, I’d easily spot 8-10 bears on the opposite side of the lake you park at. I just pray heaven is as beautiful as Alaska and my favorite place close to home in Montana. 🙏

Getting into the hunting field is super intimidating. I highly recommend taking a hunter education class from your state/province's fish and wildlife management agency.
