Good memories. As a kid I must have played this at least 100 times. Awesome nostalgia.

Oh, the memories...I remember being so impressed by the 2d animation. Has a similar style to other popular cartoons from the day like Visionaries, Bionic 6, and the intro to Thundercats. Fun fact, "Tank" here is a friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger and had roles in many of his movies including Thorgrim in Conan the Barbarian. He was also Tigris of Gaul in Gladiator.
@EternalRoman2 жыл бұрын
No wonder he was so familiar to me. I never could imagine Thorgrim without a long wig and a beard, but that face was always so familiar in this show LOL. Also, the animation was American funded 80s Anime, the same used as you said in the shows you mentioned, including the pilot of the TMNTs.

In many ways, these animated expansions on the series have held up better than the original show, the limitations of CGI during the late 80s is pretty blatant, but the old hand-drawn animation of these VHS tapes continues to tower above what passes for animation today.

I still pull out my video tapes and play this even today, 40 years later, not to mention the DVD versions I found that still work with the ships, which save wear and tear on the tapes. If you find some of the tapes, make sure you use an SD television - then the refresh rate will be right to work with the toys. In theory, newer displays could be used too, but you have to be able to set the refresh rate correctly. I've seen some tutorials on how to do this with certain monitors but never done it myself. One other thing - the official DVD release of the TV show does NOT have working battle sequences, at least not the version I have. But it has some great interviews with the cast and crew!

Man does this bring back great memories. There was a flashing round red light you would slick on the television and it made a weird rainbow on the screen when the TV was shut off. So my mom threw it away. I was devastated haha. There were laser tag belts you could wear, I had the black enemy ship and my brother had the white one. I must have been 6/8 years old. That was such a fun time.

This is very impressive considering this is 2D animation, meaning that the Japanese and/or the Korean animators had to draw by hand each frame of buildings, machines, perspective changes, this seems to be a considerable work. Congratulations and hats off to them ^_^

It was done by Artmic and AIC. They also did some big name anime like (AIC) Tenchi Muyo, Battle Athletes, El-Hazard, and (Artmic) Gall Force, Mospeda, Bubblegum Crisis, and Megazone 23. Which makes all the technical detail and post-apoc look to things make a lot of sense, since Power's future isn't that different from Bubblegum Crisis, just with Bio-Dreads instead of Boomers...

That's what I thought when I saw the animation and being a long-time anime fan today, that makes me wonder what anime studio did the animation? I snoop around on Google and ended up on Facebook and found some interesting but shocking information and answer to that. It turns out 2 very well-known anime studio of the 80's did the animation for Captain Power's animation for this video. AIC & Artmic. AIC is the studio responsible for Tenchi Muyo! series, Bubblegum Crisis OVA series, Blue Gender, & Oreimo. Artmic is the anime studio responsible for Genesis Climber Mosapeada (the third anime used for Robotech), Casshan: Robot Hunter OVA, Megazone 23. With further information, I found out several high-profile anime animators lend their talent for this one and they were uncredited. You got Masami Obari (he was the mecha designer and character designer for several anime titles like Dangaioh , Obari directed several anime like Gravion and Gravion Zwei). Shinji Aramaki (yes that Aramaki) also was involved in this one too,!!! He was the mechanical design guy for this one and uncredited too. So this is an anime fan/western otaku wet dream. This is kinda like finding out that Hayao Miyazaki and the people of Studio Ghibli worked on Little Nemo (pre-production, not the final film). So the company that created Captain Power video got some very well-known anime studio for doing the animation and got some high-profile animators (well when this was made, anime was still niche and unknown in the US at that time) involved in this. This is amazing from a anime fan POV if they saw this today and found out that high-profile anime studio worked on this, and had Shinji Aramaki involved with Captain Power's mech design.

You needed to own the Powerjet, Shadow Striker or Interlocker toys. They usually came along with one of these videos, but you could play during the weekly tv episodes or pvp with the toys as well, which is what all the flashing colors are for. You use the toys as a gun to shoot flashing red targets and 'dodge' the green/yellow targets. Every time they say "check your power points" you would hit a button on the back which would play a number of tones which were your hp. Get hit = lose 1 hp. Lose all hp = the toy plays a loud noise and vibrates, ejects the action figure you had as a pilot and shuts down.

I think the TV shows got much better. it’s because the real people TV show Was more for adults they know how to go or blood of all their more adult rated was more serious and the way they trying to make kids use the toy to shoot to the screen was not too good. I think the animation to have more time for the kid interact with the toys, it was in animation format great with new technologies we have today kept power and the soldiers of the future written back to streaming or TV series. I think I streaming great with an app game you can interact using your phone or your tablet or some toys that’s gonna be very cool.
