The Master was created for the 3rd Doctor in the classic series to be The Doctor's "Moriarty" from Sherlock Holmes! His real Arch Enemy. He was one of the big bads of the Classic series! This was an EPIC return! When the Yana is about to open the watch, he Hears Voices of Past Masters from the Classic Series.

It was so jarring to see the Doctor scared, when Martha was telling him about the fob watch and he was realising who it could be.
@mixofreak7 ай бұрын
I think at that point, he really thought it could be any Time Lord, and considering what happened in the Time War, that was dangerous enough if one tried to start it up again, or to try to change the outcome... but at seeing the evidence, and thinking back on what Yana had said... any fear of any other Time Lord being there was replaced with greater fear or knowing who it had to be. You can hear his despiration at trying to convince him that things didn't have to be as they were, considering they were the last Time Lords, but he knew he couldn't convince him that quickly, if ever. Just brilliant writing and acting all around.

Just so you know, What has happened with Jack since we last saw him is covered in the show 'Torchwood' which is a spinoff of Doctor Who. You should probably watch it as the last episode of season 1 happens directly before the first scene of this episode.
@thewerewolff72487 ай бұрын
I mean… not really. They don’t actually explain in Torchwood season 1 how he’s in modern day and only give a vague explanation for why he’s immortal. It’s this episode they explain both in specifics and detail.

Travis is nearly at the end of season 7 now on his Patreon. And all the shows done over there are paid for by people, I pay for Doctor Who myself but I don't care for Torchwood. I hope someone will pay for it one day though.

One of the best climaxes/cliffhangers in Who history. And one of the best-ever guest stars in award-winning actor Derek Jacobi. Loved the way he looked (grey/white hair & costume) & acted (sometimes kind, sometimes cranky) like a version of the first Doctor William Hartnell from back in 1963.

Spoilers! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Such a wonderful twist when I first saw it, barely having seen any of the original run, but knowing that the Time War had supposedly wiped out all the other Time Lords. There was a moment where it seemed like such a heartwarming possibility that The Doctor had finally found another of his kind... AND THEN THE WHISPERS. 'Recieve my majesty' was an immediately red flag, and I realized that not all Time Lords could be like The Doctor. I had absolutely no idea just what I was getting into with The Master, but just like everyone has 'my Doctor', this episode introduced 'my Master', and such a wild ride this episode and the next few would be. An absolutely brilliant run of writing and acting, bringing back an old foe in a way that new fans would realize was dangerous, and old fans wouldn't guess early enough to spoil themselves, but what a reveal it would be for old and new fans!

The master is a big BIG deal in the show, 2nd only to the daleks (maybe level with the cybermen)... he was created in early 70s as an evil opposite to the doctor.....a time lord just as smart to fight with..... he's been in countless episodes of dr who including the very last one before it stopped before returning a decade or so later....
