General grievous didn't have much screen time but became badass just because he was known as a Jedi killer.... And he is a coughing robot and he used 4 lightsabers..... When Phasma was first announced, I thought immediately: "Jedi Killer." Why not? Tall, intimidating with new armor, a specialized looking blaster, and a cape. Plus being played by Brienne of fucking Tarth herself, I seriously thought that was her role. Someone to hunt our heroes relentless until she was finally put down. As such, I was more than disappointed with how she was depicted, or rather lack of. She was a character with great potential spoiled by politics and lousy writing. Hell, T8TR effectively took her place in that regard... fools.

As Captain Phasma had such a small role in TFA they should've kept Phasma's appearance until The Last Jedi and only mentioned her in The Force Awakens. That would've stirred up speculation about who Captain Phasma was and it would be something extra for fans to look forward to in episode 8. Have to say though, the Phasma comic is very good and shows her as a badass. A must read. Also i haven't read the Phasma book but I heard that is also very good.

The extended, un-cut, scene of Phasma vs Finn in TLJ gives both of them much needed screen time and a better sense of closure for her character. It might be a minor role, but Phasma has impact which I think is great in the movies.

Phasma has one of my favourite character designs of the series, and what we saw in the movie doesn't exactly turn me off at all. It's simply the amount we saw. I won't lie, I genuinely thought she was going to set off the alarm when she was lowering the shields, but I can overlook that. I think every other of her 91 seconds of screen time was great, I really can't wait to see what they do with her now, knowing that fans love the character. Between Kylo Ren and Phasma, I think the sequel trilogy has some great antagonists going for it.

Phasma lowered the shields, because she doesn't really care about the First Order. She cares only about herself and her own survival. The first Order is only a means of moving up in the world for her.

Captain Phasma achieved the same feat Darth Vader achieved 38 years earlier, which is a limited role but markedly amazing toy shelf appeal. Darth Vader is the most profitable Star Wars character ever, despite having a limited role in A New Hope. Captain Phasma is the most profitable The Force Awakens character despite having a limited role in the film.

After reading the Phasma book, she’s one of my favorite characters. I liken her to Boba Fett in being gravely underused, and possibly even killed off far too soon and weakly. Let’s just hope they bring her back in a more prominent role in 9. Also I find it so much more interesting that she would lower the shields based on the fact she’ll do anything to survive, she’s a scheming power hungry survivalist, and that just adds to her character that she lowered the shields of star killer base killing hundreds of thousands of their own troops, simply because she was only interested in her life.

Concept Artists are the best :) without that one man she would never have existed. But still, considering how sudden her concept became, I can understand why her role in the movie was so minor- but I am a great fan of the character, at least from her books. WASTED character that was virtually a diversity hire. What they should have done: Had her be something of a boss to Finn. When Finn picks up the lightsaber, she's the one who fights him and then she kicks his ass. Then they meet again at that star killer base, and she kicks his ass again. Then in the last Jedi, Finn wins (you see him train, then struggle, then finally rise over his superior). This way Phasma is established as a bad ass, a strong fighter instead of this weak rat that would sell out her own army to save her skin; plus it gives Finn a strong arc of growth of how he overcomes this strong bad ass. The Phasma Vs Finn encounters we got in the movie feel kind of weak. Like Finn gets a lucky shot or two against a fighter that's vastly more experienced/stronger than him, but Finn wins anyway with his lucky shots. You can always date an Apple product solely by its appearance, and when you realize what they’re using at 0:24 and that the movies didn’t actually come out until 2015/2017 then it really puts some of this equipment in perspective... ...I genuinely wonder now if they upgrade mid-production or if they continue to use the same equipment from pre production on day 1 (assuming it doesn’t crash or burnout) through post production? How would you feel going to work at Skywalker Ranch and booting up your mid 2000 era PowerBook G4 when it’s just about 2015 and even the most budget oriented laptop DJ’s have not only moved on to MacBook’s but 64 bit multicore Intel based Retina MacBooks?
